Oh no, Susan. I am so, so sorry. These are the days we know will come one day, and when they do, it’s devastating. But, we know going in that our darlings are only “on loan” to us, and we get to enjoy the time of loving and joy together for as long as we, and they, can. It hurts in a way nothing else does and I feel it with you. A stuffed toy helped me – do you have something with which you can cuddle? Don’t be too quick to remove Teddy’s things. You may be surprised by the comfort they can bring you over the next days and weeks. Try to stay active and engaged with other things, and allow yourself time to feel your grief and the pain. That’s the path to a day when your memories will bring you smiles before tears. It takes a lot of love to share a life, and say goodbye. I hope you know that you and Teddy were very fortunate to have each other, and he would only want for you to rejoice in your shared life and love, as you would for him. Susan, please, please let us know how you are coming through. I’m thinking of you. {{ }} Toni -

Oh Jackie, the most loving and kind and generous gift you gave her was release and relief from her suffering. No matter how you parted, she knew you were only acting from love. I totally understand not “saying goodbye” and how that hurts you and makes you feel guilty. Years ago, my Prince was dying and I took him to the vet, and left him. He died overnight. That was over 40 years ago and I still wish I had stayed the night with him. I have said goodbye to many loves and each time, once the “sleepy” medicine is injected, they are already comfortable and at peace, and my loving words and touches are really for me – they are already resting and probably don’t know, sort of like when we are under anesthesia. When I let my Beauty Girl go in February, after the final injection, I kissed her and said “I know you’re not in there anymore” and that is the truth – we’re not in there anymore. No more pain or suffering, just peace. So go ahead and feel guilty if that helps you but I guarantee your baby would be absolutely grateful to you for the life of love and caring you shared, and only wants you to be happy for that. Saying goodbye is horribly painful for us, but how loving of you to give her release. I hope you will grant yourself the same kindness of knowing the final act of kindness is letting go, accepting the love you shared for the time you were gifted. No one here would ever join you in your guilt, only support for what you had to do from a position of love. And for sure your baby knew, and knows, you LOVE her and always will. Please, let us know each day how you are coming along – we’ll go through this with you, Jackie. Here is a big {{HUG}} I hope brings you a bit of comfort. Toni -

Kristi, anniversaries and holidays bring up strong emotions with the memories they commemorate. I really, truly feel better talking to and petting the canvas portrait I had made of my girl and you might, too. I’ll put the link below. What is your girls’ name? May we see photos? How old is she? Does she have some of Apache’s things around that she can be with? We know the whole family mourns a loss, including the other pets, and you are doing your best to heal you both. It’s not easy nor quick but one day you will find smiles before tears with your memories of Apache. Hang on to your girl and stay in touch with us. We are thinking of you both. Toni

Glenda, I am sending you my heartfelt sympathy. Suzanne says it so eloquently and I share her sentiments. We never have them with us long enough – they are only “on loan” to us – but it is always a deep pain when we say goodbye. Thomas, Tubby and Salt are probably mourning, too, and you are all fortunate to have one another to move through your grief together. Kissinger is at peace now and we know he would want you to find great joy in the years you had together. Please let us know how you are doing, Glenda. {{HUGS}} -

Marybeth, I am so very sorry for what you are anticipating. Our community is here to support you because every one of us has suffered the loss of a beloved pet, and we will be here for you. I found a stuffed toy really helped me – my girl slept tucked under my chin and having the toy there in her place was a big comfort. (You can contact Cuddle Clones by clicking the link on the right side of this page).
Knowing Drake is unwell gives you time to prepare, and to make every moment extra special. My girl was very unwell and I knew in my head it was a relief and release for her to pass peacefully, but in my heart the pain was deep. We have to always do what is best for our babies and sadly, saying goodbye is sometimes the best choice for them. Perhaps you would like to have a memorial service for his family and friends, or a party before you say goodbye so everyone can shower him, and you, with love. Whatever you choose, please let us know how you are all doing. If you need an urn or keepsake, you can find a lot of lovely, many personalized, memorial items in our shop. I clipped a bit of fur from my beauty and keep that, along with a canvas of her I had made. I talk to her and pet that every day and it makes me feel better. https://www.faithfulfriends.com/shop/custom-pet-canvas/
We’re researching the issue with photos and it seems that iPhones don’t allow direct uploads, so you can save as jpg and upload from that. Please let us know if you need help.
And Marybeth, please stay in touch with us. We will be thinking of you and sending our strength. Toni

Suzanne, what a thoughtful note you’ve sent. I am so glad you have your mother with you. Enjoy her company. My girl took medicine for her kidneys (you can have them compounded into a flavored liquid, which was a lot easier for us both. Pencol did ours and may be able to help you – https://pencolpharmacy.com/ ). Also, acupuncture helped her by stimulating blood flow to the kidneys. She didn’t mind it one bit.
Regarding the photos: we’re researching and believe the issue is with iPhones, and how Apple formats and saves the photos with one of the latest updates. Currently, it isn’t compatible with WordPress (and the wider internet) by default. It might take some time until there is widespread support for the new format. I know this isn’t ideal, but you can save photos as JPG files (the standard photo format) and the upload will work. Let us know if it doesn’t.
Oliver (Mr. Pudge) and Sebastian sound great and I hope you can get their photos up. 17 pounds is BIG and when I was taking care of Boots, he was 15 lbs. but wasn’t fat – just, “Pudgy” :-). Sebastian will come around. Poor things, they don’t know what happened to their person, and will become accustomed to you and their new environment. And hey, nothing wrong with butt scratches! You are very kind and generous to open your home and heart again. Spirit and Autumn Ranger are happy for you all. Thank you for the kind words of support you share. We know it means so much, and look forward to hearing more from you. Happy petting!! Toni -

I am so sorry Kathy. Anniversaries and holidays bring up memories, good, and sad. I hope you are recalling a lot of the good times, too. I know for me, even when I’m thinking of the good ones, sometimes I hurt and cry even though that wasn’t where I started, or wanted to go. It’s a mark of how close you were and how much you meant to each other. That’s such a treasure. A year isn’t very long and I hope you let us know how you are coming along. Please join our Group meeting September 22nd at 8 PM Eastern. We are here to support you. Sending you a {{HUG}}. Toni -

Randy, it’s wonderful to hear from you and get your update. We all remember when you first met Renzo and I have wondered how you two are doing. A splinter may be small but can cause big trouble if it becomes infected, and just imagine having to walk on it! I’m so glad he is doing well. Yes, the memories can bring great joy, but also grief. It happened to me the other night – I was just thinking about my girl and all of a sudden pain and tears came on. There is no timeline for feelings, and gratefully the happy ones come more often that not.
He is such a handsome fellow and I hope you will share more photos and stories with us, especially as the seasons change. Sending you my best wishes. Toni -

Hi Cindy. One month is a strong marker of Scarlett’s passing and I know it is very hard for you. Even though she was needing to find comfort and release from her terrible affliction (I’ve known other dogs with similar masses), the hole left in your home and heart is painful. I am so sorry. Wouldn’t it be nice if they could tell us when something is wrong? Your pictures show she had an adventuresome life with you and that is wonderful. How old was she? How did you meet? We will be thinking of you tomorrow, and after, and are here to listen and support you, Cindy. Hang in there and stay with us. It’s not much, but here is a {{HUG}} for you. Toni -

In our heads we know Milo enjoyed a super long loving life with you and it was time for him to move on, but being part of your life for so much of it makes everything you do a little emptier. It’s really hard, Carmelina. And yes, you were both very fortunate, and you wouldn’t have wanted those years of your life to not have had Milo with you, nor would he have wanted a life without you in it. But, he is at peace now, and while you are the one suffering the loss, you know he would want you to be warmed by his memories, and instead of sad – happy for all you got to share. Grieving takes time, and we are here to carry a little bit of that with you. Always sending you heartfelt {{HUGS}}. Toni -

@carmie Carmeilna, today is seven months since your parting from Milo and I am sure it’s a tough day for you. How are you doing, and what are you doing to make it through? We’re here for you.

Thank you for thinking of me! It was a tough day and I miss him so much. I just remind myself that I was so blessed to have him for 21 years. As I so often referred to him… Milo truly was my little miracle, and I am so grateful for all the beautiful memories I have of him and Simba.

Continuing to hold you in prayer Carmelina and hoping that you are able to find some peace and healing in the wonderful memories you shared with Milo, over those 21 years. Never forget that while Milo is no longer with you person, he’s watching over you from the other side of the Rainbow Bridge and loves you from the great beyond as he did when he was with you. Holding you in prayer.
