Hi, I just wanted to come here to tell all of you that I had the hardest Mother’s Day on Sunday and I’m sure there are a lot of you here that did and I am sorry to you too. I’m still going through this terrible grieving process and I’m not sure if I’m ever going to get past it. People don’t get why and I just tell them it’s because I was Romeo’s mommy and now he’s gone. I ask them how they refer to their spouse or significant other when telling their pet to go find them? They say ” I tell him to go find Mommy / Daddy”. Then, they get it! I know some never will and that’s okay because I just stay away from those negative, judgemental ones.
My heart is still so broken right now 💔
Thank you for letting me vent.

    • WE ‘get’ why, Maureen. You lost a dear, beloved family member. And you are not “venting” – you are sharing your deepest pain with our community of people who understand and care. Can you join our group meeting Thursday at 7 EST? I think it will help you to meet others and share with us. If not, please keep sharing here. As you remember Romeo, can you think some happy times and fun or funny things he did, that you did together? Don’t let those good, loving times disappear. It’s a way to honor Romeo – smiling and laughing about the wonderful life he shared with you. Here is another {{HUG}} for you. Toni
      • Maureen, How are you doing now? You are so kind and thoughtful to share your sympathies with others while you are aching, too. How generous of you. Please know we are thinking of you, too. {{HUGS}} Toni
        • Hi Toni, thank you for your kindness. I am still having difficulty dealing with losing my Romeo. It will be 5 months on the 6th. I am still just so very heartbroken and I’m just having a slow go of it. I am better some days, but, then I have days where I cry a great deal. I know there is nothing I can do to rush through this process. But, that’s okay, because I don’t want to ever forget Romeo and grieving keeps him alive somehow.

Showing compassion to others comes naturally to me. I’ve always been that way, even though in the beginning of this sad journey of mine I didn’t have the capacity to feel for anyone but myself. So, the fact that I am able to show compassion to others once again must mean I’ve made some progress in dealing with my own grief. It is so heartbreaking to read every day just how many people are losing their fur babies. 💔
Thank you for being here for all of us.

          • Maureen, I find sharing support helps ease a bit of my own grief. I always say “Joy shared is joy doubled, grief shared is grief halved”. You are very knid to share your sympathies and we all appreciate that. It’s a slog, moving through grief, and can’t be rushed, but thinking of good times with Romeo may help you, and knowing you gave him his best life and love may bring you some comfort. Do you think Romeo would want you to be happy for the lives you shared, and want you to be happy for that? I do. I hope you can join our group June 15th – you’ll meet some very kind people who undertsand and care. Stay in close touch, Maureen. We’re thinking of you. Toni
            • Maureen, I appreciate that you are so open and vulnerable with your grief! As you say, at the beginning we have no capacity to feel for anyone but ourselves. With courage you open your heart a little and are able to feel compassion and see that we’re not alone with what we are experiencing. All the while our own grief is going through changes and we are able to help others who are at the beginning of this journey – because we understand! And it helps. It doesn’t make the grief go away but it takes the sharp edges off and gets us out of isolation. I love seeing your comments for others in the community. Romeo would be proud of you!
              • Thank you, Sigrid and Toni for your responses. You are very kind. Yesterday was a hard day. It marked the 5 month mark of Romeo’s passing. I spent the entire day reading other people’s posts about their loss. I found myself not able to comment on most, but, did manage to show compassion for others who were just beginning this awful journey with grief. I hate that for them because it is so painful and raw. In some ways, I feel that’s where I am. I am trying my best to honor Romeo’s memory with happy thoughts instead of tears, but, it’s so hard. It’s the beginning of another day here and I’ve had my usual morning meltdown. Sending hugs 🫂 to all who are grieving here and everywhere else. This is the sadest place to be. 💔
                • These darned anniversaries and holidays are tough, Maureen. At one of our group meetings it was suggested we also mark the day of birth or adoption to celebrate the wonderful time and life we were gifted to share. I like that idea but understand how we count the days and months since parting. You are kind, generous and gracious to share your own sympathy and understanding with others and I hope you find a bit of comfort in comforting others. I am still so sorry for your pain and hope you are finding a little more joy each day. We;re here and thinking of you. Toni
