Lillian, I’m so sorry for your loss of Poogan 💔 What a beautiful pup he was. I know your heart is broken and I wish I could say something to help ease your pain. I still grieve for my Romeo who I lost 13 months ago and I am lost without him in my life. Time has helped ease the pain and it will for you too. Of course, we will never forget our fur babies.
Sending you hugs and wishing you peace.

Vicki, I am so sorry for your loss of Artie 💔 It is never easy to say goodbye to our fur babies. I lost my Romeo 13 months ago and my heart is still shattered. He was my heart and soul too, so I understand what you mean about Artie being yours. You certainly have had your share of loss and now anticipatory grief for the fur babies you still have. 💔 💔 Thank you for saving all of them and I wish you the very best. Take care and just give cuddles and kisses to those doggies while they are still with you.
Sending you lots of hugs. Peace be with you.

This is my first post. It\’s hard for me, even now, to talk about Artie. He passed away 09/19/2022 at the age of 16 from cancer. I adopted him when he was 2. He was my heart dog and there won\’t be another like him. I adopted him sight unseen from someone taking him to a shelter in Tennessee. I live in Georgia, my daughter is in Tennessee and called me to tell me he needed a home. So I drove 8 hours round trip to get him. He want the best dog ever and the best friend I\’ve ever had. I adopted 4 other dogs too. One passed away in 2017. She was a hospise adoption but lasted 3 years. The others I still have. One is almost 15 and is blind and fighting hepatitis. One is almost 12 and dying of cancer and heart failure and my baby is almost 7 and wild! I still grieve Artie every day and am pre-grieving his sister Abby. I read the other day you have your heart dog, which was Art for me, and then you have your soul dog, who is sent to help you recover from the loss of your heart dog. AJ is my soul dog. The sweetest little guy and my shadow. Here are pictures of Artie (the hairless dog) and Abby (my Yorkie).

Hi Toni: Sorry I haven’t been able to join the chat the last several months, but seems like something always comes up OR I am exhausted. I have a sister with health issues that I’ve needed to spend time with and have had a few myself (nothing too serious). Eddie (the furry buddy I got from the gentleman in assisted living in August) and I are still working on adjustments, but we are doing very well together and I am so glad to have him. Hope to join chat again soon (I always have it on my calendar). Have a great month until the next chat. Sue Finley

Judith, I am so sorry and sad with you, but also so happy for the many years you and Walker shared. I don’t understand your comments about “the service” you received and ask you to elaborate if you want. Was it about Walker’s end of life experience? I am very distressed along with you if that is the case. On Friday, Walker’s birthday, can you choose to think of 3 – 5 fun, funny and loving times you shared each year over your years together, to remember Walker and honor his life by being joyful for having him in your lives. You might want to write a birthday card for him, telling him all you feel and want to share, and if you can, write a note TO you FROM Walker with what you rhink he would want you to know. Judith, please let our community know how you are doing Friday, and any time you like. We understand the pain of parting and the joys we want to celebrate. Here is a {{BIG HUG}} for you. Toni

Thank you for the welcome! Losing Walker was the most difficult loss we have faced so far. He went from a placid dog to a raging bull and very difficult to restrain. But the experience was made worse by the fact that the service we received was less than comforting. I felt he was not treated with the dignity he deserved. I miss him so much. Friday would have been his 19th birthday. I was so excited to plan his birthday celebration. I was so sad all day.

                        • Thank you. I really miss him…
                          • Toni….in answer to your question about the service. We have been to this clinic before and they have been excellent. But on this night I felt they were callous. They have a room for pets that are leaving and on this night it was occupied. I understand that. But they put us in a room with no blanket or anything to make him comfortable. When they brought him to us he was still thrashing. They plopped him in my arms and said hold him. In the middle of our grief and trying to restrain him someone came in to collect payment. It was just not the warm sympathetic feeling we’ve had in the past.

I understand that my feelings at the time made me less than understanding. I realize they were busy. But it felt like they just wanted us to be out of their way.

                            • That is so disturbing, Judith. That must have added to your distress beyond acceptance and I am just so sad and sorry you, Walker and your family had that experience. 💔A few times I have had to go to the hospital, not my vet, and they have a policy that you don’t need an apointment for euthansia, and you receive priority over other patients. They have always been kind, caring and patient, and I am sharing this in case it helps should you need euthanasia agian – you might check what your local hospitals offer. If you can set that aside, or push it behind, I hope you can recall the wonderful years Walker shared with you. I like to think of our time together as a ruler with each year being an inch. You enjoyed so many inches until the fraction at the end that was so hard. I hope that helps you somewhat in thinking of Walker. Judith, please keep sharing your feelings here. We’ll crawl through your grief with you. Toni
                              • I just hope and pray that even in his madness he knew how much we loved him…
                                • Never doubt Walker knew your love for him and that you were always doing what was best for him💕
                                  • I know how difficult it makes having to make the decision to say goodbye is made by uncaring service. Twice now we have been hurried a long in making the decision and how much time I was given to say goodbye. One dog was put down before I could even get there to say goodbye. You obviously loved Walker very much and that he lived his best life with you. And always remember that between hello and goodbye there was so much love. Much PugLove and many PugHugs Angel Grunt-Grunt and Momma
                                    • Thank you for your kind words. I know I am looking at it from my hearts point of view when I say he deserved better. But maybe I’m being unfair. Maybe they were very busy that night with other emergencies.

I know you will never forget Ranger and Axel, and I hope you are finding great joy when thinking of the lives you shared together. And how fabulous that Renzo and Rowan are best buddies!! My two kittens are crazy about each other and I am waiting for their DNA results to tell us what they are. Maybe you could do that for Rowan. But really, who cares – they are our loves and we are fortunate to have them in our lives, right? Those ears! Faces! What sweethearts. One of my all time favorite photos is of Renzo in the park that you posted some time ago. Feel welcome to repost it if you like.
Randy, when you read a post that moves you, please share your sympathy – it means so much to know others care and undertsand. And please always be in touch. With my condolences, Toni

Melissa, Forever wouldn’t be long enough with our beloved pets. I am sorry you said goodbye to Holly Golightly 💔When I have parted from my beloved babies, I fee good knowing they are no longer suffering, but walking in, and being in the house is extremely quiet and lonely, and it hurts. I hope you will read my response to Lillian and take somethng from the “exercises” I suggested, and share more about what you are feeling and thinking with us here. There are many pet owners who are here for you to help you. I certainly am. With sincere sympathy, Toni.

Lillian, I am so very sorry for your loss of sweet Poogan, and yes, the pain of parting WILL ease, with time, and some exercises you can do to help: Think of fun, funny and loving times you and Poogan shared – ask yourself if you would rarher have shared those times even though you had to say goodbye and feel the pain, or never had Poogan in your life? Write notes to Poogan telling him about those times and how much joy he brought you, and write FROM Poogan to you – what do you think Poogan would want for you now? I suspect he would want you to be happy for your shared lives and to move forward knowing he lived his best life with you. Celebrate the day you met. What a grand day that was for you both! Get out of the house if possible, maybe volunteer at a local shelter, or watch silly things on TV. Talk to friends and family, and to us here in our community of kind, understanding people. We’re here for you and want to hear from you. {{HUGS}} Toni
