Amber, I am sorry for your loss of Amber. She was such a pretty girl. I know 17 years is a long time to have her, but no amount of time would have been enough. I wish I could have had my boy longer too. Peace be with you. 💔 -

Hello, I just wanted to stop by and see what was new and how everyone is doing. I would also like to offer my sincere condolences to all here at Faithful Friends.
I have not been doing well myself. I am still grieving hard and can’t seem to move forward. I think I have figured out why. I feel so comfortable in my grief now and. It is a safe place for me to be where I can never forget my Romeo. I know this is not healthy, but, I feel so bad when I am not thinking of him because I don’t want him to think I’m forgetting him. So, I stay stuck in the loop of reliving his last moments over and over and it brings me to tears. Maybe crying makes me feel good because I am grieving over him and honoring his memory. I can’t let go….I just can’t. My life consists of just getting through each day. Waiting for all of this to end. I have never, ever been this broken in my life and I don’t see an end to it at this time. 💔-
Maureen, I know what you are feeling, I too keep running thru my mind her last moments. Let’s make a pack. You do your best and I’ll do my best. They wouldn’t want us in pain. We have a smile within us, it’s trying. I’ll be strong if you are.

Maureen, Powerful chemicals are stimulated with our emotions – think of the “fight or flight” syndrome where our bodies secrete tons of adrenaline – similarly, we are awash with chemicals and hormones when elated, in love, or in grief. Tests show a difference in the chemicals found in tears of joy vs. tears of grief. They are powerful, and can be mitigated with deliberate choices to bring forth happy and good memories – “choose joy” – to create more “happy” hormones. And, it can be sort of addicitive bacause your body iliterally has those chemicals in it. An exercise you can try is my “ruler” – think of your time with Romeo in inches with each year = 1 inch. You and Romeo shared 14 years (inches) of joy, fun and love, and just a fraction at the end was bad. Now, each day spend time in one of the first 13 inches. Allow yourself to be happy, at least for awhile each day, throughout the day. Romeo would tell you that, don’t you think? That way you are not forgetting him, but are honoring his life with you. You will never forget him, so please don’t let that stand in your way of remembering him with joy. You see you are not alone and that our caring community is sharing your grief and theirs, and I hope some helpful ideas to help you heal guilt-free, knowing that being happy for the life you and Romeo shared is a tribute, and not “forgetting”. Quite the opposite. I’m sending you a {BIG HUG} and looking forward to hearing more from you. Your words of support to others is so very kind, and appreciated by all. Hopefully you find some comfort in sharing your understanding with others. Toni

Brony, I will try because I know they would want us to be happy. Thank you for your kind words. Sending you hugs 🫂

Toni, thank you for your response and your guidance. I do remember happy things about Romeo each and every day. I have no problem doing that. However, I am having difficulty with remembering the things we did together without crying. His absence from my home is the hardest and I cannot walk anywhere in my community because he isn’t with me anymore. Everywhere and everything reminds me that he is gone. I dont want to be here anymore because of those constant reminders, but, I just cant pick up and move. Besides, I dont think I could move out of my home and leave Romeo’s energy behind.
My whole existence revolved around him and it is just too painful to face those memories. I understand what you’re saying about feelings being addictive and I might be addicted to feeling sad right now because it makes me feel loyal to Romeo’s memory. I know it’s not good to stay in the past with those last moments of Romeo’s life, but, I am trying to come to terms with that.
I know time will help. But, it’s just not now.
I thank you and everyone here for your caring comments. I really, really do appreciate them.

Brony and Maureen, I love this, you making a pact because Lulu and Romeo would have wanted you to be happy and go on living good lives. They are safe and sound in your hearts and they are waiting for you to be able to feel that. Love to you both!

Hi Sigrid, thank you for your kind response. Brony was nice to suggest we make a pact to be happy and go on living our lives because our babies wouldn’t want us to be unhappy. I wouldn’t ever want my boy to be sad because of me and so I will try my best to do just that. I lived my life for him and his happiness and I hope he died knowing that. Sending love to you, Maureen

I am sure he did, Maureen! They are generous souls and they want to spread happiness. So glad you and Brony will support each other! Love, Sigrid

Thank you for your kind words and generous contribution to Faithful Friends.
We exist to be a support for those of us who love and lose our beloved pets. We’ve all felt and had to deal with the pain that is like no other, and the empty places in our homes and hearts.
I try to share some exercises that may help us remember why we opened our hearts in the first place, and can help us honor our babies by recalling the many fun, funny and loving times we shared, not just the sadness and pain of saying goodbye.
Please keep posting in the Community. I see your note to Lulu here and encourage you to write more to her. And think what she might write to you – gratitude for your care and love.
If you can join our group the third Thursday of each month, we’d love to have you.
With purrs and hugs,
Toni -

Wow, how lucky for you both to have 17 wonderful years together, Amber. It’s never long enough, is it? But what a long time to share the loving life you did. It hurts in places and ways nothing else does, but if you can, when you can, I hope you will think of the many, many good times and things you shared, and that you find comfort there, knowing what a great pet parent you were. Because you were, Ambber. Please let us know how you are moving along. {{HUG}} Toni -

That’s what I remind myself about Walter, too, Tana. He isn’t at risk of his mass bursting and dying in extreme pain. There is a lot of comfort (in our heads) but in our hearts, it hurts. Please be happy for Zoey’s life and love, and that she’s out of harms way now. I’m thinking of you. (HUGS). -

Brony, yes you will always carry them in your heart and thoughts. Please try to think of your times together like a ruler with each year being an inch. You had 18 and 14 inches of wonderful love, fun and joy, and just a half inch of them not being well. Take a memory from each of those inches and allow yourself to celebrate and be happy for them, and for you and the life you shared. Of course you cry and are broken in your heart and soul. That’s what deep love brings with goodbye, but you gave them their best life and I hope you find comfort knowing that. Our next group meeting is July 20th and I hope you join us. Until then, please keep us posted on how you are. Toni -

Hi there, you wanted to learn about Lulu. Well she was an itty bitty thing that hid under my shed she wasn\’t more than 3or4 months. I had a little dog Phoebe and they became the best of friends. Well I know what a cat in heat looks like, and so does Phoebe. I got her spayed and shots and she couldn\’t wait to go home and join Phoebe out the cat door under the house to go potty. Lulu made me laugh all the time. She didn\’t like to be picked up and didn\’t sit to long for attention. You paid her to much attention she would slap you.. took me a long time to name her. I finally came up with the name Lulu. When she was almost a year my mom needed help and I had another feral cat that brought me her 3kittens. She was spayed and was stuck to me like glue. I had to choose 2 to go to moms, I choose Mama Kitty and Lulu. Phoebe got a home. Well I lived in a room, the cats were happy as long as I was there. Mama Kitty passed away about 5yrs ago, she was my heart, took me awhile to get over her, first cat I ever put down myself, I miss Dad he did all that for me. Well Lulu was lonely and she had been in that room for 8yrs. She started to really like me so I spent hours petting, playing, and talking to her. Well she got fat. I didn\’t mean to make her fat, she just loved eating. Now mom was gone so Lulu got the run of the house. She played outside as long as she could see me. Loved anything that wiggled or crawled, I know cause she would bring it in the house. She enjoyed the last 3years stayed in the yard or in the house behind the screen. It was there she met a stray, he stop by every few days and have a conversation with Lulu. All of a sudden days away from her 14birthday she quit eating and drinking and she was lethargic. 3 days and she was gone. I slept next to her under my mom\’s bed with a blanket on her. The sprinklers woke us up, I know she was awake cause she started purring. By the time I got back from the bathroom she was gone. As the life went out of her so did my life ended too. That\’s it I have no more animals. I was left all alone, no mom, no dad, and no pets. I\’m not sure what to do now. I miss her so much it breaks my heart. I will have another cat that needs me as much as I need it. A shelter pet that is spayed or neutered and about 2or3 years old. I just don\’t want to replace Lulu with another one. I\’m waiting to give my emotions some time. I all of a sudden start sobbing cause she\’s not here. The picture on the blanket was at the end of may 2023. And the picture was with her best friend.-
