Hello my sweet Bastet! September 19 would have been your 11th birthday.
I still can\’t believe you\’re not here to celebrate with us. I would do anything to change what happened and my decisions.
I am heartbroken you aren\’t here to see the significant events that have happened. My weight loss, surgery, and growth. Ally said you were looking out for me during surgery.
I still feel your presence especially here.
I have seen and felt things I can\’t explain.
I still feel connected to you.
I still remember the holidays, Santa and the silly things you did. Hiding near or under television, and in the dresser. Putting dad\’s underwear in the litter box. You loved the crocheted catnip toys and the laser.
I also remember how I\’d awaken with you licking my ear. You\’d take up all of the pillow. I still can\’t sleep on it.
You loved to solve the mysteries of new toys. Especially the mat and balls. I know how much you didn\’t like baths, nail cutting and being held too long. I know that was just you being a kitty.
From the first year, we included you in everything, including holidays. We took you to see Santa Claus every year. One year you went around checking things out and investigating. We took you for portraits and you didn\’t mind the bow.
One year we went to Waterbury to see Santa. Him and Holly were so gentle, loving and kind to you. I know you believed
he was really Santa. That was the real magic of the holidays. I cherish those moments and memories. The way you\’d look in awe at the sparkly lights and ornaments on the tree. You tolerated my meticulous shaping, light and ornament placing. The Frank Sinatra holiday, and Monster Ballads cd. The prominent placement each year of your ornaments I bought you. You never touched the tree or tried to climb it. I remember one year you sat under the small one looking up mesmerized by the lights and ornaments. You laid on the skirt under the 6ft one.
I hope it\’s alright to say this. Sometimes at that time of year the music, and the lights make me sad. Memories of when you were here, and we were all together.
Sometimes at night I look at the tree, lights and ornaments. Those are the times I miss you the most. I guess the magic of the holiday is the memories and love that still remains.
I still remember you meowing at nite, and how I told you not to. I wish I could hear that meow again.
We did what we could to keep you healthy.
I know you didn\’t like going to the dr. We tried to make sure you were never alone.
Even in those last moments I wanted you to know we were there and how much we loved you.
I know you wouldn\’t want tears, sadness and regret. I\’m struggling still to honor that, and accept what happened. My mind is full of what ifs. I never thought we\’d be coming home without you that nite. I didn\’t want you to suffer or to be alone. Seeing you that way broke my heart.
I have faith and have been told by Lucy, Celeste, Ally, Raina, Claudia and Susan that you are still with me. I believe you are at the Rainbow Bridge in a warm field of butterflies. I know you\’re with Rocky, Timmy, and Jeremy.
I often question if you are laughing about
Satura Tj. I can\’t help thinking you and Tj sent her. She needed a family and we needed her. Your way of looking out for us.
I found the fur, hair ties and toys. I see the butterflies, cat shaped clouds and the rabbits. You are still here.
I feel close to you at the beach.
I would like to think your story didn\’t end 3 years ago. I will probably never know how you ended up in rescue. I\’d like to think your story began when we adopted you. I always admired your poise, confidence and fearless spirit. You were so much more than just a cat. Fierce, loving, with a huge presence.
We still talk about you, sign your name on cards, and look at your pictures. Sometimes we cry, yet we also remember the love.
In the 7.5 years you were here, you taught us quite a bit. You left a lasting legacy.
So long as I am kind, compassionate, and loving you will always be remembered. You showed me how to live without fear, be fierce yet kind and most importantly
to always use your heart. I know what
it means to love and be loved unconditionally. I hope you know how grateful I am for that, the memories and especially the love.
Even though you are not physically here, you are here spiritually and in my heart forever.
Have a beautiful birthday, and always know I love you and miss you.
I will meet you by the bridge with the butterflies.
Love always,
Mom❤️🙏🥰
