This is my 9wk old little one, Bailie. I\’m having a hard time missing Pooh, but have found her a comfort. She\’s not here to replace, Bailie is here to renew my heart. She\’s a handful, but I love her. Can\’t wait to see how she grows up.-
Oh My Dawg, Kat ๐ What a little darling she is. And so many toys to destroy – Good Mom! No, Bailie is not a ‘replacement’ for Pooh, no one ever would be. Nor should she be. Bailie has her own life to live and share with you, and you have more love and joy to give her. Pooh would be so happy for you both. May I share my story with you? After losing my beloved BG last year I was not at all interested in meeting another. But, Boots needed a home and of course I took him in (if I can keep one out of a shelter, I will). Well, as bereft as I was, I didn’t have time (nor the desire) to feel miserable anymore. It was a lesson for me – that as broken as my heart was, it was patched up and mended by having a new love enter it. I never forget my BG, and sometimes still shed a few tears, but mostly I am grateful and happy for the times we we shared. I hope that is true for you and your new baby Bailie. Please, you must send us pictures and updates about her. And please feel welcome to continue to share with us about how you are doing. Join us Thursday to talk about Pooh, and Bailie. Toni

It’s been almost 2 months since I lost Pooh and the grief is still here. The tears still flow and I get a lump in my throat when people ask about Pooh not knowing she passed. I don’t want to replace her and know I can’t, but I can continue the love I have for her. In May I will be bringing an 8wk old puppy into my home. I have named her Bailie and she has already put a smile in my heart. I know I will still miss Pooh and nothing can take that away, but I know I continue her legacy with sharing my love with another sheltie girl. I will keep in touch with all of you and let you know how I’m doing.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am so heartbroken because I lost my boy too. The pain is unbearable. I wish you peace and comfort .💔

Kat, I would never recommend getting a new pet until you are “ready” but I took in a young cat last year only ten days after my BG died and it completely changed the way I felt about her passing. It made me realize that she and I shared a fabulous life for as long as we were given, and that another baby needed a life of love and kindness. Bailie is not a “replacement” for Pooh, she is a new life of love for you to share. Don’t you think Pooh would be thrilled for you both? I do. And we will always love our darlings and can find smiles and warmth with oir memories of them. Please share some pictures of both Pooh and Bailie and tell us everything about Bailie when she comes home to you. How generous of you to open your home and heart to another. Toni

I am so sorry about Walter. Pooh had a bad gallbladder and it worsened. I kept saying I understood that she needn’t hold on, but my heart wasn’t, and still isn’t, ready to let go. It’s amazing how these bundles of love get into your being and makes us feel so secure. Prayers with you because I KNOW what you are going thru. Please message e anytime you need to unload. Bless you. -

I\’m still struggling with the loss of Pooh. At the same time, my best friend is in a new relationship and; well you know how it is with NEW relationships and friends. There are times when it\’s so hard, but I try to put my big girl panties on and such it up. One nice thing is I did get a pillow of Pooh and I can hold onto that when tears cloud my eyes. Thank you for this group and please inform me with the next group meeting. -

Thank you, Toni, for your kind words. I think of Pooh with only our good times. Her 18mos of gallbladder trouble was just a sickness that needed to be taken care of like diabetes. With a wonderful vet, we had scheduled ultrasounds to keep on top of the condition. I guess I’m having the most trouble with knowing I have no one here to lean on. When my 1st Sheltie passed at 13, my husband was here. When he passed, I had Pooh…for 7 years. She passed and there’s no one at home for me. I have lost my parents, sister and brother, so family is scarce. Pooh was family. Again, thank you and I will be looking forward to the online meeting in March. God Bless youl. Kat -

Can someone help me get hold of myself? It\’s almost 2 weeks since I lost Pooh and I can\’t get my heart to stop cracking. I\’ll be fine for a while and BAM! something reminds me of her and my heart feels like it\’s cracking apart. I have her ashes, a VERY NICE canvas of her and I\’m still shaking at times. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I know I\’m being dramatic, but it just hurts and I don\’t want to wallow in hurt. Thank you so much.-
Kat, I hope some of this helps you.
Grief is like the ocean: it runs deep and flows in waves. Even our tears are salty. Sometimes the ocean is calm and soothing – our memories of our beloved bring us joy and warmth. You never know what will bring on a squall and all you can do is surf the wave until it fades.
Our kind, caring and understanding community meets online the third Thursday of each month and I hope you can join us. We listen and share and it really helps to talk about our feelings and what we are doing around them. You’ll get an email with the link for March 16th at 7 EST.
May I suggest you think of your life with Pooh as a timeline – the many good, fun and loving years you shared, and the short period leading up to her passing. There is perspective in that – years of good memories that you can draw upon.
Another tool is to write a “joy” book about the good times, and bring those to the forefront of your thinking.
Get out in nature, help a friend or neighbor, perhaps volunteer at a shelter when you’re ready. Talk to family, friends and us – people who care and understand.
Kat, there is no escaping the pain of your loss, and while it hurts so much to do it, you have to allow yourself to recognize and go through it. You’re not alone, we’re here for you. I will be thinking of you with sympathy and great warmth. {{HUGS}} Toni

Oh geez, Kat, you have lost so many – not their love, but their presence. Can you visit with neighbors or friends near you? If not that, is there a shelter you can visit to comfort pets who are in transition to new homes? Herre’s an idea: watch silly or fun movies. Write thoughts that come to you. Reach out to others here in our community who would love to hear from you with your sympathy and understanding. I hope to hear from you each day because I am thinking of you. Toni

Hi, thanks for admission to the group. My Pooh was a 13yo Sheltie. She was my rock, companion, shadow, best friend…and everything else she could be to me. Right now I am lost without her. 💔
