I wrote an update regarding Kaylanee last night,,I know it posted because I saw it posted but it disappeared so I’m posting another update. So if there is suddenly two update regarding Kaylanee’s dental surgery I apologize.

Kaylanee’s visit to the cardiologist went reasonably well. She may possibly have a mild heart murmur but because she was purring so loudly it was difficult to verify. She does have some thickening around the left side of the heart very early stages but nothing to be overly worried about at present. Both the murmur and the thickening of the left ventricle will be monitored with a follow up appointment scheduled for April of 2027. I am also monitoring her respiratory rate on an ongoing basis and if it gets above 40 I’m to call the vet ASAP. regular repertory rate is 20-25 per minute. It’s challenging to monitor a black cat for respiratory rate per the vet. I guess the color make it more challenging to see her breathing. Thankfully she was cleared to have her dental procedure, which thanks to a cancelation will be this Thursday April 9. I think God has been intervening for my sweet girl as I got into see cardiologist and for dental procedures very quickly both due to cancellations; otherwise wait to see Cardiologist Would have been may or June pushing back her dental surgery until July or August. I filled out all the paperwork and sent it into waggle, for financial assistance to pay for Kaylanee’s dental 🦷 surgery, which could be any where from 2 – 3 thousand dollars 2 being on the low end. Serious increase in price since Sebastian had his surgery in 2022 and Ikivercin 2023. Total bill for both was about 2,000, low where. However since I just got the appointment for dental procedure yesterday and the surgery is this Thursday April 9, I’m not sure if I’ll get any money to offset the bill, with such short notice; since they pay the vet directly and the vet will want full payment when I pick her up after her procedure. It’s kinda scary financially because I’ve already spent about 2100 dollars in the 1 1/2 months I’ve had her as the pet insurance refused to pay for two of her claims saying they were pre existing. They did thankfully pay for the cardiology…[Read more]

      Berni,
I’m glad to hear that Annie doesn’t have C. Cats are interesting creatures and manage to hide things real well. My Sebastian went from appropriate kidney values for his age in late July, 2025 to stage 4 kidney failure 6 months later. I will continue to pray for you and Annie.

        Happy heavenly birthday, Oliver!
It’s hard to believe that one year ago today Sebastian and I had to suddenly say goodbye to you. This picture was taken in the morning the day before I said goodbye to you. We were both enjoying some one-on-one lap time together, then about six hours later you apparently through an undiagnosed blood clot. I know your last hours before you crossed the rainbow bridge were agonizingly painful for both you and I. I’m sorry for that. I know you’ve long forgotten that pain and trauma, but it’s not something I will soon forget. I miss you so much Oliver and your sweet brother Sebastian, who died almost 10 months to the day I had to say goodbye to you suddenly and unexpectedly too. Like you he appeared fine one day and the next he was quickly going downhill. I’m glad the two of you are once again reunited and I look forward to the day When I will once again be reunited with you both, along with Kovu, Morgaine, Eragon, Spirit, Autumn Ranger,Saraya, Kalina, and Freyja. I’m trying to focus and remember the good times we had together rather than the painful goodbye so I want to share one of my favorite memories of you. When I went to do my pre-adoption visit with you and Sebastian at the SPCA. The staff suggested I do a crate visit with you both as your brother was so frightened and timid. You were sitting protectively in front of your brother, who was as far back in the crate as he could get. When I reached my arm into Pet you both, you immediately placed your paw over my arm and began to lick my hand. I knew at that point that we were meant to be, and that you Oliver had chosen to adopt me as your new human mom for you and your brother. While writing this makes me feel sad, the memory also brings much joy to my heart, knowing that I was able to provide a loving forever home to you and Sebastian, even if the time I had with both of you was way too short.
        • Suzanne, I am so sorry for your loss of Oliver 💔 Anniversaries are hard, especially the first one. The memory of that day is still very fresh in your mind.
I’m sending you warm, comforting hugs and wishing you peace on this very sad anniversary day. 💔
          • Thank you Maureen!

Thank you Toni, you are a genius! I called the vet today because needed to see if I was able to get more Nausea Meds, for Kaylanee, as Wednesday’s seem to be the day she likes to give me back all her food, and heaven forbid, she throw up on the floor vs., the carpet! So gonna start being proactive and giving her nausea meds Wednesday morning with her breakfast. Any way while talking to the receptionist, I asked if I could get a vet tech appointment for April 2, after seeing the cardiologist, success! I have one about 30 minutes after I finish with the cardiologist. The Cardiologist, is unable to do it because, she’s not an official vet at this practice, she just sees patients there 1/2 x per week. THANK YOU, however, Toni for the suggestion. Ironically enough despite giving me back all her supper and than some last night, she thankfully didn’t turn down the second churro, I put her nausea meds in and she lapped it all up. I just crushed it and mixed it in. It was funny to watch her however, because she knew it tasted different. Today she’s back to eating, like normal. 😁

              Kaylanee update:
I got off the phone with my vet about an hour ago. The good news is he didn’t see anything serious. He did notice, thickening of the intestinal wall. I’ve got a vet tech appointment on 4/17 for a blood test that needs to be sent to Texas AM, that will let us know if it is irritable bowel syndrome or possible pancreatic issues? I’ve been down this road before for this particular blood test as Oliver had to have it once a year for his IBD. If that fails to produce any results, then there’s some other tests that we will look into providing the insurance company will cover all of her health challenges. In the mean time I will keep her strictly on the Hills Biome diet, as it’s for gastrointestinal issues, which thankfully she’s eating. She also gained a 1/4 lb which is good too. Now I just need to hope and pray the insurance covers all of this and doesn’t find an excuse to tell me it’s a preexisting condition, which technically they shouldn’t since all her pre illness blood work came back good. Her next appointment is 4/2 with the cardiologist. I’m not to concerned with this appointment, as the vet said it wasn’t urgent for her to see the cardiologist , as her heart blood test was just a little elevated but I wanted it sooner rather than later, so hopefully she will be cleared for her much needed dental surgery. While I’m still not sure exactly what’s wrong with Kaylanee, I feel hopeful, that I will be able to spoil her for a good long time, since she was rescued from an abuse situation.

              • Can the cardiologist do the blood work on the 2nd? It sounds as if Kaylanee is doing better and I hope that continues. Can you ask the doctors for help with the insurance company if you get resistance from them? Keep us posted.😻

                      Leslie,
I’m so very sorry to hear about your boyfriend’s passing and now you face the pending loss of his beloved dog. The waiting and worrying is almost worse, at least for me, than the actual having to say goodbye bye to my beloved fur babies. I’ve been on that emotional roller coaster way too much over this past year and deeply feel your pain. Holding you and your dog in prayer and praying that you may feel God’s loving healing embrace.

Kaylanee’s ultrasound with the internal medicine doctor went well. She did well and thankfully was cooperative. Shes’s definitely a much better patient than I am. I was a nervous wreck all morning waiting for the vet to call me, so I’d be able to go pick her up. While I may not have the results of the ultrasound, until Friday, possibly sooner, it depends on how many ultrasounds he did today and how many reports he then has to write up to send to individual vets, I’m feeling a lot less stressed, as she’s back home with me and acting her usual friendly self. I will update everyone on the results, when I hear from my vet.

Tomorrow Kaylanee goes to the internal medicine vet, for her abdominal ultrasound. I’m preparing for the worst but hoping and praying for the best. Thankfully she’s doing reasonably well since I had to take her into the vet on 3/13 for an emergency visit. She’s eating like she’s starving and thankfully no digestive issues. She also loves hanging out on my shoulder when I’m sitting and walking around.

                          Bernie,
I just wanted you to know I’m thinking of you and hope the appointment you had today with your cat, went well. 🙏🤗

                          • How thoughtful of you, Suzanne. Bernie, please let us know what you find out. 💕Toni
                            • Hi there, I took Annie for her visit today. They did some blood tests and a more localized ultrasound to get a better look at the liver mass. They found that the mass had multiple small cysts and that the aspirate was a clear fluid which is consistent with a benign biliary cystadenoma and that it was an incidental finding and not believed to be the cause of the chronic diarrhea. They also said these kinds of masses can grow slowly over time and may eventually cause clinical signs like vomiting or loss of appetite by compressing the adjacent structures like the stomach & gallbladder. If it were to grow significantly larger, they might consider surgical removal at some point in the future, but they don’t believe that the liver mass itself has anything to do with the chronic diarrhea so basically I’m waiting on the results from the bloodwork and a GI panel for what the next steps would be. Depending on what they find they mentioned that options might include endoscopic or surgical intestinal biopsies, or possibly removal of the mass to prevent further complications. I’ll let you know what they find after I get the results back.
                              • Thanks Suzanne, I appreciate it.
                                • Will continue to pray for you and Annie. I guess on the positive side at least you know doesn’t have liver cancer.
                                  • Berni, I am so happy to hear that Annie is okay and that there is no cancer. Hope they find out what is causing the diarrhea.
                                    • My, Annie is a complicated little girl, isn’t she? If I’m understanding this correctly, if the blood work shows the cause of the diarrhea and it can be treated with antibiotics or some medicine, then we monitor the liver mass. That would be a good outcome. It’s so hard to not know what’s going on, then finding out and determinig what’s best for her. You are a wonderful mother, Berni. Thank you for keeping us posted and please update us. {{HUGS to you, Annie and Andy}}. Toni

While I’m still hurting and greatly feeling his loss, I know he’s in a better place united with his bonded brother Oliver and the many other fur babies I’ve had to say good bye to since the early 2000s. In the past 3 1/2 years alone I’ve said good bye to 7. I still can’t believe Saraya has been gone 3 years this past January and Oliver’s 1st heavenly birthday will be March 29. I try not to focus on their passing but rather on the good memories but sometimes it’s so hard.

My heart is shattered into a million pieces. I unexpectedly had to say good bye to my Sebastian today. . This is the 4th cat I’ve lost in less than a year, all of them sudden and 3 unexpected. Sebastian appeared “normal” at his semi annual wellness exam, on Thursday, then Thursday night Friday, he just stopped eating and drinking and by Sunday was vomiting white foamy liquid to often to count. Got an emergency appointment with my vet at 9:00 this morning and blood work showed Kidney failure, suspected pancreatic cancer and urinalysis showed UTI, very unusual in male cats , among other issues. Doing further tests I was told really wasn’t t going to improve his chances, so I made the heart wrenching but compassionate and right choice to let him go, so he wouldn’t suffer anymore. I’m very thankful, that I had all day Saturday with him, I usually have to dog sit, as we were able to have lots of lap time and cuddle time together. By Sunday he wasn’t interested in being with me very much. Since Sebastian had lost his bonded brother Oliver, last March, he started to become a less timid more self confident cat, who when his younger fur siblings were not around, loved to sit in my lap. I will miss him coming to look for me when I was home when I was home. It was his way of saying why aren’t you sitting? I want to sit on your lap. The photos of Sebastian were taken by me before I let him go. Sebastian, my little lap buddy, the house will be so quiet with out you. You will be dearly missed but now you are reunited with your bonded brother, Oliver, your sweet toothless, gentle, Kalina, who, while she was only with us a short time, I know the two of you developed a special bound. While you and Freyja, much to my chagrin, never really got along, she’ll be there to welcome you too, to Rainbow Bridge! Run free my sweet little Sebastian. Sebastian is the orange/ginger kitty , Kalina is the tiger cat and Freyja, “queen” of the castle is the tuxedo cat.
                                            • Suzanne, this is shocking. We just said goodbye to Kalina on our group call but to lose Sebastian? I am so, so sad and sorry. I sent you a private message inviting you to call me and I hope you do. We are all here for you, with sympathy and support. Sending you my deepest condolences. Toni
                                              • Suzanne, I am so sorry to hear this news about Sebastian and his sudden and unexpected passing. I know it hurts so much to let them go, but you did the right thing by him. All we can do is give them a better life and in turn, they give us joy with all their antics. You will see him again one day. You will see all your babies again one day. Sending you a great big hug during this difficult time. -Diane

Did you pet, embrace, kiss your babies as you whispered goodbye? Clip fur? Were you relieved for them being out of pain and at peace? Can you take your memory of the needle to the next step and go past the immediate moment to the time that followed? It may help to think of it as a brief moment in the total of your times together. I hope othesr in our community will offer you some helpful ideas.
Your commitment to adopt seniors is wonderful🙌, especially as we enter Spring and “kitten season” when older animals are often bypassed. I enjoyed five fabulous years with the 13 year old I adopted, and only five months with my 15 year old. Two of the five week olds I fostered died. There really is no telling how long we have, but we do know you are giving these deserving babies, of any age, a loving home for as long as you are together. That is magnificent of you.
