Tomorrow will be a year since my Angel left me. I still miss her as much as if it were yesterday. There is no way to stop missing my best friend, loyal loving companion. Nothing fills the gap she left in my heart.-
Hi Elizabeth. What a charming image you have shared with us. Thank you for that, and for sharing again with us. Your story about Angel and her seizures, and how Gabriel went to join her, still touch me. How is Evangelina doing? I hate to say this but my old girl (she’ll be 18 in March) is now blind and deaf. It makes me think of Angel. Every day I wait and watch for the signs that it’s time to say goodbye but she is eating and seems happy so, while it’s devastatingly hard to see her decline, I am happy she is not suffering, and I cherish every minute with her. Elizabeth, please don’t wait so long to share with us, and please reach out to others here if you like, It means so much. I am delighted to hear from you again, and I hope you and yours have a happy holiday filled with joy, and LOVE. -
Evangelina is doing fine, and hopefully going to be welcoming a part Husky, part German Shepherd into our home in January. I know how hard it is for you after going through all the things with my Angel, and I know she is better off out of her pain, but she is irreplaceable. Evangelina needs a buddie, as she missed Angel and Gabriel also. I will be training this pup for mobility service work also like Angel was trained for, but know no matter what Angel will always have my heart, I just have to add heart space for this little one, Evangelina has tried to fill the void and is so sweet and loving, just not apt for service work.

Not all of us have the same skills or capabilities. Even Canine Companions for Independence – CCI.org – has some dogs that aren’t cut out as service dogs. But every dog is capable of loving and that’s the best skill any of us can have, don’t you think? 🙂

Yes I agree, and Evangelina is good a loving and shaking her little stubby Rottie tail which shakes her entire body. She is very loving to me, but also thinks I am suppose to share all my food and snacks with her, but she has learned when I tell her it is not good for her to stop trying to get me to give her something. She knows that chocolate is something she can not have, and several other items, so she now just lays down and does not beg for them. She does have a big obsession with Vanilla Wafers and I have to watch or she would steal the entire package and eat it all. Not sure what it is about them but she thinks I hung the moon and stars if I give her some vanilla wafers.

My dog, Prince, with whom I grew up (we got him when he was six weeks old and I was six) lived to 16 on Oreos. Now, some people would be appalled by that, but hey, it worked for Prince, so I am not one to judge Evangelina and Vanilla Wafers 🙂
