Remember 4 years, 7 months agoAugust 9, 5 months ago yesterday, I lost my sweet baby girl Chloe. She was my heart and soul. She was was a tiny girl,
4 lb and deaf from birth. Only 6 years old. My heart was not ready to say goodbye…. Still heart broken…-
Oh Jeri, Chloe was so darn cute. Hard to believe she was deaf with those big ears! My old cat has become deaf and blind this year, but she’s getting around okay. I don’t think it’s been very long since you and Chloe parted, so I hope you are kind to yourself and know you can grieve and share with us. I’m sending you a big {{HUG}}
-
I am so sorry for your loss of Chloe. Five months go I lost my precious Missy. It is so difficult. Please be patient with yourself and know that others care. Hugs and prayers.
-
5 months, Because she deaf she was basically with all the time. She was little, so she wanted be carried or in your lap always. I miss her so much. Can’t seem to stop tears… she died such a horrible death.
-
What happened to poor little Chloe?
-
This past summer after many tests, we discovered she had a liver shunt, plus Microvascular dysphasia of the liver, gallbladder stones and bladder stones. Her attacks with the liver shunt were coming closer and closer together. They told us she needed to have corrective surgery for the liver shunt. We had it done on Aug 6. , Friday, we brought her home Saturday. Sunday we were rushing her back to the hospital at noon. She was having Grand Mall seizures. They worked through the night to get them under control, when we came back on Monday morning, my poor baby girl was brain damaged and her eyes were just blinking and legs going, she didn’t even know we were there.. it was a horrible death for my sweet baby. I can’t for get it out of my head and heart… even though she didn’t feel good at the end she was always such a happy and loveable little girl. God I miss her..
-
Jeri, this is a terrible story and was a horrific time for all of you. Poor little Chloe. She was so lucky to have you provide such care and love. Sometimes there’s just nothing for it and exiting this world is a welcome gift. That’s what happened for Chloe. Of course you can’t forget it because of the way you saw her, but I suspect she was not aware after the seizures and brain event. One of the absolutely magnificent things about our pets is their stoicism, they don’t complain, and I try to take inspiration from them and follow suit. There is no time line or prescribed way to grieve, and it’s totally okay to laugh and smile with her memories as you move through. I an here, as is the community, so stay in close touch. I’d love to see some more pictures if you would share them? Here’s is a {{HUG}} as big as Chloe’s ears 🙂
-
Thank you for your kind words, I just have to find a way to work through this. I’m reading some books now to try and help me. I’ve had other pets pass, but she’s been so very hard for me.
-
Jeri, we have a book/journal in our shop: https://www.faithfulfriends.com/shop/griffins-heart-pet-loss-book/
It was written by Reagan Pasternak – perhaps you know her from her career as an actress – who created it to help her through her own grief of losing her most beloved Griffin. Some of our members have found it helpful, and you may too. We also have a pet grief counselor available if you would like to speak with him:
https://heartfeltfarewells.com/
Of course, we are all here for, and with you, to share your feelings. We get it. We understand. We care. Let us know how you are doing, Jeri.

Remember 4 years, 7 months agoMY HEART, MY SOUL, MY EVERYTHING. LOVE YOU ❤ FOREVER SNICKERS-
That’s a lovely, touching tribute to Snickers, Lori. What a cutie. In what part of the world was this picture taken? I see lots of birds! Did Snickers swim?
-
It’s In New York and a big NO for swimming. In fact Snickers hated to go out for walks in the rain. How I miss fighting with him to go out in the rain. I miss him so much Toni. I just can’t stop crying
-
It’s okay, Lori. You can cry with us. I know I do many days in anticipation of my girl dying – she’ blind again, and deaf, and with her other health challenges, it is gut wrenching because she is so sweet, never complains and is getting around fine. What troopers they are! At the first sign of distress or discomfort, I will gift her release, but she’s loving and purring, and thankfully mostly oblivious to what to me is just so, so hard to see, and she seems to be doing well …. so, you get through your grief with us, and remember it hasn’t been long for you.
We have a “Paw’d Cast” with Reagan Pasternak, the author of the book/journal “Griffin’s Heart” you may want to listen to. Click the purple microphone at the top right of this page. Reagan had a very hard time grieving her beloved Griffin, so created a way to move through her grief with her book. Take a listen and let us know if that helps you. We’re all thinking of you with understanding and care… -
Lori, I am so sorry about your dear Snickers. I understand completely. It has now been five months since my precious Missy left me. I haven’t been able to get through a day without dissolving into a puddle of tears. Please know that I am praying 🙏🙏🙏 for you
-
Thank you so much Martha. Snickers was my whole world. I just need to know he is at peace and does not hate me for making the hardest decision I ever had to make. Seeing him not eat for a month was killing me and him going off on his own and sleeping more and more. My mind tells me I did the right thing but my heart is not there. I miss him so much. Your Missy looks so adorable. Hopefully they are running around together ❤
-
Picture perfect. My deepest sympathies for the loss of Snickers.

It’s only been a few weeks, Lori, and we certainly understand the depth of your sorrow. Your tears are coming from a part of your soul and it takes time to find joy in your memories. You will. But for now, please allow yourself to move at your own speed toward healing. We’re right here for you. Maybe sharing a few more pictures of Snickers will bring some smiles. I am sending you a {{HUG}}}

Remember 4 years, 8 months agoWe lost our Max Sunday 11/29/2021 @ 1:11am. He was such a loving little soul. We had rescued him from an abuse situation. He had also been run over by a vehicle and so he had arthritis early on in his back legs.
When we brought him home he had no idea what a bed was, how to play with a toy, that food and water were always available to him. We had to teach him so much, but he also taught us so much. Like how to love again, how to enjoy the simple pleasure of just sitting together with no expectations. We had lost that since our son died and my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. We valued every single minute with Max. He gave unconditionally right up until the end. We knew his time was short as he also had cancer but we weren\’t prepared. We miss him desperately , our hearts are shattered and our home is empty now. How do you handle this pain and heartache? It\’s all consuming and seems as if it won\’t end.-
Lori, you ask how you ‘handle’ the pain. You ARE handling the pain, but not really …IT handles you in that the pain is not a feeling, but a state of being. I think it’s a cellular part of us, just as Max was such a deep part of you. But, the love is also a part of you, as are the memories of how you gave comfort to poor little scared Max, and he gave you such important lessons. What a powerful give and take you shared together. How fortunate was Max, and all of you for sharing the time you did. Every living thing will die – leaves that decorate and feed trees are like our beloved pets – they feed us love, happiness and make us better, but they have to “jump off” at some point, leaving behind the tree of support and strength we shared with them. As a friend says “they are only on loan to us”. It is more than painful to part, in a way that is not comparable, but Lori, what a wonderful gift you and Max shared, don’t you think? I think you and your family are magnificent – you have loved and lost so much, and yet you give more, love more, and of course when you open yourselves up, you can ‘lose’ more. But Lori, would you have it any other way? I am so, so very sorry for your parting from Max. And I am so happy for the love you gave, and got. You have my deepest, most sincere sympathy and appreciation. Please, stay with us and share your feelings, and know we are here with understanding and nothing but kind support. It’s not much, but please accept my {HUG}. Toni

Remember 4 years, 8 months agoALWAYS thinking about the 2 shepherds my wife & I lost this past summer. Sad & heart breaking. We buried them in our back yard next to 2 of our other dogs. R.I.P. guys – til we meet again. Gone but not forgotten.-
Oh Randy, how terribly sad and painful that must have been – both of them this summer. Was there and accident, or were they unwell? How long did they live with you – together the whole time? They don’t look like siblings, but you can never tell. What were their names? We’d really like to know them better, and I extend my deepest sympathies to you and your wife. I think the holidays stir up strong and deep emotions, and I hope you find comfort in the memories of the love and joys you shared. Please tell us more and let us know how you are doing. Toni
-
Hi Toni. Doing OK here. Getting back to you about the loss of our 2 shepherds. We found out our silver & black shepherd “Ranger” was riddled w/cancer & suffering only 1 week b4 going on a trip so our vet recommended putting him to sleep. We were very sad, but still had our white shepherd “Axel”. 6 days later we took Axel to a local boarding kennel before we went away & 2 days later the lady who runs the kennel said he became ill & lethargic. A few hours later she called back to tell us Axel had passed away. We cut our trip short & came home late that night. We picked Axel up in the morning & brought him home to bury him in our yard next to Ranger. We don’t know if he died of a natural cause like heart failure (he was over 10 yrs old) or if it was the trauma of losing his buddy. We’ll never know for sure why it happened but we hope that they both enjoyed a loving home here w/us.
-
Thank you for sharing your touching story with us, Randy. My sister’s dog had cancer and she made the loving, generous choice to let him go peacefully, as you did with Ranger. You were thinking only of what was best for him, at the expense of your own feelings. We’ll never know what happened to Axel. It sounds as if something was wrong with him, and yes, maybe whatever it was, was compounded by his grief….we don’t know. But I am sure they DID enjoy a wonderful life full of love and joy with you. Please always feel welcome to share with us, and if you open your hearts and home to more loves, we’d love to hear about them, and see photos. And Randy, if you read posts that move you, please share your sympathies and comfort with others – it means so much. I am glad you are in our caring community. Toni

Remember 4 years, 9 months agoMy little guy Skippy went over the Rainbow Bridge on July 14 the 2021 2 days after his 16th Birthday. I miss my little guy so very much,
-
Oh Nancy, I am sorry to hear about your Skippy. When did you meet him? Were you together for all those years? What kind of pet was Skippy? May we see some pictures?
-
Skippy was not quite a year old when I got him. He was a stray and such a cute little guy. We were best friends slept with me and my Bengal cat for all those years. He was a Jack Russell.
-
How nice of you to take Skippy in to your home and heart, Nancy. It’s “good/bad” to have been together do long – we share so much over the years, and saying goodbye is bitter-sweet when they are at an advanced age. We know in our heads that we shared a wonderful long life of love and it was good for them, but we miss their presence, company and love so much. If you would like to share more about your lives together, and some pictures, we would really love to share those with you. By the way, were Skippy and your cat close friends? How is your cat doing?

Remember 4 years, 9 months agoMy 17 year old pitbull named Dipstick crossed the Rainbow Bridge on September 23rd. I got him when he was 6 weeks old. He was the best dog I\’ve ever had. I miss and love him so much.-
Crystal, Dipstick was so handsome and sweet looking. You were together a long time (how long?) and it is devastating to say goodbye. I am so sorry for your parting and hope you find smiles before tears with his memories.
-
He was with me for 17 years. He was and always will be a part of me. His health was declining so fast that I made the decision to do what was best for him and have him put to sleep. His appointment was on September 23rd at 1pm. But when I woke up the morning of the 23rd he had already crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I believe in my heart that he didn’t want to die in a strange place, he wanted to die at home. I had him cremated that way he would still be at home with me.
-
What a lovely story, Crystal. Thank you for sharing this. I know it’s terribly painful and sad to say goodbye, but the years of joy and love are so fulfilling. What a gift Dipstick shared with you, to pass away on his own. That’s something we all wish for – to go peacefully in our own time. I am so sorry, and hope you are finding happiness in your memories. Stay in touch with us, and if you read a post that touches you, please extend your own sympathies and understanding with others in our community.

Remember 4 years, 9 months agoThis is My Baby Chester. I Lost Him on Sept 24,2021. I never got a chance to say Goodbye. He Died Suddenly. The Heartache is Horrible, I\’m constantly Crying. I Miss My Buddy, My Friend, My Son. The Only thing that comforts Me is knowing he\’s at Rainbow Bridge
and in no pain, Waiting for Me to join Him someday. I Love You Chester-
Oh Carol, how hard this is for you – not being able to say goodbye. It’s never easy, even when we can. You say Chester is not in pain now – was he ill or ailing? We wish pain free peace for our loved ones, and I am glad with you that Chester is relieved and released. But darn it, the pain is deep within because the love is too, and Carol, it takes as much time as it takes to move through it. Little things trigger big emotions, like seeing a favorite toy, or passing where they liked to sleep…. One day you will smile before the tears with a memory of Chester. You may find “Griffin’s Heart” helpful – it’s part book, part journal and some of our community members have found it very helpful. (It’s in our shop). It hasn’t been very long since you parted and I hope you will share more about Chester, and keep us posted about how you are doing. Here is a {HUG}. Toni

Remember 4 years, 9 months agoThis is my sweet Shirley. I love you and miss you baby girl
-
Oh my goodness, Rosemary – she looks so much like my girl! What a beauty. I am so sorry she’s no longer with you. How long has it been? Please tell us about her. And thank you for sharing this sweet picture (we’d love to see more).
-
I had my sweet Shirley for 15 years. She was 1 in a litter of 4.She had kitten’s of her own and was also a grandma. She was just so loving and I held her when she had to go.
-
Oh boy, Rosemary. This really touches me because she and my old girl (17 1/2) could be twins. I don’t think mine ever had kittens. Did Shirley’s babies look like her? How long has it been since you said goodbye ? We know intellectually that she enjoyed a long life of loving with you, but boy, it just hurts so much… I’m thinking of you and sending you hugs….
-
Thank you so much for caring about my Shirley. Yes most of her kitten’s had alot of black on them. Sadly I just lost her on September 13th, 2021. I held her, talked to her and kissed when she passed on.I miss her so very much.
-
There are no good ways to say goodbye but, dying in our sleep, or being held by a loved one, seem to be the kindest ways, to me. In that, you were both lucky. It hasn’t been very long for you, Rosemary, and I hope you allow yourself to grieve as you need. Please let us know how you are doing. We’re thinking of you.

Remember 4 years, 9 months agoI remember my Nikki girl. She was the most dedicated and devoted companion I ever had. I miss her every day
-
Laurie, I too had a Nikki, and lost her many years ago. She was a calico kitten who died much too young, at nine months. I don’t have pictures of her to share, but will you share yours, and tell us about your Nikki? I think we will always miss our pets with whom we had/have special bonds.
-
I’m so sorry for your loss losing a pet is like losing a part of the family. I’m sorry I don’t have a picture of my Nikki either it makes me so sad that I never was a real big picture taker back then cuz I sure would like to have some photos of her she was absolutely beautiful she was a Rottweiler so precious to me such a great personality loved the kids especially she was very protective of them very protective of the family it came very natural to her but she was also a very kind loving and caring companion companion I miss her very much
-
It’s funny how taking a picture was so different. We had to have them developed and actually wait for them to come back – imagine that! I know what you mean, wishing we had a photo or two, but we still remember them, no matter how much time passes. I have only smiles with her memories, it’s been so very long ago now……

Ellie’s mom posted an update in the group
Remember 4 years, 10 months agoHad to put my sweet Ellie to rest this past May. My heart is broken she was my BFF miss her every day .-
Oh what a sweet face. Her eyes speak volumes. I can see why you miss her, and so very sorry for your parting. How did you meet? How long were you together? May I ask what happened? The decision to provide a peaceful passing is such a kind, generous and loving thing to do. It’s devastating for us, but you made it with Ellie’s best interest in mind and heart. Please let us know more about your life with Ellie, and know we understand, care, and are here for you.
-
Toni thank you for your kind words. Ellie came to me from a family that could not keep her because she did not like the cats. I took her and said I would find her a good home well you know how that went she stole my heart and for the next 9 years she was my little girlfriend .
Sadly this past winter she became lethargic one day and could barely walk, when I took her to our vet it was discovered she had a mass on her spleen. Being that Ellie was now 11 years old we decided no surgery but my vet recommended a Chinese supplement and my Ellie had another 4 months of a good life.
On May 12 she was fine eating, barking talking to me like she always did and the next morning she was pretty much unresponsive. She could barely walk so I spoke to my vet and after examining her we made the decision to let her go. I held her and loved her and she kept those sweet eyes on me the whole time. I miss her terribly but I know I was really blessed to have her in my life❤️-
You say it beautifully. What a lucky girl she was, and you are, to have shared such a loving life together. It’s the only downside of falling in love with our pets – they are only “on loan” to us and the hole left when they die is so very deep. BUT – how wonderful were the happy times! Thank you for sharing your story with us, and please stay involved with our caring community. Others would love to hear your support if you like. Toni

What a darling Winston was. I am very sorry for the hard decision you had to make and know that you did it in Winston’s best interest, at the expense of your pain of saying goodbye. That is the most loving, generous thing we can, and have, to do for our beloveds. Many of us in this community have had to, or are anticipating, making the same decision, and we understand.
