Walking in the door of an empty house is one of the hardest parts for me. I am sorry and hope seeing some of her favorite spots brings you a smile (alongside the pangs I know you’re feeling). Mardi was lucky to have your care and love in her twilight years, as you were lucky to share her life. Deliberately recalling the better days can help us remember why we open our homes and hearts. Parting is part of the deal and while we know that in our heads, in our hearts we are broken when it happens. We’re here for you, and I hope you will join our group meeting Thursday July 20th 7PM EST – 5 PM MTN. Links are under “Events” on the right side of this page. Sending you {HUGS} and love 💕 Toni

Lisa, each day and month that goes by is a marker of your time with Baby. In your five years together, you enjoyed fun, funny and loving times and I hope you can bring forth a few memories of those each day to counter-balance the pain of loss you feel. Please join us July 20th to talk with our kind group. {{HUGS}} Toni

Sue, don’t let anyone pressure you into opening your home and heart again until you are ready. I’ve gotten a bit of that from well-meaning friends, but I am not ready right now to take on the tremendous responsibilty and time and attention our pets deserve. I do have all the “stuff” (litter boxes, toys, trees, etc.) for the next ones, but not just now. What we can do instead is donate to our local shelters and rescues to support the good work they do.

Sue and Maureen, Thank you both so much for your kindness. To me, and to others here. 🤗
I am so glad Walter didn’t suffer a rupture. He was eating but lost 20% of his body weight which means his system was nor functioning well. I miis him but sincerely have to be happy he had a loving, comfortable end of life with me. I hope to see you both on the 20th – I think it brings us closer to actually speak, with and see one another. {{BIG, BIG HUGS} to you both. Toni

One month ago I said goodbye to darling little Walter. I just walked in my house fully expecting him to greet me. It\’s hard to get used to, and it takes time to adjust. But I am very happy for the time we shared, and that he is not in pain or danger of his mass rupturing. It takes awhile to find balance and ultimately, more joy than sadness. Hang in there everyone. We\’re always here for you, not matter how long it\’s been. {{HUGS}} Toni
                • I am so sorry to hear this, Toni! I missed the June meeting, so didn’t know of Walter’s passing. It takes so long to get over losing a pet! I am still hurting from the loss of my darling Jasper on April 25, 2022 — and still can’t bring myself to open my heart to another one yet!
                  • Thinking of you and sending warm thoughts and lots of hugs. Walter is a beautiful kitty. I'm sorry for your pain. 💔

                        • Walter looks like a character and I agree: nothing is worse than to see them suffer! Yes, so much love is needed. Both my sweet cats, Tim and Lulu, passed away last year. I miss him sitting in front of the house where he would wait for us. He knew the sound of the car half a block away! And Lulu would drape herself all over my deck, making it very clear that this was her space and nobody else’s. My heart is healing but I decided to wait until the construction on our house is done by the end of the year hopefully. It would be too chaotic for them. So I teamed up with a neighbor to take care of the feral neighborhood cats. They are fiercely feral and I doubt I will be able to make them accept me closer than 4 feet away but it feels good to see them wait for me in the morning and evening and know somebody cares for them.
                          • Oh Sigrid, how sad, and to say goodbye to them both within a year is extra painful. I am so very sorry. Please share some photos of Tim and Lulu. Great names! As you know from being in our community for awhile, we’d love to have you join our group meeting July 20th. And a huge Thank You for your work with feral cats. D. who is a frequent participant in the group has insights about her feral cat and think you would enjoy hearing about that. Also Sigrid, thank you for the exquisite urns you create. Besides being treasured keepsakes, I can feel the love in each one. Finally, thank you for your kind support for all of us here.❤️ Toni

Oh Karen, The pain and the reality of the emptiness in your heart, and your home, is very raw and fresh for you and I am so sorry. I found holding and sleeping (and crying on and kissing) a stuffed animal helped me a bit in the early days. I also gave away her things too quickly and encourage you to hang on to Chloe’s for a bit. Do you have other pets in your home? If so, I hope you find some solace with them, and they are mourning too, so it’s good to share your grief with them. If not, are there family or friends to console you? We’re here for, and with you. It will do you good to join our supportive group July 20th (link is under “Events”) and you are welcome to share photos and stories of Chloe with us. Sending you a {{HUGE HUG}}. Toni

What a charming image you have given us, Brony. Being in nature or seeing animals is a healing force. It reminds us of all the other life out there. If you can snap a photo of the Turkeys, please share it with us. Now you have me worried about them come Thanksgiving time.

Maureen, it’s good that you are identifying some of the specific reasons your grief is so unrelenting. Not being able to say goodbye is a terrible thing. It denies us the chance to bid farewell and say again how much we love them. Romeo was well loved by you all his life and he knew that, do you think? We all wish for a slow, gentle passing (for our pets and ouselves) but it doesn’t always happen that way and we struggle to adjust to the sudden change in everything about our lives without our beloved. I think you are coming up from the depths and hope you allow yourself to include good memories of the long, loving life you shared. We’ll crawl along beside you. {HUGS} Toni

You are crawling through ths tremendous pain of parting and it is a challenge – some moments you can smile with the good memories, others you can’t breathe through the sobs. Inch your way along with us. Every few hours each day, try to bring forth a good memory that mekas you happy. If you can get out in nature, or around people, do it. And keep sharing with us. We are here to listen and share. ((BIG HUGS) Toni
