You have a kind husband. He, and you, and we, know you carry Raina with you in your heart, soul and thoughts. You’re not “escaping”, you are opening yourselves to new smells, colors, events and environments by going elsewhere and I hope it does you all good – think it will. Getting out of our heads and homes can help a lot. And I think you should allow yourself to cry when you need to, and maybe bring something of hers along, to hold and comfort you ???? Martha, this takes time, and I hope a change of place will allow you and your husband to be present in those moments together. Please, let us know how it’s going, or how it went. It may help others to hear about it. I’ll definitely be thinking of you. Toni

I still got a few tears looking at her picture. Her color looks so much lighter in this one! How is your son holding up? You, and he, are welcome to join our Group tomorrow (Thursday July 21st) at 8PM Eastern. It’s good to talk about it and share if you like.

Trinity has only had wings for a short time and she will always be with you in your thoughts and hearts. I hope in time your memories will bring smiles before tears. You and your son may find comfort in creating a memorial to her: https://www.faithfulfriends.com/memorials/

I am glad to hear from you and hope you will keep us updated about how you are all doing. We’re here for. Toni

Carmelina, do not do anything for which you are not ready. It’s a big thing to bring another into your home and heart and there’s no telling when you may be ready again. I had Boots for a few months after my BG died and he really helped me recover from that (I still miss her terribly and grieve, but with joy and less pain for sure), but Boots went back to his lady and I am not ready for another relationship now either. I know someone who lost her beloved dog over twenty years ago and is just now opening herself to another loving pet relationship. I feel bad for her that the fear of loss denied her the many joys of pet partnering for all these years, but I certainly understand, and it is totally up to us when, or if, we can share again. So my dear friend, we support you in every way and remain here for you to share with us as you move forward. If you can join us tomorrow, great! But if not, know we’ll be thinking of you. We won’t meet in August so let’s plan on an August group get together. Here’s another {{HUG}} for you, Carmelina :-). Toni
OH! Maybe you will find comfort sharing your own kind understanding and support with others here in our community who are hurting. Just scroll through and post your caring thoughts if you like.

Regina, that is so tough – so much loss and sadness, and in such a short time. You must be aching and empty, and emotionally exhausted. What are you doing to take care of yourself? I hope knowing we are here for you brings you some comfort. Please let us know how you are. I’ll be thinking of you. Toni

@msurber15 Hi Martha. I know today is a terribly hard day for you. This past month has been so very sad and painful with Raina’s parting. We are thinking of you with sincere sympathy, and send you our support. Toni

                • Thank you, yes today is hard. I had pictures as memories come up in my Facebook feed. It feels like my heart is breaking all over again. We are taking a trip this weekend because my husband seems to think it I’ll be good for me. All I can think of is a trip without her.

Thanks for keeping us updated-I think about everyone who shares in our community and we love to hear good, happy news. Give her a treat for me please. And thank you for your kindness in supporting others. {{HUGS}} Toni

Oh Dear,,, may I ask you this? If you died, would you want your survivor to feel guilty for giving another a happy, healthy, loving home, or encourage them to open their home and heart to another? I bet you would want the latter, and Raina’s life with you will never be diminished by your loving again – that’s just not possible- in fact, it verifies how much you and she shared, that you can and want to do it again.
Ah yes, they do “choose” us, don’t they? I’ve fostered sick cats and when I met my Beauty Girl there was no question we were destined for each other. I miss her every day and am always grateful for her being in my life. Martha, you will meet another and you will feel a lot of love, especially because Raina shared so much with you. It’s only been a very short time since you parted and the grief is deep and strong. Please give yourself some room to move through all of this. You can find resources for service dogs in our “Find Services” tab. Put in your area and use the drop-down menu.
Please keep us updated and on the 20th, we will mourn, and celebrate, with you. I hope his {{HUG}} gives you a little comfort. Toni

That’s shocking, Martha. But, I wonder if there was something going on for poor Raina and I know you’ve gone through all the “what if’s” and “woulda, coulda, shoulda” but there was something wrong for her to become non-responsive, and it was most likely best for her to exit comfortably rather than suffer. I guess we’ll never really know that part, but you will always know she shared a very kind and loving life with you. It is so terribly hard and hurtful to not have them with us, the house, and our hearts are just so empty….. we are here to go through this with you, hope to hear more from you, and are thinking of you.
You are very welcome to join our Group meeting July 21st at 8 PM Eastern (5 Pacific) to share with us. Here’s the link:

Oh Martha, this must be Raina. What a beauty. I am very sorry for your loss. How did you meet? How long were you together? Please tell us about Raina and your lives together – we really do want to know. And, we want you to feel welcome and safe sharing your stories and feelings with us. It hasn’t been very long and I know it hurts so very deeply. I share a tear and a {{HUG}} with you. Toni

Trinity was so beautiful, it brings a tear to know you had to part. The most generous, selfless, loving gesture we have to make is letting them go, to provide relief and release. It’s always what is best for them, and I hope you and your son will know that your final act of kindness, made with LOVE, was a gift for Trinity. The grief is deep and takes time to move through. I know you will comfort each other and that one day you will find smiles before tears with her memories. Right now, it hurts at a cellular level and you can shed your tears and share your feelings with us. I am so very sorry. Maybe this {{HUG}} will help just a bit. Toni
