Remember 1 year, 6 months agoMy beautiful Echo…she will forever be the light of my life. She crossed over on January 29th and my mom joined her on February 6th. I feel completely lost right now. Losing them both at the same time has left an emptiness that feels overwhelming. I\’d give the world to be able to hug them both and feel whole again.-
Shadoerae, you have had so much loss of those most dear to you, and in such a short time, it is understandably overwhelming💔I am so very sorry foryour pain, and extreme losses. Do you have family or friends to be with you? Who is the kitty in the picture with Echo? Our pets mourn the loss of their buddy, too, and I hope that yo are comforting each other. Please tell us more about Echo if you would like, and feel welcome to join our online group meeting Thursday February 20th at 7PM Eastern (4PM Pacific) to share more with us. You will find kind, understanding and supportive friends here, and in the meeting. I am sending you {{BIG HUGS}} and my deepest sympathy. Toni

I am so very sorry for your loss of Echo and your Mom 💔 💔
-
Thank you very much Tony.
Thankfully, I have an amazing husband who is the best support system I could ask for. Echo was our adventure pup. She loved being out in the woods and exploring new places. Sunday was always Echo day and we’d find different trails and parks to take her to. She was super sweet and loved every person and animal she came across. We found out in November that she had lymphoma. We tried chemo and her remission lasted 6 weeks. When we noticed her breathing change we decided to not let it progress any further. The thought of her suffering terrified me. Heaven at Home came out and she was able to cross over peacefully on her bed. The kitty was actually Echo’s best buddy, Bandit. He was a wild kitten that broke into our house. He instantly made friends with Echo and eventually warmed up to us. He’s been really sad since she’s been gone. He was right there with us when the vet was here. With the final shot his tail poofed up and he rubbed up against her a few times then left. I think he understands what happened in a way. He’s been snuggling with us some at night but spends most of his time sleeping on her bed like he always did. I would love to join a meeting but it won’t be this one. The 20th is my mom’s birthday and we’re going to spend the evening with my dad so he’s not alone. Thank you again for your kind words. ❤️

Brandi, I’m so sorry for your loss of Jazzy 💔 I know how heartbroken you are. Your Bailey is a gorgeous boy and I’m glad you have one another to hold onto at this very sad time.
Sending warm, comforting hugs to you. Peace be with you. 💔 💔 -
Thank you so much! It is still so hard. Every day is a struggle, but I am thankful for my sweet Bailey. ❤️

Being grateful is so important. It reminds us of the many fun, funny and loving times we shared, and why we opened our hearts in the first place. Saying goodbye is so very hard, but recalling the good reasons for loving Bailey can help soften some of the pain. Will you be joining us tonight, Brandi? It may be good for you to talk with our kind, understanding group. Toni

Thank you for your kind words and generous contribution to Faithful Friends.
We exist to be a support for those of us who love and lose our beloved pets. We’ve all felt and had to deal with the pain that is like no other, and the empty places in our homes and hearts.
I try to share some exercises that may help us remember why we opened our hearts in the first place, and can help us honor our babies by recalling the many fun, funny and loving times we shared, not just the sadness and pain of saying goodbye.
Please keep posting in the Community. I see your note to Lulu here and encourage you to write more to her. And think what she might write to you – gratitude for your care and love.
If you can join our group the third Thursday of each month, we’d love to have you.

Remember 3 years, 3 months agoTipper was my first fur baby I lost to cancer, oral cancer, February 14, 2014, after suffering Bloat and cancer in bone. He showed no signs, ate dry food good. He’d his first surgery at a local vet. It was sent off to the lab, but it did not say what kind of cancer. Since I had not dealt with cancer in a pet, I really didn’t know how to approach it. I also had to raise the money for any major surgery. A doctor who did cancer surgeries and surgeries for the vet I used was not a specialist in cancer. His specialty was orthopedic surgery. So, to have part of the jawbone removed wasn’t really explained. They didn’t even refer him to an oncologist. I think no one wanted to help for two reasons, 1) Because of the money and no pet insurance was suggested like CareCredit. 2) He was 10 years old. But after searching for two or three months, I did find a vet who referred me to UT Knoxville, TN. The cancer was found in June, July or August and this was September. No one before made no suggestions. I did have one friend who did try to help. At UT I was told with the advance stage, surgery wasn’t likely. UT even requested the tissue removed at first surgery to try and figure out what kind of cancer, but since it had been two+ months they could not tell. Since surgery wasn’t an option, UT suggested 4 Palliative Radiation treatments. UT was about a 2-3 hour drive both ways. It would not be easy, but as long as he did well, More could be done and it would give me more time with him. So, for 4 weeks one day a week, he and I would make the one trip to UT. At the end of the 4 treatments, the tumor was gone, but the cancer was still in the jawbone. Nut we had Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years together. We were even scheduled to see a dog dentist specialist. But the night before the dentist out of nowhere, he ate good and later that night around 10 PM, his stomach suddenly bloated out like he’d swallowed a football. I got him in my car and went to the nearest emergency…[Read more]

Barbara, what a kind, caring and generous person your are to care so well and so much for so many. Our candles are little kisses of light we send to not only pay tribute, but to celebrate the joyful times of love we shared with our beloved pets. I hope we all find comfort and smiles with those memories as we journey through the pain of grieving. How magnificent of you to open your home and heart to Apache Princess. I adopt older pets, too, and it is not easy to help them through their end of life, but it is so rewarding to provide loving, comfortable senior years, isn’t it? You are a hero and and angel. Thank you so much for being a part of our caring community. We look forward to hearing more about Apache Princess and are here for you with sympathy and understanding. {{HUGE HUGS} to you. Toni

So sorry for you loss. It is heartbreaking 💔 you did all you could possibly do for Tipper. You’ve been through a lot of grief over the last several years. You sound like an amazing, loving and kind person. I don’t know what is worse; watching them fail over years dealing with illness ans suffering or watching them just suddenly die not knowing why. That’s what happened to me with my boy, Romeo recently. Yes, he was 14.5, but, he was still going strong and a healthy boy for his age (said his Vet). I knew he was aging, but,6 I thought I would have more time with him to give him the last best days of his life before I would help him over the Rainbow Bridge by holding his hand and kissing and loving on him and telling him how much I loved him and what a good boy he is and out of all….thank him for coming into my life and saving me. But, no matter how they pass, in the end, they leave us with shattered hearts 💔

Remember 3 years, 6 months agoWe lost Mya Nov. 7th to cancer she was 13 1/2 and our baby girl. I miss her so much and cry every day, this is not the first time we have had one of our family cross the Rainbow Bridge but it hurts like it’s the first time. I am retired and I spent all my time with her and my Golden Doodle Lexi who misses her too. The daily walks are the hardest but we keep to our schedule.-
I am so sorry, Cindy. It hasn’t been very long since you said goodbye to Mya and you know from experience there is no timeline for healing. Each relationship is unique and carries it’s own special bonds. The ones you have with Mya are special to you and her, as are your others, so the grief and pain does hurt anew. I do hope you are finding or seeking memories of the wonderful times you shared, recalling the joys. When we enter a relationship with a beloved pet we know in our heads one day we will part, but the heart is broken. You wouldn’t have given up the years together, would you? Now you are suffering the pains of losing Mya, but you will always have the love and happiness to warm you. We are here to take the journey with you so please feel welcome to share with us. Sending you a {{HUG}}
-
Thank you for your kind comments, I took lots of pictures of our activities and many are on my digital picture frame for us to enjoy. We are just taking one day at a rime.
-
That’s wonderful – having a moving history of your times with Mya hopefully brings back the fun and good times. You aren’t far out from her passing and I hope you are feeling a bit better all the time, but it can ebb and flow and seem like you’re going backwards sometimes. That’s okay, too. It’s all part of the pet love and loss process that we take on when we enter into the loving relationship. Please keep us updated. And if you read some posts here that move you, feel welcome to lend your sympathy and support to others. Toni

Remember 3 years, 7 months agoIt’s been over a month since I lost Tank in a sudden moment he was gone. I’m lost and devastated. I still cry every day and miss him so much. Going thru a lot of bad times he was the only one I had left and losing him has pretty much destroyed me. He kept me focused and I have been able to get thru alot with his company.-
Cara, what happened? What was so sudden that Tank was gone? You don’t have to tell us what the “bad times” are or were. But happened with Tank? Was he old, or ill, or just nothing bad until it happened? Please tell us about him Cara. We are kind, caring, and understand the depth of pain from your loss and parting. It’s horrific. We’re here to help. I’m sending you my very sincere best thoughts, and a {{HUG}}. Toni
-
He was turned loose off his tie out. He had just been out a short time he was a house baby. My boyfriends son was mad at his girlfriend and Tank was barking to play with him. He went and turned him loose knowing that he would run off. We also have horses here and a donkey. Twice the donkey has went after Tank so when he let him loose he never thought about the donkey and Tank ran into the pen and grabbed the donkeys halter, never touched the donkey. He kept yelling that he was gonna shoot him and told the girlfriend to get his gun. I had ahold of Tank and was pulling him back towards me and he fired and shot him in the heart. It was extremely traumatizing to both myself and his daughter was out there to. I could not believe it and it all happened so fast. The way everyone was positioned I could not get in between Tank and him and the gun, I tried. Tank was under the donkey so it was not possible for me to get to that side and in between. Tank ran off about 20 feet with me behind him. He dropped I thought he got him on the leg so I went into shock when he was gone.
-
And thank you. He was my heart dog and helped me with physical disabilities and was my best friend.
-
Cara, are you safe?
-
Yes I am thank you for asking. I’m just heartbroken. I just moved up here a few months ago and it’s been not as good as it should have been. Son finally moved a few weeks ago and it’s got a lot better.
-
Having Tank with me got me thru a lot of bad times especially up here. Losing him especially in that way was crushing. Every day I can still see that moment and it’s devastating
-
That has to be horrific and I am so, so sorry. Please, keep us posted on how you are coming along. We’re thinking of you.
-
It was one of the worst things I’ve ever been thru. Until you have to deal with this kind of incident you have no idea how bad the after effects are. It’s a never ending nightmare. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and kindness. It truly helps

Remember 3 years, 8 months ago
On November 8th I had to make one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. Woke up that morning and our little chihuahua wasn’t acting like herself and was getting sick and started coughing up blood and was having trouble breathing. Called our vet and they said bring her right in. Got there and went in to see the veterinarian and she looked at her and that’s when it turned to the worst day. She told me that my Maggie May was in congestive heart failure and had to decide if I wanted to have go through a bunch of text or let go to sleep. I called my husband who was working and we both said we didn’t want her to suffer and made the choice to let them put her to sleep. It was just as hard as it was when I lost my baby daughter in 1984 to S.I.D’s at a month old. I know in my heart that my fur baby is not in pain anymore and running and playing with all the other fur babies up there. We got her at 8wks old and she crossed the rainbow bridge at 12yrs old. Love and miss you Maggie May.-
Linda, How hard it is to give the final act of kindness – relief and release. It is selfless love that let you help Maggie May find comfort and peace. We wish we could have them with us forever but they are only “on loan” to us, to share joy and total love. I am so sorry for your parting, and happy for the lives you shared. Toni
-
Thank you Toni. I love what you wrote.
-
Thank you for that, Linda. It’s what I feel, and we know – our time together is never long enough, but there is a ‘season’ for each of us and helping our beloveds find comfort and peace is a great gift we can bestow, from love and selflessness. We are thinking of you and are here for you. May we see some more pictures of adorable little Maggie May? She is such a cutie pie. Sending you a {HUG}.

Remember 3 years, 10 months agoMy beautiful fella Jasper I had to let go on April 25, 2022, and I still hurt and cry for him everyday! He was almost 11 and was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was gone in less than a month after diagnosis. I got him at 3 months from a Dayton, Ohio rescue group, and while he frequently was a challenge and always very mischievous, he was a wonderful and loyal companion.-
Sue, you may cry for a long time, and I hope some of your tears are happy for the wonderful times you enjoyed together. Poor little Jasper, at least he didn’t suffer too long and is at peace now. But you are left behind, empty in his absence, and that hurts unlike any other pain. It takes time to heal and find smiles before tears with your memories. The upcoming holiday season may be tough, and we are here for you. Please let us know how you are doing. Toni
-
Thank you, Toni, for your words of love. Yes, I am grateful that Jasper didn’t suffer long, but it gave me little time to prepare for the loss of him. My 49 year old son died of COVID on December 19, 2021, and Jasper was so much comfort to me at that time, and before I had even begun to recover from the loss of my son, I lost my loving comfort fella. I am working on healing from both losses and am having a very hard time of it. I am trying to remember the good times, happy times, with my son and Jasper. My best friend gave me a plaque after my son’s death that says: “When I Needed A Hand, I Found Your Paw,” which was so fitting for the situation I was in at the time! Jasper’s paw was very much needed comfort and he seemed to know exactly when I needed it! Thank you again, for your loving sentiments.

Remember 3 years, 10 months ago💔 A couple weeks ago I had to have my other baby put to sleep. She was in last stages of congestive heart failure and we done did everything there was to do for her. And I have been ate up with guilt. I didn\’t tell her goodbye or take a few mins with her b4 they took her back and put her to sleep. And when I brought her home and buried her beside her dad( that I lost last year on 9-10-21) I didn\’t even take a min to say anything to her then. I just couldn\’t bring myself to do it. It was killing me to have to have her put to sleep and I couldn\’t deal with it at the time. And it was selfish of me and I regret it everyday. And I wish I would of took a few moments to tell her goodbye and let her know how much I loved her and was going miss her and that she was not going to have to suffer no more. But I didn\’t bc of my own selfish feelings and bc I couldn\’t and didn\’t want to face it or accept it at the time. And I have been ate up with guilt bc of it. She had no idea what was about to happen and that this time when the vet took her back to examine her that she wasn\’t ever going see me again. I was just a regular vet visit to her. I HAVE FELT SO GUILTY AND REGRET SO BADLY EVERYDAY THAT I DIDNT TAKE THE TIME TO TELL HER BYE AND LET HER KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE HER & WAS GOING TO MISS HER AND THAT EVERYTHING WAS GOING BE OK AND SHE WASNT GOING BE SUFFERING NO MORE AND THAT SHE WAS GOING TO GO SEE and BE WITH HER MAMA AND DADDY AGAIN. AND I WOULD SEE HER SOON. THE GUILT I FEEL FOR NOT DOING THAT IS EATING ME UP. R.I.P.MY baby girl, enjoy ur time with ur other mom and dad. I\’m so sorry please forgive me😭-
Jackie, Please don’t burden your broken Heart anymore than it already is. Sometimes there are things that are very difficult for us to comprehend or do and helping our Fur-Babies cross the Rainbow Bridge can be one of those things. Please think of all the Beautiful Memories you had together and remember she’s still near you where you laid her to Rest 💙🐾💜 Give yourself some time to Heal and just keep her Love Alive in your Heart 💞
