Kaylanee appears to be back to her normal self. The antibiotic, thankfully did its job and cleared up the UTI. Thankfully we had the last antibiotic last night and the probiotic appears to have helped also as her BM’s are back to normal. We’ll be going to the vet tomorrow for a recheck, which hopefully will be quick and good news. Kaylanee isn’t a lap cat but she loves coming under the covers, when I’m at night and cuddling as close to me as she’s able. I’m loving that. This is her new favorite spot to sit , the bathroom window. She’s my window and shoulder girl. Hope all is well with everyone. Holding all in prayer.

    • What a relief to hear, Suzanne. Thank goodness Kaylanee is well now, and she should be in the clear🙌Let us know what the doctor says. And thank you for your good wishes for all😘
      • Happy to hear that Kaylanee is on the mend. 😃

        Update on Kaylanee:
After spending about 6 hours at the Veterinary urgent care, on Saturday, as I suspected, she was diagnosed with a UTI. The vet was surprised as her preliminary thought was it was most likely a bladder infection, since UTIs in female cats are rare. When urine viewed under microscope, blood was noted and the bacteria was rod shaped, making it more challenging to treat. We came home with 3 different meds, including an antibiotic, a probiotic, and hydro care. She has so many meds now, temporarily, that I had to set up an am/pm med bar, so I don’t give the meds at the wrong time and it also saves me time when I get home late at night or rushing around before work in the morning. The good news is she seems to be doing much better after two days of antibiotics, using the litter box PRN and peeing vs., jumping in/out upward of 18x in 4 hours on Sunday and spending extensive periods of time in their, prior to vet visit, and not peeing. I continue to have her isolated from Takoda and Oreo, which I hate doing but it’s the only way I’m able to monitor her litter box use. The bad news is the antibiotic is creating havoc on her intestines and she’s having “mud” piles. Thankfully, the antibiotic is temporary. This is a picture of her this morning sitting in one of her favorite places, watching cat tv. Since coming home from the vet Saturday night she’s also been spending lot of time snuggling up close to me under the blankets while we sleep. She has a sweater on because she’s light weight and I don’t want her to be cold, as the temperature in my house is rather chilly right now. Thanks for all the prayers for Kaylanee. I continue to hold all of you in prayer.

Please pray for Kaylanee. We’re at Urgent care now, 4:00 appointment. Since Thursday that I’m aware of she’s been in/out of litter box but only peeing small amounts if at all. Today in a 4 hour window she was in/out at least 18 times that I noticed and sitting in there for 2-5 minutes each time. She’s pooping normally so thinking maybe UTI or kidney or bladder issue. Will update when I’m able. Praying for all who are grieving and/or facing health challenges with their beloved pets.

Today would have been my Freyja’s one year gotcha day. Sadly I lost her to an aggressive form of cancer 2 months and 5 days later on December 17. My dear sweet big girl, while you were only with me less than 3 months, you are still deeply loved and missed. I pray that you are enjoying your special day in heaven and that you are enjoying being reunited with your previous human before me. I also hope that when it’s my turn to cross the Rainbow Bridge, even though we knew each other a short time, that you will be waiting to welcome me with all my other beloved kitties.
On a more positive note Takoda, Oreo and Kaylanee are all doing well. The daily nausea med thst Kaylanee is on seems to thankfully be working. This is also Kaylanee’s 8 month anniversary coming to her live in her furever home with me and her two brothers. I think she’s finally feeling secure and at home because she’s picking up on all her younger brothers annoying bad habits. Which as aggravating as this is I’m also thrilled that she feels secure enough in her new home that she can know “misbehave”. Excuse the two non cat photos, they were unintended and I don’t know how to delete them without deleting the entire post. The cat photos are of my beloved Freyja.

I’ve tried 2x to post this update on Kaylanee let’s hope 3x is a charm. 😺Took Kaylanee for her recheck apt., on Friday 9/4. The vet thought it was as in Kaylanee’s best interest at the moment to keep her on the nausea and prednisone meds, since they seem to be helping her. I was told the nausea meds don’t have any side effects. She agreed that the daily gabapentin was no longer necessary as I told her I didn’t think she was in pain. I will revisit these two meds and there continued use at her annual in March of 2027, unless we end up at the vet before that appointment, pray not! I will however continue to give her the Gabapentin when we travel to NH. Since she’s been on the nausea meds she hasn’t vomited except hairballs 2x, which I’m giving her hairball jell for that. She had gone back to eating the dry and wet Biome food but has started again refusing to eat it. So I’ve been giving her Purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach dry and just ordered 4 different flavors of the same canned version, through Petsmart that I’ll pick up tomorrow. While I’d prefer she’d eat the Biome, I just want/need her to eat. I will continue, when I have time to offer her the Biome, but I don’t always have time to change out food when she chooses to not eat it on any given day. Thanks for everyone’s prayers and words of encouragement for my Kaylanee it’s greatly appreciated. Picture of my little burrito girl when I have to give her meds. Even wrapped up like a burrito she still gives me a hard time with meds. I try to make it a positive experience each time by offering treats before and after and giving her head scratches while she’s all swaddled in the towel but she’s having none of that.
              • Let’s hope you and Kaylanee don’t need to go back until March. As we discussed at our last meeting, any cat food she will eat will deliver the essential nutrients. You are such a good Mom. Hang in there and update us at the meeting Thursday Sep.17th. We’re here for you both. Toni

My apologies for not updating everyone sooner regarding Kaylanee. I’ve had a lot going on with work, the cats I’m fostering, my car and trying to find a back up sitter for my other two cats as I’m leaving August 21 for NH for 9 days. So Kaylanee’s vet appointment went reasonably well. She saw one of the newer recently graduated vet school vets, so I was glad about that because sometimes they are more open minded and aware of the latest options, not that all the vets at my vet aren’t but while I like her regular vet a lot Dr. Stack is a little old school sometimes. Kaylanee is now on 3 different meds, a 2x daily nausea med, prednisone and 50 mg of gabapentin, the later is supposed to be given 2x per day but she doesn’t seem to be in pain so I’m giving her that 1x per day. Dr. Stefan thought maybe due to the nausea she might be experiencing pain too. Evidently cerenia is more of an anti vomit med vs., nausea, which it helps with also but not as well as the new med she’s on. Since the vet visit and being on the meds for about 6 days now, she seems to be doing much better. I keep offering her the prescription wet and dry biome. Sometimes she’ll eat it sometimes she won’t, so I’m giving her whatever she’ll eat, so she won’t loose anymore weight. It’s interesting that she’s been turning her nose up at the biome wet food a lot but will usually eat a table spoon – 1/8 of a cup of the dry biome. She gobbles down the Purina pro plan hairball wet and seems content to eat the Purina sensitive skin and stomach dry. I went with the later vs., royal Canon ID digestive care, which she has eaten too because insurance won’t cover it because they’ll say it’s pre-existing, related to her IBS and I’m still working to pay down my care credit card from
Vet bills it’s looking better but there is still a way to go. It is was rather comical the first day I gave her all the meds. It was obvious the prednisone pre existing side effect of increased hunger, was affecting her, as she was “whining” and looking to me for food, that evening. While she’s been known to start going in circles when she knows I’m getting her food she’s not a vocal cat at all for the most part. The challenge is getting her to take the daily meds. I’ve tried putting them in a pill pocket with treats, not happening .. she eats treats and leaves the pill pocket with pills behind. So I’ve been burritoing her in a towel and shoving them down her throat , which is causing me to have some broken skin on my finger but the important thing is she’s getting the meds in her and she’s back to eating regularly again. I’ve started giving her treats before and after the medication so she’ll associate it with something positive. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I look forward to seeing everyone at the September meetings. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. The first photo is of her playing with a catnip pillow someone made for the cats. That’s the first time I’ve seen her play in the 6 months I’ve had her. She found the toy on her own on the floor. The second photo is one of her favorite places to hang out at the vet, behind the computer or on the keyboard. She also likes sitting on the scale there.

Thank you for your prayers Toni and Berni,
I have an appointment for tomorrow 8/12, ironically her 6 month gotcha day, she ate some kibble last night but refused to eat both the prescription wet and dry food this morning. Instead of giving her more nausea meds, as she hasn’t thrown up since Sunday, I decided to try non prescription canned food. She ate a whole can of the Purina pro plan chicken, so maybe she’s just sick of eating the biome. I did leave her dry biome food out hoping she’d eat that while I’m at work. We’ll see when I get home late to night. It’s not like she has to have the prescription food, it just makes life easier for both of us because of her IBS. However for me the important thing is getting her to eat at this point. She’s barely 6 lbs and can’t afford to loose weight. I’ll keep everyone updated and let you know how vet appointment goes tomorrow, it’s at 3:30 ET.

                • I understand about the food – the calories and nutrients are most important and the prescription & “targeted” foods are often not as appealing. If she’ll eat anything, let her!
We will be waiting to hear from you tomorrow. Good wishes coming your way💕

                  Hi everyone,
I hope all is well with each of you. Belated Birthday wishes to you Toni. I hope and pray it was a blessed day and my apologies for missing your actual birthday.
Please pray for my sweet little Kaylanee. She’s been vomiting and eating limited if any food of late. She’s eating treats that’s about it. I have a tentative appointment for her this Wednesday at 3:30 pm. But I’m thinking I’ll have to call tomorrow to get an emergency appointment. I was hoping to get an emergency appointment today but I had a newer receptionist. I think if I’d gotten one that had been there longer I probably could have gotten in today. I could take her to the ER but the expense and the wait will be endless as she’d be triage as a potential lesser emergency. It always seems when I’m leaving for vacation that one of them has to get sick. Just praying it’s nothing serious. I’m
It sure i can handle loosing another fur baby so soon.

All 3 of my girls that I lost with in 7 1/2 months of each other came up in my FB memories today. Spirit 5/23/22, Black cat sitting behind me, Autumn Ranger, 7/18/22, and Saraya 1/ 9/23, who died of a broken heart after loosing her 2 bonded sisters. July 25, is also the 1 year heavenly birthday of my dear sweet toothless senior Kalina. I only had her for less than 3 months but she left an indelible mark on my heart and befriended and helped Sebastian to become less timid and more interactive with his human, by her sweet gentle loving manner. The last two pictures are of Kalina and of Sebastian saying good bye to Kalina. How I miss my girls and Sebastian and the many other fur babies I’ve lost over the years. Sometimes I wish I could turn back the hands of time so I could have more tike to spend with them but at the save time I don’t think I’d want to repeat the pain of saying goodbye to them again. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you grieving the loss of a beloved pet.
                  • 🙏❤️😢🌈💔❤️
                    • Hi Suzanne, I feel the same as you do about wishing you could turn back time just so you could love on them one more time, but not wanting to go through that awful pain when we have to say goodbye. Losing our loves is the worst heartache ever 💔
                      Sending you hugs!

Regarding Takoda: I finally called the vet Monday afternoon. The vet specialist never informed her via email or otherwise, that they had posted Takoda’s results in the portal. This specialty clinic evidently per my vet is inconsistent with where they post results and this particular specialty clinic has poor communication even with vets, so I guess I can’t take their lack of communication to personally. Anyway the ultrasound results showed no cancer, thank God! It did however show inflamed intestine and bowel area consistent with IBS , so I will pull him off his weight loss food, since vet said he was ok weight wise as she could feel his ribs at his last exam and only feed him the biome for the next month, I’ll just keep his dry food at 1/3 cup per day to cut calories as I was doing with the weight loss food. If he doesn’t show improvement with that and his B-12 injections, we may have to switch to a hydrolyzed diet with out chicken, royal canon has some with a variety of exotic meat flavors. Per Dr. Danboise some cats guts react badly to chicken. If we have to switch, I will try to transition Kaylanee to the same food, since insurance won’t cover her food as they consider her IBS, preexisting. Takoda’s records don’t have IBS written down and we’ll leave it that way so insurance will continue to pay for his food. Regarding myself, I went to Massachusetts yesterday and spent the afternoon and evening with my sister. She’d gotten free tickets, thanks to AARP, to the Wooster Red Sox , triple A team of the Red Sox. While the Red Sox lost the game it was still a fun time. We walked around the ball park, which was built in 2021 and has huge baseballs imprinted with name and number as well as autographed by famous hall of fame Red Sox players. They also have huge replicas of the 4 World Series rings they won this century on display outside the park. I remember when Carl Yastrzemski, retired in the 80s and he was presented with a rocking chair on the field. I also had the privilege, although didn’t realize it at the time, until a fellow employee told me, of waiting on Carlton Fisk, when I worked at McDonald’s as a teenager. I was able to get his autograph ✍️, on a McDonalds bag as I had to bring out an item from his order that was delayed. And yes Toni, I also have been to a Colorado Rockies game, either the same year they opened the park or the following year I still have at least one of the t-shirts. I bought when in attendance there, many many moons ago. 😹 Then I spent the night at my brother’s mother-law’s house and we had a nice visit last night and today as well. Tomorrow, I will spend the day at my brother’s newly rebuilt home up at the Weirs, near Lake Winnipesaukee, his pre ious one was destroyed by a burst pipe, that went undiscovered for 3 weeks while he was on an European cruise. We will hang out together, play cribbage and maybe if it’s warm enough, I’ll go swimming but that’s not likely as while days have been warm nights have been quite cool, making for good sleeping weather. Kaylanee is doing well in NH but I think she’s missing the company of her annoying brothers Takoda and Oreo.
                        • Good news about the ultrasound🙌🎉Whew…thank you for letting us know. It sounds like you are very busy and doing fun things with your family. You need this break and I hope you continue to enjoy your time away. Kaylanee may be happy for a break herself😻Stay cool and be good to yourself. Toni
                          • Suzanne, its great news about Takoda. I’m happy to see Kaylanee is doing well in NH, but youre probably right about her missing her brother’s. Sounds like you had a nice time with your sister in Mass. It is sooo hot down here in SW Florida and being outside is not an option for me. Thank goodness for AC…lol
I know it’s hot up north too, so stay cool.
                            • How are you doing, Maureen?
                              • Hi Toni, I am doing okay. Of course, some days are still hard, but because of therapy, support groups and wonderful advice from so many people, I am moving along. I still miss my Romeo terribly and he certainly left a scar on my heart that I will always feel. He was my everything!
Thank you so much for reaching out.
                                • Yes, Romeo will always be a part of your heart and memories, and sometimes, when we allow ourselves to think back to the times that we shared, good and bad, the sadness and pain come back. I hope you also have smiles when you think of the many fun, funny and loving times you and Romeo enjoyed. Please keep sharing your feelings with us Maureen. I am sending you more {{BIG HUGS}}. Toni

Sorry I missed Thursday night. I realized I had more to do than originally thought I had to do to get ready and I was tired from stress and work. Thank you for all the well wishes and concerns. Regarding Takoda, I’m still waiting for my vet to call or text me with the results of Takoda’s ultrasound. I don’t know if the lack of response from my vet is because she’s extremely busy, a possibility, as she’s the only vet at this practice or the specialist hasn’t sent her the results yet. I’m thinking might reach out to her on Monday, if I don’t hear from her first. Thankfully Takoda’s insurance paid for 90 % of his ultrasound. Kaylanee is not a big fan of the carrier and was moving around and pushing to get out. I had her on the floor in the back seat as I’d heard that was the safest place for them in the car. However at my first rest stop, I took her carrier and put it in the front with me. While she was still agitated it did calm her some as I was able to open the carrier a crack to put my hand in and pet her. She got sick 2x this morning on me and had diarrhea, the later she hasn’t has in a while despite her IBD, and of course she wasn’t interested in eating the vet food I put the cerenium/nausea meds in, she ate all her dry just fine, so I just left that food out for and it was gone when I got home from visiting my mom tonight. She also ate all her wet food tonight with no issues along with churro and treats so she seems to be feeling better. I’m thinking maybe the stress of the drive caused her nausea issues,so I may give her a cerenium before the drive back to Syracuse next Saturday. My visit with my mom today was good. She was in good form, happy and her memory was sharp, thankfully today, for the most part.

                                      • Oh, even humans get carsick so that was probably causing Kaylanee’s distress. Let us know what the vet says abut Takoda’s ultrasound. Good to hear that your mother is doing well. I hope you are able to relax and enjoy your visit. Thank you for your update, Suzanne.

Takoda went for his abdominal ultrasound today and despite two Gabapentin, he still needed additional sedation. I found out that he needed to have a presedation exam because it’s the law when going to a new practice before they can do anything the animal must have an initial exam, even if he goes regularly to his own vet. The ultrasound Dr. will share results with my vet with in24 hours so hoping my vet will call/text me with results before I leave Friday for vacation. 🙏 Since they didn’t call me directly, whatever they found wasn’t a must treat ASAP. I think Takoda did better than his mom, as u was an emotional basket case. I think I was crying more than if I was saying goodbye to him. I’m just hoping the emotional roller coaster will be out of commission for a while because quite frankly, I’m tired of being on it.

                                        • Oh Suzanne, this is so hard for you and I am so sorry for your distress. If Takoda was calmer, so would you be, don’t you think? Maybe you are picking up on each other’s emotions. Hopefully the results will be good and you can enjoy your vacation with family. Don’t feel any pressure to join us this week, but DO keep us updated when you can. Of course, we would love to see you Thursday. You are in our thoughts. {{HUGS}} Toni
