Amber, what a beautiful photo of Sara! You have come to the right place to talk about her, about your long – and too short – life together. All of us had our hearts broken because we loved deeply. And to learn that broken hearts can heal and love again. But one day at a time. I would love to hear more about her – she looks like she was a lively pack of energy. She’s with you still, right there in your heart. Sending good wishes!

Kimberly, what a beautiful tiger indeed, intense eyes! Best wishes to you in your grief. May you meet with understanding and comfort at this time, and I am so glad you came here. You are among people who know your pain and who will listen.

Brony and Maureen, I love this, you making a pact because Lulu and Romeo would have wanted you to be happy and go on living good lives. They are safe and sound in your hearts and they are waiting for you to be able to feel that. Love to you both!

It is.My mama cat was about 15 years old,and visually impaired, she was becoming sick. She accidentally got out of my house, and nobody noticed.Hours later,a woman knocked on my door with the collar of my mama cat.She was struck by a vehicle and died immediately. My Chihuahua,Princess had surgery months prior to remove a soft tissue cancerous growth on her belly, and more on her backside. The vet gave her 50/50 chance of living. But one evening,as I walked her,we came back to the house, and her front legs went limp.I picked her up and put her on her blanket in my room. She sat up,took a few breaths and she was gone. Her tongue started turning blue, and she was gone.
            I still miss both.
            And thank you

Dianne, so sorry for your losses 😞. Losing one is hard enough, but to lose two so close together has to be devastating. Peace be with you.

Martha, I am so sorry for your loss of Raina. 😞 I know how difficult it was to go through that first year without her and today had to be hard. I and others here are going through it now and it is hard. I wish you and your new pup Mae a wonderfully long and happy life together. Hugs 🫂

Karen, thank you for introducing us to Tabby. I’m smiling with this picture. Is she doing okay now since Sweetness passed? I think non- human animals know and accept life cycles better than humans do. They know everything has a season and cycle, do you think? But I am sure Tabby misses and mourns Sweetness, too, and it is so good for you both that you have each other. Please keep us posted. Toni

Is this Tiger? What an adorable picture, Kimberly. I am terribly sad and sorry for your loss and ask if you will tell us more about Tiger – how you met, how long you were together, and about Tiger’s life with you. Having recently said goodbye to another of my babies, I understand the battle between joy for the life we shared, and the deep, deep pain of parting. We’re here for you, Kimberly, with sympathy and understanding.

Martha, yep. The anniversaries and holidays are specific dates that bring on big memories. Especially the first year of our saying goodbye. With your sadness, can you find some joy? You don’t have to, but I hope you can include some of the wonderful parts of your time with Raina. She rreally was such a sweetie and joy. I hope you can allow yourself to treasure that, too. Here’s a really big {HUG} for you.

Toni, thank you for your response and your guidance. I do remember happy things about Romeo each and every day. I have no problem doing that. However, I am having difficulty with remembering the things we did together without crying. His absence from my home is the hardest and I cannot walk anywhere in my community because he isn’t with me anymore. Everywhere and everything reminds me that he is gone. I dont want to be here anymore because of those constant reminders, but, I just cant pick up and move. Besides, I dont think I could move out of my home and leave Romeo’s energy behind.
My whole existence revolved around him and it is just too painful to face those memories. I understand what you’re saying about feelings being addictive and I might be addicted to feeling sad right now because it makes me feel loyal to Romeo’s memory. I know it’s not good to stay in the past with those last moments of Romeo’s life, but, I am trying to come to terms with that.
I know time will help. But, it’s just not now.
I thank you and everyone here for your caring comments. I really, really do appreciate them.
                          Maureen

My cat Tabby ..she is going to be 3 in July.. she is always there for me and she also played with Sweetness. They were close. She an energetic cat.

                                    • She does look for Sweetness.. it took her 5 months to get back to her self again. She’s a happy healthy cat. She sleeps with me, and she’s very vocal . She does play with her nephew to a certain extent. I will post a pick of Fluffy. He has part coon in him. He had a hard time with Sweetness passed away and Smokey too.. Smokey was my boyfriends cat. He passed away 2 weeks after Sweetness passed away. ..
I feel like Sweetness is still around.. Tabby looks at the ceiling like she can see Sweetness spirit and Smokey too.

Maureen, Powerful chemicals are stimulated with our emotions – think of the “fight or flight” syndrome where our bodies secrete tons of adrenaline – similarly, we are awash with chemicals and hormones when elated, in love, or in grief. Tests show a difference in the chemicals found in tears of joy vs. tears of grief. They are powerful, and can be mitigated with deliberate choices to bring forth happy and good memories – “choose joy” – to create more “happy” hormones. And, it can be sort of addicitive bacause your body iliterally has those chemicals in it. An exercise you can try is my “ruler” – think of your time with Romeo in inches with each year = 1 inch. You and Romeo shared 14 years (inches) of joy, fun and love, and just a fraction at the end was bad. Now, each day spend time in one of the first 13 inches. Allow yourself to be happy, at least for awhile each day, throughout the day. Romeo would tell you that, don’t you think? That way you are not forgetting him, but are honoring his life with you. You will never forget him, so please don’t let that stand in your way of remembering him with joy. You see you are not alone and that our caring community is sharing your grief and theirs, and I hope some helpful ideas to help you heal guilt-free, knowing that being happy for the life you and Romeo shared is a tribute, and not “forgetting”. Quite the opposite. I’m sending you a {BIG HUG} and looking forward to hearing more from you. Your words of support to others is so very kind, and appreciated by all. Hopefully you find some comfort in sharing your understanding with others. Toni

A year ago today I lost my sweet girl. It has been a difficult year. I got a new puppy Mae. She sometimes does things that Raina would do. Today is really difficult though.

                                            • Thank you, I cried as wrote the post. Also cried last night. There are times Mae triggers memories, because she will do something that Raina would do, it’s getting better but sometimes it still makes me cry. Mae will try to comfort me having no idea that something she did was the trigger for a memory.
                                              • Maureen, how are you today? My thoughts are with you. Besides we have a pack together….chin up.
                                                • Brony, hello! So far today, I’m okay. Yesterday, I had difficult times throughout the day. Thank you for thinking about me and I hope you are doing okay too. Yes, we have a pact and I am trying and I know you are too. I am having a very difficult time, but, I know time is what I need. Sending hugs 🫂
                                                  • Maureen and Brony: I think it is Brilliant that you have ‘partnered’ to support each other as we journey forth. I hope others here in our Community find a partner, or feel that we are ALL partnered. Brilliant!
                                                    • And I’m sending hugs right back. I’m glad today is over, it’s been a rough one for me too. When I sat at the table and looked out the window by the bush was a black and white cat. Well I thought there was a cat it was just lights playing tricks on my brain. When my friend came over she told me thàts where Lulu was buried. I never knew where she was, I didn’t want to know. Lulu was telling me it’s okay a black and white cat needs a home..I’m ok with it. I want you to be happy..I love you Lulu and I’ll never replace you. Ever……Maureen there is a higher power out there. Brony
                                                      • Hi Brony, I haven’t been on much and just now seeing your post. I hope you are doing better today. Maybe you did see your Lulu that day and maybe that was a sign from her. I don’t believe in coincidences. Everything happens for a reason. If you feel that Lulu would want you to give another kitty a safe and loving home, then you should take all the love in your heart and honor her by doing that. I am not ever going to do that, but, I support everyone who does. Today, so far, I only cried once. I know I will have some more episodes today, but, I know I am now in the “waves of grief” part of grief. It will be 6 months next week and I can’t believe it.
                                                        Hugs to you, Brony 🫂
                                                        • Oh Maureen it makes my heart hurt. I wish you lived nextdoor so I could run and give you a hug. I don’t believe in coincidences either. Everything happens for a reason. There is a reason you met me. I’m not sure what that is but I was blessed in meeting you. Keep your chin up and know I’m always thinking of you. May you get plenty of hugs. Pretend they are from me.. Brony (I see a kitty outside, in the morning it’s there and goes to bed at dark. Watching over me. That’s the only explanation I could find)
