Today is a very depressing day, but I can close my eyes and see Angel doing her happy dance, her big bushy tail wagging so hard, and her running with such exuberance in circles around me, but I do so miss her. I do have three girls, and I love them to pieces but Angel was definitely my soul dog. I noticed my 18 month old Golden Retriever doing circles in her excitement the other day, something Angel did once in a while, although she was more prone to do a happy dance, her paws dancing out her joy. I will be ok, just trying to work through the depression of her being gone. Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate them. -

Elizabeth, on the 15th, we will be thinking of you and Angel.💔 And you could give Evangelina an extra vanilla wafer from Angel, do you think? And Gabriel, too. By the way, has Evangelina learned some services to help you? I am delighted to hear from you, although not for this reason, but it is good to have your update, and we hope to hear more. Our group meetings begin at 7PM Eastern time, 4 Pacific, the third Thursday of each month. This month we will meet December 21st. You are welcome to join in any time, and leave when you want, but it’s good to come at the beginning to ‘meet’ everyone. You will find kind, caring, understanding friends who welcome and support you. Yes I agree, and Evangelina is good a loving and shaking her little stubby Rottie tail which shakes her entire body. She is very loving to me, but also thinks I am suppose to share all my food and snacks with her, but she has learned when I tell her it is not good for her to stop trying to get me to give her something. She knows that chocolate is something she can not have, and several other items, so she now just lays down and does not beg for them. She does have a big obsession with Vanilla Wafers and I have to watch or she would steal the entire package and eat it all. Not sure what it is about them but she thinks I hung the moon and stars if I give her some vanilla wafers. -

Evangelina is doing fine, and hopefully going to be welcoming a part Husky, part German Shepherd into our home in January. I know how hard it is for you after going through all the things with my Angel, and I know she is better off out of her pain, but she is irreplaceable. Evangelina needs a buddie, as she missed Angel and Gabriel also. I will be training this pup for mobility service work also like Angel was trained for, but know no matter what Angel will always have my heart, I just have to add heart space for this little one, Evangelina has tried to fill the void and is so sweet and loving, just not apt for service work. -

Tomorrow will be a year since my Angel left me. I still miss her as much as if it were yesterday. There is no way to stop missing my best friend, loyal loving companion. Nothing fills the gap she left in my heart.-
Hi Elizabeth. What a charming image you have shared with us. Thank you for that, and for sharing again with us. Your story about Angel and her seizures, and how Gabriel went to join her, still touch me. How is Evangelina doing? I hate to say this but my old girl (she’ll be 18 in March) is now blind and deaf. It makes me think of Angel. Every day I wait and watch for the signs that it’s time to say goodbye but she is eating and seems happy so, while it’s devastatingly hard to see her decline, I am happy she is not suffering, and I cherish every minute with her. Elizabeth, please don’t wait so long to share with us, and please reach out to others here if you like, It means so much. I am delighted to hear from you again, and I hope you and yours have a happy holiday filled with joy, and LOVE.

Not all of us have the same skills or capabilities. Even Canine Companions for Independence – CCI.org – has some dogs that aren’t cut out as service dogs. But every dog is capable of loving and that’s the best skill any of us can have, don’t you think? 🙂

My dog, Prince, with whom I grew up (we got him when he was six weeks old and I was six) lived to 16 on Oreos. Now, some people would be appalled by that, but hey, it worked for Prince, so I am not one to judge Evangelina and Vanilla Wafers 🙂

Hi Toni, Angel had a stroke about 5 months prior to Dec 15. It went from bad to worse as she then started having violent seizures which caused her ability to walk, caused her to lose her sight. I had her on homeopathic belladonna right after the first seizures, and for a little while it seemed to straighten her out some before she took a nose dive and lost her sight. I had to decide what was best for her, and I just could not see my beautiful, vibrant Angel girl suffering anymore from the seizures, so confused because she could not see, unable to get around without my help, and she was not only my best friend, and my mobility service dog, she was the VERY beat of my heart. Her and Gabriel had never been apart from the time he was 4 months old and she was 6 weeks, so he lost all will to live without her, and the night he passed, I had been cuddling him on my bed, he wanted down, acted like he wanted to potty and he could use the potty pads, so I put him In the floor which he… -

Remember 5 years, 6 months agoOh how I miss my precious Angel, and her and my little buddy Gabriel that followed her 4 days later. Angel was the best of my heart and Gabriel my clown and trouble instigator that could turn a frown into a day of laughter.

Elizabeth, what a lovely tribute you have made to Angel and Gabriel. I feel as if I know them each a bit with what you wrote. Did something happen that they both passed within four days? I see they lived full lives, and that shows how much, and well, you cared for them. Thank you for sharing with us.
