Health Concerns 3 years, 10 months agoThis super good boy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last month and has been on the struggle bus since. Last week we made the decision that we will be putting him to rest on October 1st (As my son wants him in his senior pictures first) and I am so not looking forward to that day. He’s only 10 and I was so sure I’d have more time with him! Life has been quite sad since the diagnosis, but I am soaking up every moment with him until his time is here. I referred to him as my “puppy immersion therapy” when we adopted him and he has been there for me in innumerable ways. My heart is just in a million pieces over all this. Glad a coworker recommended this group. Any kind words would be very welcomed.

Health Concerns 5 years, 2 months agoI may need to rehome some of my cats. Please show me how. This hurts. Will they be ok.? I may have to move n no one may want a senior with 7 cats n a dog. 🥺

Margaret, I am sorry you face such a difficult decision. I know it hurts terribly to be parted. Since you have to find new homes, here is a useful resource: Go to the “Find Services” tab at the top of this page; enter your zip code; use the drop-down menu to find Rescues & Shelters in your area. If you need more help, let me know. And please let us know what happens with your babies. They will be matched with loving homes, I am sure. Sending you my best wishes.

Health Concerns 5 years, 5 months agoSorry for late up date but thor is doing good no crystals in his urine no infection no bacteria so since doc considered him to be back in full health i had all his shots done so at least he is now protected agents any thing mutch worse he goes back in a month for his booster

Health Concerns 5 years, 5 months agoI had the pleasure of speaking with Toni about Faithful Friends and thought that I would share about Lacey, my Mini Goldendoodle. Lacey is currently 5 and has suffered from chronic ear infections since she was a baby. After years of trying new ear drops, switching out her food, and experimenting with a variety of dog allergy medications, her new vet told us that she had an infected ear canal due to a ruptured ear drum. We are unsure whether this was the issue from the beginning and it had simply gone undiagnosed, or if it had onset sometime between her vet appointments. After a course of antibiotics and a couple days in the cone (which she HATED), she\’s clearly feeling so much better. Since the reoccurrence of ear infections in dogs is often attributed to allergies, I would suggest ensuring that your vet has ruled out a ruptured ear drum if your doggy is in a similar position. Although this might not apply to every situation, hopefully it reaches someone and saves a dog from years of ear pain.-

Thank you for sharing this important information and spreading your awareness of what I suspect happens more than we know. It’s why I shared the story that high blood pressure can cause blindness. Poor Lacey and “the cone of shame”…. But how wonderful for you all that you found out what was wrong and addressed it. Let us know what you two get up to :-).

Health Concerns 5 years, 7 months agoHow can I get over the lost of my dog Peanut after having him since he was ten weeks old and he was three years old.My other dogs and cats are graving still and we lost the dog yesterday.

Crystal, is your dog adopted? Perhaps it suffered a trauma that still upsets it. I am very friendly with a delightful Westie who must have had her tail run over by a vehicle because she goes nuts when a vehicle goes by. We have some veterinary professionals in our community who may be able to answer your concern. Let’s see if we can get some people to respond. Also, you can search and find resources in our “Find Services” tab. The drop-down menu lists different services and if you put in your zip code you can find them in your area. I’m hoping some of our members have ideas for you.

Wow never had any of my cats do that, Thanks for the share! My black cat likes to lick his brother and then chew on him. Sometimes I have to stop it, he gets too aggressive with him.

I’m so sorry for you and your family during this difficult and painful time. It’s never easy to say good bye to a beloved fur baby. I myself know I lost my Spirit and Autumn Ranger within less then two months of each other both passed from Thyroid and Kidney disease. Hopefully in the remaining weeks that you have with this dear sweet boy, you and your family can create some wonderful memories with him. Maybe even create a bucket list of things you’d like to do with him, if he’s not in to much pain, to create wonderful and lasting memories. I think it’s very touching that your son sees this precious boy as part of the family and wants to have him included in his Senior pictures. That says a lot about your son and the wonderful young man he must be. Holding you all in prayer at this difficult and painful time.
Knowing Drake is unwell gives you time to prepare, and to make every moment extra special. My girl was very unwell and I knew in my head it was a relief and release for her to pass peacefully, but in my heart the pain was deep. We have to always do what is best for our babies and sadly, saying goodbye is sometimes the best choice for them. Perhaps you would like to have a memorial service for his family and friends, or a party before you say goodbye so everyone can shower him, and you, with love. Whatever you choose, please let us know how you are all doing. If you need an urn or keepsake, you can find a lot of lovely, many personalized, memorial items in our shop. I clipped a bit of fur from my beauty and keep that, along with a canvas of her I had made. Thank you so much for your kind words. They meant a lot. We do have a special day planned, all my children who are grown are spending the night after my son’s senior pictures and we are going to hang out with Drake. Then in the morning he will pass peacefully in his favorite room in the house … our 3 season porch. We are planning to have his ashes turned into a planter that sprouts wildflowers so we can see them and remember him fondly each year. Then I am having a paw print and photo framed to place in my office. I really love the pet canvas idea too! I will definitely look into it. He’d make a very handsome portrait.
And thank you for this site. It is a great comfort during this difficult time!
