Thank you, Cody. It’s hard and the house is empty (and tidier without all the pet toys, trees and dishes), and while I am sad, I am happy Walter is at peace. Knowing he had the mass growing, then seeing the blood in his stool, plus his weight loss and lethargy made it very clear he was not well and was declining. He was a real sweetie and I am grateful for having him in my life. I just posted a Memorial to him. Please feel welcome to comment there, too. 🤗Toni -

Penny, When and how did you meet Donnie? How long were you together? What kind of pet was he? This morning I said goodbye to ny beloved Walter and I understand the grief. We all do in our community. Can you bring forth memories of some good, fun and funny times? I find that helps me. The sadness wells up and you need to let it out. Tears help cleanse the toxins and while it is exhausting, it does help to express the pain. I am truly very sorry and invite you to join our group meeting Thursday. Details are in the “Events” section to the right of this page. {HUGS} Toni -

Out of great love, and with heavy heart, I said goodbye to my beloved Walter this morning. We know he had a mass and I\’ve been watching for signs that he was declining. This morning his stool was liquid again, it had a little blood in it, and he didn\’t cover it in the litter box. His way of saying \”Hey Mom, I\’m not doing well\”. Similar to the way Sweetness let Karen know something was wrong. I was surprised at how quickly I could make the decision to give him a peaceful passing, but being aware of his illness made the decision, not easy, but clear. I always say the hard part comes when the house is empty and different, and that\’s what I\’ll be dealing with now. But I am grateful for the time we had together and the love we shared. I\’ll post a Memorial to my Darling in a few days. Toni💔 -

Donnie was the neighbors dogs puppy in a litter of several He was given to my grandson (he was about 3 months old) well being a young boy going to school and sports and so on he just really didn’t have the time to do what was needed so his mom took over I watched him while everyone was at work and I didn’t want to bond with him cause animals know an animal lover lol one night my daughter in law asked if Donnie could sleep with me cause she was just tired of doin it so then it was Donnie and Grandma and the rest is history He was almost 7 and I don’t think he knew he was a dog lol My kids said I lived him more than them Donnie was like my child and the grief has been unbearable Everyone says get a new did I just can’t!!! I got a tattoo the other day with Donnie’s name to me that was therapy I feel like my house isn’t the same without him He barked at everyone and everything Now just silence I just miss him so much!!! So sorry about ur baby I’ll keep u in my prayers

Penny, I am so sorry. I agree – the silence and emptiness are oppressive. It’s so strange and shocking to walk in and no one is there to greet us. I love the tatoo idea. What a charming way to honor Donnie. I posted a memorial here on the site in tribute to Walter. It was hard gong through the photos and videos without crying, but that’s a good thing – it releases some of the grief. I say “Joy shared is joy doubled, grief shared is grief halved”. That’s why we share in our group gatherings (join us this Thursday evening). And of course you love Donnie more than your kids – he wasn’t a teenager :-)…. Keep in touch and let us know how, and what, you are doing. And thank you for your sympathy. {{HUGS}} Toni

@Toni Noel….
Toni, did you say you had to say goodbye to Walter this yesterday morning? 😢
I am so, so sorry for your loss of Walter. 😞. I haven’t been here for long, but, I seem to remember something you said about Walter being okay and I assumed he was ill. I know your heart is broken and I wish I could say something to ease your pain. Sending you hugs 🫂 and hoping they bring you some comfort. I wish you peace at this very sad time. 💔 -
Penny, I am so sorry you lost Donnie! I love the tattoo idea. You can touch it with love and think of him – not that you need it ato remind you. Over time it will get easier to think of him but I am glad you are standing up for yourself and not get a new pet to patch over your pain. People may mean well but they don’t know how deep your love is and therefore your grief. You will know when you are ready. Right now you honor Donnie and your life with him. Best wishes to you!

Thank you all for you soothing words of kindness and understanding, not just for my loss(es), but for each and everyone here in our caring community. It does help to both hear from others and share my own sympathy for your losses. I am choosing to recall the fun, funny and sweet things Walter did and was. He was better longer than he was ‘bad’ (unwell) and I am so grateful he was doted on, adored, cared for and loved as his life wound down. And I am deeply grateful for this community. Thank you 🤗Hope to see you tomorrow in our group meeting.

Karen, I applaud your attention to the signals Sweetness was giving you. They can’t say in words so they communicate with us through actions. It’s imperative that we get prompt medical attention when we see behavioral or health changes. We never want anything to be wrong, but when it is, we can try to cure them, provide comfort, or help them find a comfortable passing. How fortunate you both were to enjoy such a long life of love. Your other kitty may be mourning Sweetness, too, and you can support each other throgh this sad time. Please keep us posted, tell us about your other kitty, join our group the 15th, and know we are thinking of you with sympathy. Toni -

Wow Karen, what a distinct beauty. I certainly see the Tortie. My Squirt was a long-haired Tortie and was with me 19 yeaars. Just my best friend. May I ask what was wrong with Sweetness? We like to share so others can benefit from our knowledge. I feel so bad for your loss, Karen, and am so very sorry. -

Sally, When I said goodbye to my girl I was happy for her release and relief. She was old and unwell. However, the second I walked in my home, I was devastated – she wasn’t there and would not be again. The emptiness of our surroundings and changes to our daily routines is hard and takes time to adjust to. You will, Sally. I will never recommend getting another pet until you’re ready, but much to my surprise, ten days later I took in a one year old kitty whose mother was in hospital, and he really filled my world. (He went back to her three months later and broke my heart again, but he pulled me back into the lovely, loving world.) Take your time, be kind to yourself knowing the wonderful life you shared qith Callie, and one day you will find smiles before tears with her memory. (HUGS) Toni -

Colleen, no one should experience this and I am devasted you and Boomer did. You have suffered a tremendous loss and shock. It sounds as if you have someone with you to support you. That’s good, but you might find it helpful to speak with a trauma specialist. Should you choose to do that, please let me know if I can assist you. This is such a sad thing to read and I can’t imagine the pain you are experiencing. Please come to our online group meeting June 15th. You don’t have to speak, but if you want to share with us, we are here for you, as we are here for you in our caring community. You will be in my thoughts with deep sympathy, and best wishes for healing. 💔Very sincerely, Toni -

Stephanie, What happened to Lenox that was so sudden? You may see Colleen’s post about the tragic event with her beloved Boomer. It’s terrible to say goodbye under any circumstance, but when something suddenly happens it is truly horrific and the pain of loss is magnified by the trauma. Please tell us what happened and what you are doing to cope. I am so very sorry, Stephanie. Toni -

Karen, some years ago I said goodbye to my Squirt who was 19 and we spent all those years together sharing EVERYTHING. It was terribly hard but tremendously rewarding to have had her be a big part of my life. How fortunate for you and Spooky to have shared a long life of love. I am so sorry for your loss because I understand the mix of emotions – happily heartbroken, if you know what I mean. Please sow us some pictures. I hope you join us Thursday June 15th – I’d love to meet you. Sending you a {Big Hug} -

How touching it must have been for you, Sally – to have Callie come to you, to bring you joy, love and comfort. Callie had a loving, long life with you, and we can never have them long enough, but don’t you feel your life was enriched by having Callie with you? Now the hard part – the emptiness of your home, and missing her. I encourage you to come to our group Thursday the 15th – I think you will find great support and understanding, and you can share with us. Toni

These darned anniversaries and holidays are tough, Maureen. At one of our group meetings it was suggested we also mark the day of birth or adoption to celebrate the wonderful time and life we were gifted to share. I like that idea but understand how we count the days and months since parting. You are kind, generous and gracious to share your own sympathy and understanding with others and I hope you find a bit of comfort in comforting others. I am still so sorry for your pain and hope you are finding a little more joy each day. We;re here and thinking of you. Toni - Load More

I’m so sorry to
Hear of the passing of Walter. In the short time he was with you in his final fur ever home you both touched each other’s lives and once again your heart is hurting and has another hole, hopefully at the right time to be filled by another fur baby in need of a loving fur ever home as Walter was.
As hard as it is to say good bye for the final time you made the right decision to set him free of his pain Hindsight bring for sight, I let my spirit suffer longer than she should have because I was selfish and wasn’t ready to say goodbye. While the decision to set Autumn Ranger and Saraya free wasn’t easy I tried to be less selfish and release them earlier on so they didn’t have to suffer anymore
You and everyone else mourning the loss of a beloved animal or human are in my prayers.
