• Crystal and Toni, thank you.I definitely know something is wrong with mama cat.I have an appointment at the end of the month to have mama put to sleep. As of now,I see her not getting better.I do not know what to do.She is starting to eat,but still is having runny poo.Now she isn’t using her litter box,and it is always clean. My heart is tearing into many pieces as she cannot continue to live this way.It isn’t fair to her.

    • Dianne, you love her enough to help her find release and relief. Your love is unselfish enough to let her be in peace while you bear the pain of parting. What did the Vet say? And you know what – no one knows her better than you, so talk to your kitty about it, and if it’s time to make her comfortable, don’t let her suffer. I hope my words help you. We all care about your kitty, her quality of life, and you.
    • Well my sweet old girl is eating, and even though she is thin,I do not have it in me to put her to sleep. She has had runny poo,but is more like soft ice cream.I love mama dearly, but I just cannot put her to sleep unless the vet feels it is necessary.
My two year old cat came home.

      • :-). So happy to hear this, Dianne. I have asked the kind people at Waggle.org to reach out to you. Crystal may contact you. I hope they can help you all. Aha! Your two year old is home! Smart kitty. Thank you for letting us know and let me know what happens.
        • Hello Dianne,
I’m so sorry to hear about your sick mama. I work at Waggle, a crowdfunding platform to help raise money for animals in medical need. If you’re seeking tests and treatment for your sweet girl, please consider signing up at http://www.waggle.org/signup and creating a free campaign. You’ll need 3 pictures, your cat’s story and your veterinarian’s information (along with how much the testing and potential treatment will cost). If possible, we will help you raise the funds necessary to cover her medical costs, and send the money directly to the veterinary practice.
Sending you and your cat strong, positive vibes!
          Crystal @ Waggle
            • Crystal, from the depth of my heart, Thank You and Waggle.org for the good work you do to help pets, and their loving parents, in need. The care and kindness of reaching out to our community is so much appreciated. Thank you 🙂
          • My two year old cat ran away.He was born toa feral mom,and he didn’t want to stay inside.I am heartbroken.
I have second thoughts about having my mama cat put to sleep.Yes she is very skinny, and is wanting to eat,but she still has bouts of runny diarrhea.I just don’t know what to do as I only get a certain amount of money from SSI every month.I love mama cat very much.I do not want to end her life if it can be avoided.

            • My friends’ cat had that kind of diarrhea and was diagnosed with lymphoma. She is doing well, takes a chemo pill daily and they expect her to survive a year or two. Please contact http://www.waggle.org for help with payments – I don’t know what they will do to help you, but mention Toni at Faithful Friends sent you. Let us know what you find out. Another friends’ cat ran away and sauntered back home after two weeks, so yours may come home….let’s hope. Dianne, keep us posted. Sending you BIG HUGS
              • Dianne, How is your girl? Have you decided about tomorrow? I’m thinking of you warmly. Toni
                • Oh, did your other kitty come home?
                • Hi Toni, I am sorry you have not heard from me in a while. I lost two cats from the beginning of December to the middle of January. Stripes had a heart attack, and became paralyzed so I had to put her to sleep. This happened at the beginning of December. With Christmas coming it was very sad for me. I had already bought her a Christmas gift. Then the second week of January I had to put down My tutu because she had cancer. I miss them both very much. I do keep their ashes and put their names on their little coffins, and now they giving paw prints from the crematorium, so I have a paw print for each. The year before that I had lost topper, which I had told you about. I did adopt a new one year old kitten in March of 2020. He was actually a feral cat that I took into my home. I had a spade, and named him Hex. My dog Syrus is doing great. Both are spoiled brats. That is what I call them all the time. When they first bought them home, they would eat anything. Now I have a dog who is very particular about his food, he only likes the Pedigree ground food, and the Pedigree hard food. My cat likes the iam hairball remedy hard cat food, and Sheba wet cat food. I guess I have really spoiled them myself, Because I kept trying different food until I found what they liked. Anyway, my dog and cat love each other they’re constantly playing together. I have several neighbors who love my dog so much, they actually like to walk him and take them to their homes to play with their dogs or cats. I have an outside deck that’s open, and sometimes one of my friends brings her dog over so they can play together. This is kept me busy during the pandemic. Have a great weekend.
                  • Whew, Geri, you have been through a lot, and been very busy. You did the kind thing for Stripes and any holiday season makes it even harder. And you know the same is true for Tutu. It’s so hard because in our heads we know our time with them is limited , and that releasing them from suffering or pain is the supreme act of selflessness and grace, but boy, in our hearts and every cell, it hurts so much to part. I am terribly sorry. And, I am excited for your baby, Hex (great name) and his friendship with Syrus. They look like a happy couple :-). Oh, don’t get me started on food….I think we can all relate to the trap of “try this. No? Try this…” until we finally land on something they’ll accept and enjoy. They train us well, don’t they? I am delighted you thought to update us Geri, and am sorry it wasn’t all happy news, but it’s really good to hear from you. Please send more stories and photos of Hex and Syrus.

I think you’ll be okay for a 4 hour drive. Just make sure your gas tank is full! There are a lot of mountains depending on the part of state you’re in — beautiful drive 🙂

I am heartbroken for the decision I have to make, and I wonder if she knows because she keeps putting her face into mine, something she’s never done before. Her appointment is on the 7th of September.I have to do this. This is heartbreaking.Thank you for asking Toni.
                            • Years ago, my 19 year old was failing and I took her to a hospital on a Friday night (this was before in-home euthanasia was available) and told them it was time. They said she just needed antibiotics. Well, I still resent that poor little Squirt had to live that last week – she was miserable, suffering, and it wasn’t in her best interest to keep going. Exactly one week later she was bleeding from every orifice, her heart was jumping out of her chest, and I took her to her own vet and gave her relief from her suffering. She probably knew, and I am certain she was grateful. We are the ones left behind to grieve the loss but I truly believe they think we’re being silly and want us to be happy for the lives we shared. Which we will be once we move through the pain and indeed, heartbreak of parting. She’s probably letting you know it’s okay and trying to comfort, and thank you. We’ll be here.

Just going day by day my brother passed away 3 weeks ago and the following Saturday we had to put his dog down

                              • Oh gawd, Lori – how powerful to have so much big loss in a short period, or any amount of time. I am so sorry to hear this. How are you holding up?

She actually looks anorexic. Her food dish is full.I have had her since she was a 7 week ball of fluff. She isn’t wanting to eat.I have tried my best to adjust her foods.Still no interest. So yes,I have to do what’s best.I just worry that she won’t hate me for what I am going to do.
                                    • Dianne, I wouldn’t mention this but think it may help you: My mother had ALS and desperately wanted relief from it. Human euthanasia was not legal so my sister and I couldn’t help ease her way and grant her a peaceful exit, for which she would have been grateful. So no, if anything, your selflessness is a gift to your girl, for which she will be grateful, and will always love you.

I am having to make “that” decision no pet parent wants to do.I have to have my 13 year old mama cat put to sleep next week. Before anyone asks why, I live on a fixed, monthly income and after paying my rent and other utilities,I do not have have extra money left.I am doing the best that I can.
My mama cat does not want to eat and is becoming very thin.Yes,I feed her twice a day.
Her quality of life is declining.
I have had her since she was 7 weeks old,and could fit into the palm of my hand.No negativity, please.I am beyond super stressed and sick feeling.

                                        • Just read this. I am so sorry Dianne. Making that decision is the hardest thing. There is zero shame in not wanting your animal to suffer — ok? 13 years is a beautiful life and you will know when she’s had enough. Be proud of yourself for loving her this much. She knows you do.
I’m so glad this site exists if only for people like you.

                                            • Reagan says it beautifully. The decision to do what’s best for her is the ultimate act of kindness and generosity, even while it breaks your own heart. It sounds as if she is choosing not to eat – a sign that her system is shutting down, just as in humans. If that was not the case, I’d send you to our friends at http://www.waggle.org to seek financial support. They help pay vet bills when needed. But it seems like your baby is ready to go. What a loving, long life you shared – we can’t ask for, or offer more. You are loving and caring, Dianne. We’re here for you to let us know how you are. HUGS, HUGS, HUGS

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying…you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear.
                                                          “It’s me, I haven’t left you…I’m well, I’m fine, I’m here.”

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you that I am not lying there.
I walked with you toward the house, as you fumbled for your key,
I gently put my paw on you. I smiled and said, “It’s me.”

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.
It’s possible for me to be so near you every day.
To say to you with certainty, “I never went away.”

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew…
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over…I smile and watch you yawning
And say, “Goodnight, God bless, I’ll see you in the morning.”

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I’ll rush across to greet you and we will stand, side-by-side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out…then come home to be with me.
