Mak did Fly away almost 6yrs ago. Sometimes in the winter we put them outside especially if it\’s nice and warm so they can have some natural sunlight not just the uvv bulbs. When my husband went to bring him in something startled him and he flew . We\’ve searched and searched but found nothing. Posted flyers as well, we really do believe someone has him, and just doesn\’t want to return him.-
I’ll be that’s what happened. They probably thought he was homeless and took him in. Maybe one day he’ll come waltzing back !! How are you doing, Martha? How is little Mae? -

When we last met I spoke of the others lost. Top is Dot 10 yrs when she left us, left to right is Spud 17 yrs, Mak was lost we hope he still lives and just isn\’t returned, Grumpy 11yrs, and of course my girl Raina 10yrs. My daughter putt the collage together.-
Martha, what a menagerie. How wonderful. Is Mak missing? What do you think happened? Did he fly away do you think? How awful not to know. I hope he’s okay and please let us know if you find out anything. Raina and Mae look alike somewhat, don’t they? I’m so happy you and your family have Mae with you now. You are very kind to give care and love to so many. {HUG}

Our Granddaughter and Mae, she\’s showing the book to Mae, and trying to teach her words. While this is cute I remember when she would put plates of her toy food in front of Raina and sit and play with her as well. -

I made it through Christmas and New Year. I still cry, I also still can\’t talk about her without crying. We are now raising our Granddaughter, she\’s two and I know she doesn\’t understand why I sometimes cry. She was with us the night we lost Raina but I\’m sure she doesn\’t remember.
She and Mae play together it\’s funny to watch. The picture is of Mae waiting for our Granddaughter to get out of the bathtub.-
That’s quite a position Mae has there. :-). Oh those darn holidays, Martha – they can really trigger the memories and tears. When you talk about Raina, I hope you are recalling the good and fun stuff, and that brings you some smiles and laughter. Keep at it, you’ll get through with Mae and your family’s help. And we are always here for you with understanding so let us know how you are. {{HUGS}}

I decided to honor my beautiful Raina with an ornament on our tree.I cried when making it and cried again when I hung it on the tree.-
Oh Martha, these mementos are supposed to carry our memories and emotions. That’s why they have meaning to us. It’s beautiful and the fact that you poured your love into it makes it very special. Show us a picture of it hanging in your tree, please. And some photos of Raina. Thank you for sharing your memories and feelings with us. {BIG HUGS}

I\’m dreading this holiday season. While I normally love Christmas I\’m finding myself struggling with Raina not being here.
While I do love Mae it just won\’t be the same.
Some photos of my girl during Christmas and the snow.-
Martha, many of us here are facing our first holiday season without our beloved companions. So many memories are stirred on holidays, hopefully happy ones, but there is a profound sense of loss, too. I’d like to share ideas for coping through the season in our group gathering this evening. The link is below. If you can’t join us there, let’s share thoughts here in the community. Raina’s spirit will always be with you, and I hope you find comfort knowing she had a wonderful life with you and is now comfortable. {{HUGS}} Toni

Photos of my beautiful Raina have popped up on my Facebook feed. Even though I have Mae I still cry. I still miss her even after 3 months. These are Mae photos at 4 months old. I just realized that Mae was born in May and so was Raina, only a few days apart. Of course 10 years an 10 days. Raina was born May 27, 2013, Mae was born May 17, 2022.

How cute, Martha. Did Raina like getting in the water? Three months is not very long to mourn her and you’ll never know what might trigger a lot of emotion. You and I are facing our first holidays without our beloveds and I bet we both have very emotional times throughout those. You just made me think of that so let’s check in with each other here. I cry sometimes looking at her pictures and she’s been gone since February, so do move through your emotions and share with us – it helps. And please share more videos and photos with us, including Mae – we like to celebrate our pets, too! Did you know we are on Facebook: MYFaithfulfriends and Instagram: 1Faithfulfriends. If you would like to share this darling video there too, please do. Join us this Thursday Sept. 22nd at 8 PM Eastern on our Group Meeting on Zoom. Here’s the link:

Here’s an update with Mae. She is doing well, we are working on leash training, she already knows sit, and drop it. Still having issues with the potty training,so we are trying something different. She’s a handful. I do still think about Raina, sometimes/ most of the time there are still tears. While Mae keeps me busy, when she’s asleep is when the memories of Raina hit.

She is also a rottweiler she will be as big as Raina. No broom or vacuum in my house is safe, she attacks them all. She watches our birds with interest, and tackled a chicken today. Neither she or the chicken were hurt.
Although I still cry because there are things she does that are so like things Raina did. Like snorkeling in the dog pool.-
Gawd, she is just sooo cute, and has settled in nicely. Raina will always be with you, so don’t feel bad about ways in which they are alike – enjoy the newness and building another life, and love together. I am still so sorry about Raina….I miss my girl too, but am glad she is not failing anymore. I hope you take comfort in that for Raina, and truly pour yourself into this new fun! Keep sending pics and tales ๐

What my husband didn’t tell me was our trip was to pick up this little girl. Our friends dog had puppies, when they heard Raina passed, they offered one of their females to my husband for me. I didn’t know about it until it we got there, and was surrounded by puppies. Seems she picked me, of all of them she was the one who came over to play with me. She is such a cute bundle of energy. She was born in May so we gave her the name Mae, not original but we thought it fitting. I do still cry occasionally during the day, but my tears are licked away.

Oh my, Martha…Mae is too cute. I’m smiling and laughing just looking at her. How very kind of your friends and husband. You have to share stories and photos or videos of Mae with us. We know she is not a “replacement” for Raina, she is her own pup and you will have a special loving relationship with her, too. We are all so delighted for you, and to have Mae as a new community member :-)…..here’s a {{smooch}} from me :-).Toni

Thank you, yes today is hard. I had pictures as memories come up in my Facebook feed. It feels like my heart is breaking all over again. We are taking a trip this weekend because my husband seems to think it I’ll be good for me. All I can think of is a trip without her. -

It’s hard, these last couple of days. The 20th is a month since she passed. Seems the closer we get to it the harder it is for me. I have been trying to find another dog to be my service dog. Found one at the shelter, but he has chosen my husband instead. Then there’s the guilt I feel because it feels like I’m betraying her memory. -

Yes th8s is Raina. I had her since she was 8 weeks old. My daughter brought her home and we fell in love. She was my service dog/ friend and constant companion. When she was 6 months old, I started looking for a service dog, I had multiple back surgeries and stumble when I walk. My Mom picked her for my service dog before she passed because she was calm and well behaved. So, together we made the journey of training, she was so wonderful and easy to train. She had gotten hurt about three weeks before she passed, sprained her ankle. There was no warning that day she went from being normal to panting heavily, to non responsive when we got her to vet. I keep thinking I missed something. She was only 10 we were supposed to have more years. -

On 6/20/ 2022 I lost my beautiful baby, my heart.-
Oh Martha, this must be Raina. What a beauty. I am very sorry for your loss. How did you meet? How long were you together? Please tell us about Raina and your lives together – we really do want to know. And, we want you to feel welcome and safe sharing your stories and feelings with us. It hasn’t been very long and I know it hurts so very deeply. I share a tear and a {{HUG}} with you. Toni

That’s shocking, Martha. But, I wonder if there was something going on for poor Raina and I know you’ve gone through all the “what if’s” and “woulda, coulda, shoulda” but there was something wrong for her to become non-responsive, and it was most likely best for her to exit comfortably rather than suffer. I guess we’ll never really know that part, but you will always know she shared a very kind and loving life with you. It is so terribly hard and hurtful to not have them with us, the house, and our hearts are just so empty….. we are here to go through this with you, hope to hear more from you, and are thinking of you.
You are very welcome to join our Group meeting July 21st at 8 PM Eastern (5 Pacific) to share with us. Here’s the link:Join Zoom Meeting

Oh Dear,,, may I ask you this? If you died, would you want your survivor to feel guilty for giving another a happy, healthy, loving home, or encourage them to open their home and heart to another? I bet you would want the latter, and Raina’s life with you will never be diminished by your loving again – that’s just not possible- in fact, it verifies how much you and she shared, that you can and want to do it again.
Ah yes, they do “choose” us, don’t they? I’ve fostered sick cats and when I met my Beauty Girl there was no question we were destined for each other. I miss her every day and am always grateful for her being in my life. Martha, you will meet another and you will feel a lot of love, especially because Raina shared so much with you. It’s only been a very short time since you parted and the grief is deep and strong. Please give yourself some room to move through all of this. You can find resources for service dogs in our “Find Services” tab. Put in your area and use the drop-down menu.
Please keep us updated and on the 20th, we will mourn, and celebrate, with you. I hope his {{HUG}} gives you a little comfort. Toni
