Dianne, yes, of course you will. Birthdays and anniversaries always stir up our thoughts and memories more than usual. Last night a human friend of mine died at 36 and, while it doesn’t help when I think of my old (17 year old) cat failing, it DOES give me perspective on the life cycle, how none of us know how much time we get, and to embrace life and joy while we can. Bessie most definitely loved, and loves you, too, and wants you to keep her always in your heart while you allow yourself happiness in her memory. Let us know how you are doing, Dianne. -

I think that’s a nice thing to be doing – just remembering Taffy. Oh my goodness – what a smile :-). Sydney, thank you for sharing this. How old was Taffy? How did you meet? How long were you together? Do you have pets now?-
Taffy was 13. I bought him from a pet store. I do have three dogs. Theyโre all seniors
-
Oh my – three more dogs! That’s lovely. By “senior”, what does that mean? My vets call cats over seven “senior” and frankly, I object :-)…. maybe ten or so, but seven? What is considered senior for dogs?-
Ananything over seven. All my dogs are over 12
-
Hmmmph. Seven seems awfully young to be a “senior”, doesn’t it? You’re obviously doing things right to have so many over twelve. Good for you, great for them. Thanks for sharing with us.

Spending a quiet, loving evening with my girl. She likes for me to blow gently, warmly, on her fur, rub her belly, and scratch her fanny. These private, special moments bring a joy from deep within, don\’t they? -

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. “Cost is only an issue in the absence of value” is very apt when it comes to providing a peaceful passing in the comfort of home, with loving family, human and pet. Our friends at Pet Loss at Home can help locate in-home services in many areas around the country and are a valued resource at this most difficult time. Again, thank you for sharing this with the community, Tim.-
ANYTIME Toni!!
Also for the community, dont wait too long to find another furfriend!! The wait in between Jolie & Libby was hard on us because it felt lonely. Grieve is necessary BUT your passing animal would not want you to grieve long. We have TOO MUCH love to give a fur friend!!! We waited almost five months before getting another little one! And we would not have waited that long if Libby came to us sooner!!

Oh Patty, yes, heartbroken, deep grief and sadness…..May I say that you did the very best for and by MuShu, and you can bet she knew everything you did was for her best, and from love. None of us get to stay in our bodies forever – but they stay in our hearts forever. Gosh, she was a beauty. Those eyes! I am sad and teary knowing she isn’t with you now. But Patty, you are a wonderful “cat mom” and MuShu wamts you to go forth and enjoy the rest of your life, one day perhaps open your home and heart to another love. Thank you for sharing your story and pictures. Please stay an active member of our caring community. Others need your kind words of understanding and support. And, we are here to support YOU as you move through this extremely difficult time. Hugs to you. Toni -

Thank YOU Lisa for your kind words. I had a dog named Moses. Was your Moses a dog, too? What type of pet was Chester? Please tell us about them and share photos if you like. How are you doing – okay? -

Jill, no one in this community will ever question your pain, nor the length of time it takes to move through it. We have a book to help heal – “Griffin’s Heart” ($27.99). It was written by Reagan J. Pasternak (you may know her from her acting career) and Reagan had a very close love with her cat Griffin. She wrote the book to help herself heal and is making it available to our community. It’s in our Shop if you want to try that. We’ll be releasing a Paw’d Cast with Reagan soon. Jill, stay with us – we are here for you. Here’s a HUG. Toni -

Hello Dana. I am struggling with words for you. Your story is so eloquent, emotional and poignant. Anticipating, preparing for, and experiencing the death of our beloved pet is why we are her for you, Dana. I have no words right now other than these: Grunt-Grunt is cool with with this – it is a part f the life cycle that pets and animals understand and accept better than humans do. Well, some humans do, but mostly, death is a very important part of life and animals know that. The horribly painful part of life is the parting from our loved ones. No one replaces a Grunt-Grunt, or Bear, or Ladiebug…. but boy oh boy, the joy, the fun, the laughs and loves we shared sure make the horrific pain of loss understandable. SO MUCH LOVE is so hard to lose, it hurts so much, and yet, over time, in our own time, the tears are replaced with smiles, and gratitude, and yes, always Love…. Dana dear, let us know what is going on with you…..-
Yes, if I had the choice of skipping my babies, as well as the pain of loosing them, or to have both my babies and the inevitable grief and pain, I’ll take the joy and the pain. I’ve taken to taking Grunt-Grunt outside at about 500-530am and we stay out for about an hour or so. This is our time now, and in the late evening because we live in the desert and it’s already over 100ยฐ during the day. My fiance built her a little bed frame with a shade over it and I made the mattress for it so she has a soft comfortable place to lay when we’re outside. She loves it. Next week we are putting in a 4’x4′ patch of grass for the Grunt-Grunt too. This way when she has to potty when it’s hot out she can use the grass and not burn her little feet. She isn’t fond of her booties. Spent the weekend looking up patterns for doggy wheelchairs. Got a couple of ideas, even found the most expensive part, for free. The wheels I found on an oxygen tote. Excited I found them, but saddened too. Her breathing still isn’t quite right, maybe I’m just worrying too much. Bear was taken from me suddenly. Took him in to check something out, and I got a call from the vet, they had just put down the most incredible soul I’d ever met. And I didn’t get to be there. I was there for his first breath and every breath after that, except his last one. I was working, and didn’t think they would put him down without me there. 5 yrs and I still go to pieces thinking about that. Ladiebug, we had to choose her pass over day. One of the hardest days. I’m trying to prepare for Grunt-Grunt, including saving money up so that when the time comes, hopefully I’ll have the money and that will be one less thing for me to stress over.. thank you for the beautiful words and the support. They are appreciated more than you know. I have only my fiance here, no friends to speak of. This makes venues like this so amazing, and people like you so wonderful.
-
Dana, thank YOU for sharing your inspiring stories. And your loving spirit :-). Little Grunt-Grunt is very lucky to have such care. I understand how sad and heartbreaking it is to see them fail – my 17 year old is on lots of meds and yesterday I noticed her walk is off a bit, so I’m scheduling yet another doctor appointment. It’s hard, especially because they don’t complain. And you are right about taking the pain in exchange for the love and joys. We know going in that one day we’ll have to part, that they are only “on loan” to us. Keep us updated on how you and Grunt-Grunt are doing. Hugs

Cherie, Oh my how sweet and sad.,,,,I know exactly what you mean, and I think we all can admit that there are some loves that are deeper, stronger, more “connected” than others with our pets. We love them all, but there are special relationships with our furry friends, just as with our people friends – right? Some with whom we connect and resonate in a different, communicative way. Know what I mean? -

Donna, These dates are markers for our losses and it is understandable that your feelings well up even more. What happened to darling Beta? Can you tell us about it? I am terribly sad for you and hope you find joy in his memory beginning to outweigh your sorrow.-
Yes I will tell you exactly what happened to my beloved Beta. He was having trouble breathing so rushed him to the vet. They said he was in heart failure but with the meds they prescribed he would recover & they wanted to see him back in 2 weeks. We brought him home & gave him the meds & an he after after taking them he lost his mobility. Then 3 hrs after the meds he was dead. He died on my chest. He was only 8 lbs. I was told by my physician that the meds that the vet prescribed was too much for his body & caused him to have a heart attack. They took something from me that wasnโt theirs to take & that was my baby. So you see I am hurting as he should still be here with me . .

Lenora, you are so kind to extend your understanding, especially since it hasn’t been long since you parted from Hope. That was a shocking and devastating experience. Of course you are still reeling. We’re here for you to share with. Please let us know how you are coming along, Lenora. -

Well Mary, I can’t think of a better thing than having spoiled and loved kitties. I doubt they’d have it any other way – we ARE their slaves after all ๐ My cat is all black, too, and my childhood cat looked a lot like your Peanut. Love to see more photos and hear about their antics. -

Cheryl, you are so right about having a new love. Chuck just introduced us to his little Dixie who is loving him up since Dexter passed. Everyone is different about bringing a new pet into their home and heart – it can be a long time before you’re ready, or soon after. We all know our new pets don’t replace our beloved, but they build a new love with us. You are very kind to give these little guys a safe, fun, loving home, Cheryl. Pictures!! We want to see the baby when you get him ๐ -

Kerry, I am so sorry. How long has it been? There is no timeline on grief, and the emptiness around the house echoes loud in your hearts. As Cheryl suggests, one day you may be ready to open your home and hearts to a new love. I really think they want us to go on living happily, and to love again and more. No one will replace darling Oscar. I hope soon you find yourselves smiling with your sweet memories. It’s okay to hurt. It just hurts so much. Please let us know how you are coming along. OH! We are getting ready to launch an inter-active book to help with healing. We’ll keep you posted when that’s available. -
