Marilyn, I know it’s really hard and hurts, but the pictures of him show how happy he was – he has so many looks. Your family did a wonderful thing to share a happy, safe and loving home and life with Splinter (love the name, and thanks for explaining how he came by it). Do you think you will open your home and hearts to another? -

You two look happy in your new digs. Does Benny like going out in the new area?

Kristi, I am so sorry. It hurts in a way nothing else does, and is deep within. You feel empty, the house is different – everything is changed because Apache was so much a part of your whole being and daily life. It’s brutal to say goodbye regardless of age or health status. But…and I know this is hard, he would want you to be joyful for the life you shared, and is grateful to you for your caring love, as you are for his. I found holding and sleeping with a stuffed animal very soothing when my Beauty Girl passed. I take comfort in the memorial tribute I posted here for her, and with time, as I think of her age and illnesses, I know in my head we had an incredible life together. It’s your heart and soul that are hurting you so much right now and I hope sharing with our caring community brings you some relief. When you feel like it, will you show us some pictures of him, and tell us more? I hope you will come to our online group gathering Thursday August 25th at 8 PM Eastern (5 Pacific) and you can share more with us. I am sending you my sincere sympathy and hope you find smiles before tears with your sweet memories of Apache. ToniFor your reference:

Hi Toni,
Sorry I’ve been so out of touch. Thank you for thinking of me and checking in. I meant to let you know I would be unable to make the August zoom meeting as I was doing last minute vacation preparations, as I left the next day for twice two weeks to visit family in NH. I was also very worried about whether or not I’d be able to get one of my two new boys into the carrier to bring to NH with me. Thankfully all worked out and the 4 of us made it safely to NH and back again. I fulfilled my promises that I made to both Spirit and Autumn Ranger. On August 4, I welcomed two bonded 9 year old declawed boys, Oliver and Sebastian. I chose to keep their given names since they were older boys and I didn’t want to confuse them. They ended up back in the shelter after their human had to enter a nursing home. Oliver is a very out going and friendly and is nicknamed by me, Mr. Pudge, as he weighs in at 17 1bs. We’re trying to work on loosing some weight but time will tell. H… -
Suzanne, what a thoughtful note you’ve sent. I am so glad you have your mother with you. Enjoy her company. My girl took medicine for her kidneys (you can have them compounded into a flavored liquid, which was a lot easier for us both. Pencol did ours and may be able to help you – https://pencolpharmacy.com/ ). Also, acupuncture helped her by stimulating blood flow to the kidneys. She didn’t mind it one bit.
Regarding the photos: we’re researching and believe the issue is with iPhones, and how Apple formats and saves the photos with one of the latest updates. Currently, it isn’t compatible with WordPress (and the wider internet) by default. It might take some time until there is widespread support for the new format. I know this isn’t ideal, but you can save photos as JPG files (the standard photo format) and the upload will work. Let us know if it doesn’t.
Oliver (Mr. Pudge) and Sebastian sound great and I hope you can get their photos up. 17 pounds is BIG and when I was taking care of Boots, he was 15 lbs. but wasn’t fat – just, “Pudgy” :-). Sebastian will come around. Poor things, they don’t know what happened to their person, and will become accustomed to you and their new environment. And hey, nothing wrong with butt scratches! You are very kind and generous to open your home and heart again. Spirit and Autumn Ranger are happy for you all. Thank you for the kind words of support you share. We know it means so much, and look forward to hearing more from you. Happy petting!! Toni

Of course you will!! Pick up those feet and go get him, Carmelina. I was absolutely bereft when my Beauty Girl passed – the pain, the emptiness, the litter box and dishes and her beds gone…and then Boots came into my life and I understood how BG and Milo, and frankly each of us would only wish for more love to come around after we’re gone, too. Yep, one day you’ll part again but what a delight to have the time together. All kitties are going to die. All people are going to die. Even rocks erode over time. Don’t let the fear of loss overtake your joy of living, and sharing with a kitty who needs your loving and happy home. If I hadn’t experienced it myself, I wouldn’t be so bold, but I really hope you will open your doors – to your home, and your heart, and share again. That said, it has to be when you’re ready, but it sounds like you are. I love that you are so kind. Let us know what you decide. And send a special {HUG} to Suzanne who is mourning, too. Toni -

Crying is exhausting but serves an important purpose – carrying toxins out of our system (similar to perspiration). You have so much piled on right now, and you are doing a great job moving forward. Let your pups help you the way you are helping so many others. And if you can find someone to give you a hand, that would be a help. We’re here for you. {{HUG}} -

Gawd, she is just sooo cute, and has settled in nicely. Raina will always be with you, so don’t feel bad about ways in which they are alike – enjoy the newness and building another life, and love together. I am still so sorry about Raina….I miss my girl too, but am glad she is not failing anymore. I hope you take comfort in that for Raina, and truly pour yourself into this new fun! Keep sending pics and tales 🙂 -

Oh Regina, you have got to make a ew moments for yourself. I do know that is easier said than done, but we don’t want you to get sick – you can’t be a help to anyone then. Good to hear about your Mother. It’s nice you still have her. But it’s hard. And caring for pets is a big responsibility. Can you get someone to give you hand or a break? Please, keep us posted. Thinking about you. -

@mari15 Marilyn, I am sorry for your parting from Splinter. What a neat name – how did you get that> What kind of pet was Splinter? May we see photos and hear about Splinter? Are you doing okay? I hope so. Toni

Suzanne, that is the most touching tribute and truly honors Autumn Ranger and Spirit. Thank you for sharing your experiences and deepest feelings. You must let us know how you are coming along, and when you find two sweethearts to share with. I’m inclined to adopt seniors, too. You might try Fostering – it allows you to get to know each other and find out if you have a special connection. Oh, thank you for extending your kind, caring understanding with others in our community, like Regina. We all hurt when one hurts, and it helps to know we care. Sending you {{HUGS}}. Toni -

How fabulous of you, Regina, to share with so many dachs. They sure are cute and have a lot of personality. Who’s the big rabbit :-)??? -

Oh my, Martha…Mae is too cute. I’m smiling and laughing just looking at her. How very kind of your friends and husband. You have to share stories and photos or videos of Mae with us. We know she is not a “replacement” for Raina, she is her own pup and you will have a special loving relationship with her, too. We are all so delighted for you, and to have Mae as a new community member :-)…..here’s a {{smooch}} from me :-).Toni -

She is super cute 🙂 Looks like a fun goofball, and you look very happy. How kind of you to keep your home and heart open to more love. What’s her name? Tell us about your other pus, too. Congrats to you all! -

Oh Regina, my girl slept tucked under my chin every night and when she died I was fortunate to have a stuffed cat that I tucked in. Obviously that’s not a replacement but it sure helped me.
Geez, it seems like dark clouds really do “gather” and come in groups. I am so sorry for what you are going through, and you WILL go through it all, but it’s wearying on every level for you now. Please, try to take some moments for yourself – to grieve but also to find a bit of joy or humor. We’re here. Keep reaching out to us, and know I am thinking of you. -
