I felt the same way when Drake passed. He was barely 10. Just didn’t seem like enough time. Hugs.

I know I’ve been missing for a bit since I lost my dear boy Drake, but that’s only because we decided to rescue this sweet boy and OMG puppies are busy little things!!! But everyone meet Fezziwig. He hasn’t quite filled the hole left by Drake, but he sure does make it a bit easier.
        • Marybeth, you nailed it. No one “replaces” another. But boy does a good Fezziwig heal our hearts and fill the empty spaces. Too, too cute. Thank you for the smiles, and hope, you are sharing with us here. It means so much to have the understanding and support of our community members. I hope to hear much more from you, and see pictures of your life with adorable Fezziwig. Oh, and how did he come by that name??!! Toni

Friday was a beautiful day. We cuddled. We ate fries. Got dressed up for family pictures. Actually laid in our own bed. And finished the day off be cleaning out a mostly empty peanut butter jar. He was definitely sent off in style. Saturday we said goodbye. I’m still waiting for that relief that everyone keeps talking about. All I can think of right now is how lonely my office is without him. I’m sure it gets easier. Just not today.
          • It sounds like Drake had the best day ever! I’m glad you were able to spend the weekend with your family. ❤️
            • Marybeth, I am crying for, and with you. I have thought of you, Drake and your family every day. What a lovely and loving gift of joy and sharing you all gave Drake. Here’s what I know- in our heads we know Drake is at peace, out of pain and you shared a wonderful life together. In our hearts, it’s painful, lonely, the house is empty. It takes time, yes, and you will find smiles before your tears. We are here for you with caring and understanding. I hope you will keep us updated on how you are all doing, and that you might join our online group meeting October 20th at 8pm Eastern. The link will be in that week’s email, and posted here.
Also, please create a lasting memorial to Drake. It’s only $10. and I find it helpful to have one for my Beauty Girl (who died in February). https://www.faithfulfriends.com/memorials/
You are in my thoughts. {{HUGS}} Toni
              • I can tell he felt that love. Thank you for telling us about him. You and your family are in my heart this morning.

Thanks Toni. It’s been a rough week indeed. But I’m soaking up every moment I possibly can. I super appreciate your concern. I’m not looking forward to this weekend at all and I’m hoping my heart can handle what is to come.

                  Toni and Suzanne,

Thank you so much for your kind words. They meant a lot. We do have a special day planned, all my children who are grown are spending the night after my son’s senior pictures and we are going to hang out with Drake. Then in the morning he will pass peacefully in his favorite room in the house … our 3 season porch. We are planning to have his ashes turned into a planter that sprouts wildflowers so we can see them and remember him fondly each year. Then I am having a paw print and photo framed to place in my office. I really love the pet canvas idea too! I will definitely look into it. He’d make a very handsome portrait.

And thank you for this site. It is a great comfort during this difficult time!

                  Marybeth

This super good boy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last month and has been on the struggle bus since. Last week we made the decision that we will be putting him to rest on October 1st (As my son wants him in his senior pictures first) and I am so not looking forward to that day. He’s only 10 and I was so sure I’d have more time with him! Life has been quite sad since the diagnosis, but I am soaking up every moment with him until his time is here. I referred to him as my “puppy immersion therapy” when we adopted him and he has been there for me in innumerable ways. My heart is just in a million pieces over all this. Glad a coworker recommended this group. Any kind words would be very welcomed.

                        • Marybeth,
I’m so sorry for you and your family during this difficult and painful time. It’s never easy to say good bye to a beloved fur baby. I myself know I lost my Spirit and Autumn Ranger within less then two months of each other both passed from Thyroid and Kidney disease. Hopefully in the remaining weeks that you have with this dear sweet boy, you and your family can create some wonderful memories with him. Maybe even create a bucket list of things you’d like to do with him, if he’s not in to much pain, to create wonderful and lasting memories. I think it’s very touching that your son sees this precious boy as part of the family and wants to have him included in his Senior pictures. That says a lot about your son and the wonderful young man he must be. Holding you all in prayer at this difficult and painful time.
                          • Marybeth, I am so very sorry for what you are anticipating. Our community is here to support you because every one of us has suffered the loss of a beloved pet, and we will be here for you. I found a stuffed toy really helped me – my girl slept tucked under my chin and having the toy there in her place was a big comfort. (You can contact Cuddle Clones by clicking the link on the right side of this page).
Knowing Drake is unwell gives you time to prepare, and to make every moment extra special. My girl was very unwell and I knew in my head it was a relief and release for her to pass peacefully, but in my heart the pain was deep. We have to always do what is best for our babies and sadly, saying goodbye is sometimes the best choice for them. Perhaps you would like to have a memorial service for his family and friends, or a party before you say goodbye so everyone can shower him, and you, with love. Whatever you choose, please let us know how you are all doing. If you need an urn or keepsake, you can find a lot of lovely, many personalized, memorial items in our shop. I clipped a bit of fur from my beauty and keep that, along with a canvas of her I had made. I talk to her and pet that every day and it makes me feel better. https://www.faithfulfriends.com/shop/custom-pet-canvas/
We’re researching the issue with photos and it seems that iPhones don’t allow direct uploads, so you can save as jpg and upload from that. Please let us know if you need help.
And Marybeth, please stay in touch with us. We will be thinking of you and sending our strength. Toni
