Celebrate 5 years, 5 months agoThis is my beautiful kitty Sophie. She is 15 yrs. old and I love her so much
-
Well alright, Sophie! You are one cool cat, girl. Love your colors, and your ‘catitude :-)… Is she a “Torty” or Calico? My Squirt looked like her but with really long hair. Thank you, Lynn, for sharing with us and please, tell us more about Sophie. Just love this picture. Toni-
Sophie is a Torty and a polydactyl (mitten kitty) and a rescued barn kitty found while I was exploring the back roads in Indiana on a camping trip.
-
I enlarged the picture and see her paws. Yep – she’s a cutie alright. I would love to see more pictures of Sophie – she is a really cool cat and I want to know her better. Will you give her a purr and pet from me, please? -
Lynn. How are you and Sophie?-
We are fine. We have 2 other kitties also and rescued another dog.
-
How wonderful of you to bring these loves into your home and heart. Please continue to share their stories with us, and if you see a story here that touches you, reach out with a supporting hand.

Remember 5 years, 5 months agoI always had pets growing up. Everyone was the best dog or cat ever in the entire world. Caesar my bestest buddie passed away January 2019. He was diagnosed with Epilepsy and had seizures, but not close enough together to put him on meds. The meds would have done more harm to his body than good. He must have had a seizure during the night and hurt his back, I had no choice, he was paralyzed. I live with that decision but know in my heart it was for the best for him. He is running free over that rainbow bridge playing with all the other pets I had. It hurts my heart to this day. I miss him.-
Yes, Jennie, the selfless, kind act of releasing our beloved pet from suffering is so very difficult and heart wrenching, even though we intellectually know it’s our final act of kindness we can extend after a life together. I am sorry you had to say goodbye to Caesar, but you acted in his best interest, and with Love. If you are not ready to bring another faithful friend into your home, perhaps you could volunteer to walk dogs at a shelter to help fill the void?….

Remember 5 years, 5 months agoI lost my dog Macy May 4 2019. We lost her to bladder cancer. We didnโt want her to suffer anymore it was the hard decision to make, The family was there with her until the end.We buried her in the backyard at our old house. I miss her every day. I couldnโt take her to our new home because the old house is her resting place. So it hard for me to del with this. I will drive by and say hi to her and our kitty of 20 years buried there too Nike.I havenโt.been able to give other dog a new home yet because I miss Macy so much. She was 15 1/2 years old when she passed she was the last of her family tree..I love you Macy ❤️-
I just lost my dog Macie too. Im sorry this hurts.i miss her.

I am so sorry Chriss.. thank you for being such a great furparent. Sending lots of healing prayers and hugs

Nancy, what a beautiful girl Macy was. There is no timetable on grief. It can take a long time to open your heart and home again. I know someone who refuses to go through the grief of losing a beloved pet ever again. That’s her choice and I understand it. I went for many years without a pet again, then fell in love with my girl who I was fostering back to health. She’s getting up there (17 soon), and has ongoing medical issues we’re treating, and I have melted down a few times when I thought she was dying, so I know the pain. I also wouldn’t trade the years we’ve had together, sleeping with her backside in my face, having someone greet me when I come home…just all the love in the house while she is in it. It’s not easy to say goodbye. I hope you find smiles before tears, and let us know how you are doing.

Celebrate 5 years, 5 months agoThis is Poppy. She is my rescue from October. Sheโs a sweet girl but very skittish. She was found on the streets of Philadelphia. She is taking a while to adjust but, I hoping we can have a wonderful life together.❤️🐈⬛-
Awwww Cathy. Thank you for rescuing this baby. Your awesome
-
Cathy, I said earlier that she is adjusting to a new environment, and new everything, but I didn’t see the picture until just now. Oh my, she looks so much like my girl – it’s amazing. I brought mine home four years ago to Foster her back to health and we fell in love, and I formally adopted her, and she is doing okay. She will have her 17th birthday March 13th – maybe we can all celebrate together – but my point is, she was so sick, and so scared, it took her awhile to embrace me. I bet Poppy will be a very dear, sweet, loving friend to you, Cathy. Will she let you gently blow on her fur? Murmur purrs while you do that? I think it’s comforting and maybe reminds them of being a kitten and their mother’s presence. Let us know if you try that, and how Poppy responds.
-
Thank you for your encouragement and kind words. Iโm always ready for a furbaby birthday celebration. I worked at a 24 hour Veterinary Hospital and we celebrated birthdays all the time for the hospital cats. I rescued Licorice from there. She was the only female house cat and needed a home. I would come through a door and sheโd come running to me. Thatโs the kind of bond we had. So I took her home. Thank you again.
-
Oh Cathy – my old girl has been to our 24 hour hospital a number of times the past six months. Twice I thought she was going to die, but we are treating her. She suddenly went blind and it was sky-high blood pressure. With the medicine, her retinas reattached and she is seeing again. I’ve had lots of pets and had never heard of that. If you want to, would you help our community members with your thoughts and insights about ailments? I appreciate and admire the work and help you gave to pets and their parents. And, no kidding, Licorice looks very, very much like my girl. I look forward to following along with you both, and again, if you have tips to share with others, that would be really nice of you. Toni
-
Iโm so happy to hear positive outcomes. That is wonderful news that she regained her sight. I would be more than happy to give my insight on certain issues. Please be aware I am not DVM but have seen a lot over my 20 years in the business that I may be able to help. My input to the majority of the people I spoke to was that a peace of mind and gut instinct is always the best recourse. If you pick up the phone to call a 24 hour emergency service you should follow your instinct and let them know you are coming over. Always best to call a 24 hour hospital before coming over. It could be 2:00 in the morning and there are 15 patients in the waiting room. Animals are triage by seriousness of the emergency. Not all 24 hour hospitals are fully staffed like they are during the day. So be prepared to wait unless your pet is in critical condition. If you are lucky enough to have a University near by see if they have a 24 hour service. They are always highly staffed. But, please remember if you feel your pet needs emergency care never hesitate to go to the ER. Your pet will be seen by a Vet tech to make sure they are stable. If not, ER personnel will go into full veterinary care. Just some inโs and outโs of the ER care in Veterinary Medicine.
-
Cathy, thank you for your insights and tips. I called my 24 hour ER a few weeks ago on a Sunday (lots of blood in her stool, which we are treating) and then thought maybe I was being silly since it’s a known progressive inflammatory disease and almost didn’t take her. Glad I did. We were there 2 1/2 hours and they increased her dosages. You are right – they are very busy and since we can’t go in with them, I suggest bringing a book to read while you wait outside. Any time you can share your thoughts, it’s much appreciated. Wendy lost her beloved Snuggles to a bad reaction to insulin and I asked her if there were symptoms of diabetes. We can all learn and benefit from our shared experiences. Toni

Cathy, How are you and Poppy doing now? Is she “thawing out” and warming up to you? Is she feeling more comfortable? I would really like to see more pictures of her since she looks so much like my darling girl….

Remember 5 years, 5 months agoThese are my angels. From front to back are Remmington, Toby and Gracie. They were my everything. They kept me alive and strong throughout my darkest days. I\’d not have survived loosing my husband if it wasn\’t for them. They made me smile and laugh and play again. They were my reasons to live. Without them I feel so empty and lost. I treasure each and every memory I have with them.-
Beatiful family

Sara, you have been through a lot of loss and heartbreak. As you heal, and to help you heal, I think you are fortunate to be able to recall and savor the good memories and experiences you shared. When you are able to open your heart, will you welcome a new friend into your home? I know people who do so immediately, and others who wait decades before they are ready…..How can we support you? We’d love to see more pictures and hear stories about each of them if you will share those with us. We’re here for you. Hug.
-
Thank you so much for your kindness. Yes I plan on getting another friend soon. I was hesitant because it hurts so much to let go. But the years of joy outweigh the pains of goodbyes. I will definitely share more stories in the future. Thank you again.
-
Yep, I get it, Sara. And I admire you for staying open to another love. Only when you are ready…Let us know and we can share your joy with your new friends…but, only when it’s right for you, Sweetie…
