Ten days after BG died, a friend needed a home for one year old Boots. I was absolutely not ready to bring in a new pet. But if I can keep an animal out of a shelter, I will. So I did welcome Boots and he was such an active, engaging, curious and sweet boy, he helped me heal from my loss. He made me realize that BG lived her life, and I was lucky to share some of it with her, but new life needs love, too. We can never “replace” a pet, but we can open our homes and hearts to new life and love. Boots is back with his person and I miss (and worry about) him, but I credit him with helping me heal. Do NOT let anyone pressure you into adopting if you’re not ready, but in my case, having a new joy was just what I needed. -

Losing a mother is unlike any loss. Especially if you are close. I lost my mum to ALS 15 years ago. That was tough. I am so sorry you couldn’t be with your mom but it’s ture – your mother is always with you, literally in your DNA. Photographic and artistic images of our beloveds DO help us feel close to them. The urns you make with images are an excellent example. I have a sweatshirt with my BG on it, and a canvas of her beautiful face. Plus, sleeping with a stuffed cat helped me get through the tremendous pain of saying goodbye. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and support, Sigrid. {{HUGS}} Toni -

Awwww, how sweet. I am sure Rocky missed Chance. You are welcome to light as many candles as you like. And you can create a lasting memorial, too. You can see my beloved BG and Walter there. I miss them both. There’s a picture of Beauty Girl (aka Deanna) getting ‘catupuncture. -

Good morning to all of us who lost a beloved pet. I wanted to tell you about an idea that I had for helping me with grief. I am still grieving about losing my two sweet cats, Tim and Lulu last year. What affected me even harder was the loss of my mother just when the pandemic started and I could not fly over there to be with her. With the help of therapy and good friends I have come to realize that she will always be with me, right there in my heart. But often I feel myself missing the physical part, being able to hug her. One sleepless night I had an idea: I have a little pillow that she gave me and I knew that you can transfer photos on fabric. So I had one of my favorite photos of her put on fabric (I found the service on Etsy, I can post the link if you are interested) and sewed it on the pillow case. Now when I need a little more than memories I hug the pillow and think of her. Definitely nothing like the real thing but it helps a little. We can do the same with the pets we lost and grieve: every little bit helps, I think.

Rocky passed in September.Bailey is my new dog.Ot doesn’t seem like it’s almost been a year since Rocky passed.I still cry a lot of days and always think of him.Bailey helps.She is such a character.😄🥲🐾🐾❤️💖 -

Toni, I am grateful for your kindness and encouragement. Although, I am still having a hard time remembering happy memories of Romeo at time, I do remember them sometimes. I haven’t dreamt of him and aside from looking at his photos, I’m not able to see him clearly in my minds eye and that is disturbing to me. I’ve read that it might be because I’m still so full of grief. I am trying to get past this, but it’s hard when it starts over again every si g morning when I wake up and realize he is gone. The morning ritual is gone and is a constant reminder. I am better for sure and I am just taking more time than some to get through. But, that’s okay.

Brony, thank you . My thoughts are lonely too. I think about you too and hope you are managing with crazy Lucy. She sounds like a handful, but, also a very special. I know having her brings you a little joy and helps with your loss.
You have a great attitude and you will overcome the damage of that stroke. You may be the tortoise, but, the tortoise won and you will too.

I send out loving thoughts and HUGS to all who have lost a loving pet. I’ve been there several times, and it still hurts. I am, and have been, looking for a new fur baby since I lost my Jasper April 25, 2021, but just haven’t found the right one yet.
