My apologies for not updating everyone sooner regarding Kaylanee. I’ve had a lot going on with work, the cats I’m fostering, my car and trying to find a back up sitter for my other two cats as I’m leaving August 21 for NH for 9 days. So Kaylanee’s vet appointment went reasonably well. She saw one of the newer recently graduated vet school vets, so I was glad about that because sometimes they are more open minded and aware of the latest options, not that all the vets at my vet aren’t but while I like her regular vet a lot Dr. Stack is a little old school sometimes. Kaylanee is now on 3 different meds, a 2x daily nausea med, prednisone and 50 mg of gabapentin, the later is supposed to be given 2x per day but she doesn’t seem to be in pain so I’m giving her that 1x per day. Dr. Stefan thought maybe due to the nausea she might be experiencing pain too. Evidently cerenia is more of an anti vomit med vs., nausea, which it helps with also but not as well as the new med she’s on. Since the vet visit and being on the meds for about 6 days now, she seems to be doing much better. I keep offering her the prescription wet and dry biome. Sometimes she’ll eat it sometimes she won’t, so I’m giving her whatever she’ll eat, so she won’t loose anymore weight. It’s interesting that she’s been turning her nose up at the biome wet food a lot but will usually eat a table spoon – 1/8 of a cup of the dry biome. She gobbles down the Purina pro plan hairball wet and seems content to eat the Purina sensitive skin and stomach dry. I went with the later vs., royal Canon ID digestive care, which she has eaten too because insurance won’t cover it because they’ll say it’s pre-existing, related to her IBS and I’m still working to pay down my care credit card from
Vet bills it’s looking better but there is still a way to go. It is was rather comical the first day I gave her all the meds. It was obvious the prednisone pre existing side effect of increased hunger, was affecting her, as she was “whining” and looking to me for food, that evening. While she’s been known to start going in circles when she knows I’m getting her food she’s not a vocal cat at all for the most part. The challenge is getting her to take the daily meds. I’ve tried putting them in a pill pocket with treats, not happening .. she eats treats and leaves the pill pocket with pills behind. So I’ve been burritoing her in a towel and shoving them down her throat , which is causing me to have some broken skin on my finger but the important thing is she’s getting the meds in her and she’s back to eating regularly again. I’ve started giving her treats before and after the medication so she’ll associate it with something positive. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I look forward to seeing everyone at the September meetings. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. The first photo is of her playing with a catnip pillow someone made for the cats. That’s the first time I’ve seen her play in the 6 months I’ve had her. She found the toy on her own on the floor. The second photo is one of her favorite places to hang out at the vet, behind the computer or on the keyboard. She also likes sitting on the scale there.
