First I wanna say I’m sorry for everybody’s loss. I lost two of my cats, One in December 2020 just before Christmas, and my other cat a week after New Year’s 2021. My heart was so broken, but Life moved on, and I ended up adopting another cat. I already had a dog that I also had adopted. I am sorry I have not been on the site sooner, but between the holidays and now I am sick, it’s been rather hectic. The only way I have actually survived the loss of so many pets, it’s just to remember that once they went over the rainbow bridge, they met all their friends, and they’re playing and having a good time even though they miss us.

What a lovely sentiment to share. Thank you Geri. I am sorry you are not feeling well and wish you a speedy recovery. You are so nice to adopt again, to open your home and heart to another in need of a loving, caring home. I’m sure they are doing their best to take care of you :-). Let’s hope for a better 2022.

So my Christmas was great.I fell nine days ago in my laundry room, straight down on my backside.I went to the ER and I have an L-1 compression fracture. So basically I cannot do anything.I cannot bend over, stoop down,or walk my dog.It hurts when I cough.
So I am basically bed bound, unless I have to go somewhere. -

Hi Toni.I am alright, considering I took a bad fall Monday night on my wet, laundry room floor, which is just temporary sub-floor.I landed on my backside and I am in tremendous pain.Nothing broken. But as far as it being Christmas Eve Eve,and the fact that my mama cat is not here, I am doing well.
Merry Christmas Toni. -

Wow, was surprised to hear from you so soon, but very pleased. I agree animals are amazing in what they can deal with, and how well they deal with things that would break most humans. Each one of my fur-babies has been an absolute inspiration to me in so many ways. Bear is the only dog that I have been able to have in my life from beginning to end. His mother was my roommates dog so I was there through the entire pregnancy. In fact he and his siblings were actually born in my lap. Momma was fine with the whelping box until the contractions really started, then she ended up in my lap. It was a good thing I was there as Bear was nearly twice the size of the other puppies and Sheila was having a great deal of trouble birthing him. I ended up helping her by pulling him out. When the pups were only 10 days old Sheila for some strange reason brought him out to me, placing him in my lap for a couple of minutes. She did this every so often until he was old enough to run around and find me himself. I never quite understood it until Bear was about 4mo old and I had my first seizure, and I had vomited and aspirated. He went through the screen door over to the neighbors getting his head stuck in the cat door attracting her attention. She knew something was wrong because you never saw one of us without the other. By the time she got to me I was already turning blue. Thank god she was a nurse and knew what to do. So I am still alive today because of him. I truly believe that his mom knew that there was going to be something special between us and tha\’ts why she brought him out to me. He saved my life more than once, protecting me for the 5 yrs that we lived on the streets together. In fact there came one of the darkest days of my life, I considered suicide, but couldn\’t do it because I couldn\’t leave him alone in the world to fend for himself. I just couldn\’t do that to him. He was the most incredible soul that has ever touched my life. He made me a better person. He is my soul-mutt. Of all the dogs I\’ve ever loved I loved him the best. Not more, just so differently. He was Queensland Bleu Healer (mom) and Flat coated Retriever (dad) 105lbs of the longest blackest, softest fur. And he really did resemble a bear when you looked at him walking from the back. He had the sweetest personality, loved almost everyone. But there were those few that he would place himself between them and me and let out a little \”burf\” just so I could hear it. I learned quickly, especially on the streets, to trust his judgement. Itkept me safe moe than once. He had a thing for little dogs. He loved them. The last 3yrs of his life his \”girlfriend\” was a little Chihuahua named Tee-Tee. She lived across the street and they would lay by their fences and actually \”talk\” to each other. She could take his favorite baby from him, or even take treats right out of his mouth. She cried out for him for months after he passed. Ah, I have such amazing memories of him. I do of all my dogs but he was so special. I;m including pics of Grunt-Grunt this time. I just got a new computer and haven\’t been able to transfer my pics of Bear and Ladiebug over yet. When I do I\’ll share them too. I have to share this story, it was so funny. Tonight we had a really bad winter rain storm come through with wind gusts over 55mph. My little Grunt-Grunt was sleeping soundly on her perch, (the arm of the couch that\’s next to the wall) and we had a super wind gust that hit the side of our trailer so hard it sounded like the walls were going to come down. Well this woke he up with such a start that she jumped up off the perch and let out the biggest grow and barking she\’s ever done and i don\’t think her feet touched the couch as she landed in my lap at the opposite end. She buried herself under my arm and was letting the wall have it. Poor baby, that wind gust really got to her. she\’s been attached to me at the hip ever since. Ilove her so much. When I got her she\’d been used as a breeder, physically abused, never even had a toy. Nor was she allowed to go outside to play or go potty. She had a horrible ear infection that had been neglected for months the vet said. It was so bad she\’d scratched a hole in the cornea of her eye and is now blind in that eye. She was lucky not to lose it. She\’s so amazing, it took me about 24 hrs of taking her out every couple hrs to potty and praising her when she did to train her to ask to go out to potty. It didn\’t take long for her t figure out what tous were for, even though she doesn\’t play with them a whole lot, she does play with them. Within the first 3 or 4 hrs of having her she decided I wasn\’t allowed out of her sight. Her owner died and the lady\’s daughter was going to put her down rather than try to find her a home because she was almost 8 and because of her eye. The woman figured no one would want her. I couldn\’t believe it. I got her the day before they were going to put her down. At first I was only going to foster her because we\’d just lost Ladiebug 13 days before. It took less than 24hs for me to decide that I couldn\’t give her up. She was just so precious, so willing to love after coming from such tragic circumstances. She gives me strength. If she can go through what she did and still have such a loving personality, learn so fast, I can face anything I have to as well. Well I\’ve run on long enough for now, next time stories of Ladiebug. Enjoy the pics. Take care, stay safe and give your babies schritches from our house.-
Dana, you are a fabulous story teller. I feel as if I know Bear and Grunt-Grunt. Can’t wait to see more pictures. Oh boy, Grunt-Grunt is soooo cute – that face! I can’t even tell she’s blind in one eye. You are very special to give her a loving and happy home, and to open your heart again after such painful losses. I think we all have special bonds with certain pets, just as we do with certain people (pets are way better than most people). 🙂 Please stay in touch and have a great holiday season!

You are so kind to share your sympathies while dealing with your own loss, Dianne. I think it helps us to reach out to others who are also grieving, and your words of understanding mean a lot. I think of you and George all the time, so I am glad to hear how you are doing. Let’s try to have a nice holiday, Dianne. We’re always here so let us know what’s up. Toni

Wow Lori, it’s been awhile and I am so glad to hear from you. I remember you lost your brother and shortly after, had to say goodbye to his dog – is that right? Gawd, what a terrible time that was for you. It’s nice that there was a happy event with a wedding for you all to enjoy. I know it’s been several years since you and Snowball parted, and I know the holidays bring back memories of all our loved ones. Holidays are a mix of happy and sad times, aren’t they? Well, I certainly hope THIS season is filled with happy times and joy, Lori. It’s so nice to hear from you, please join in with us more often if you can. {HUGS} Toni

Well it’s been awhile since I.ve written. Been busy. Grunt-Grunt’s hind legs are getting worse, but she still does her best to maneuver around. I didn’t have to build her wheelchair after all. I found a charity online called High Rollers Club that caters to Pugs who need wheelchairs and can’t afford them. I just have to promise to return the chair when Grunt-Grunt can no longer use it. It recently arrived and we’re getting her used to it now. I’ve spoken to the vet and she said that as long as she stays a happy dog, eating and drinking there’s no reason she can’t live to a ripe old age even being paralyzed. This was a comfort to me, as she is my sanity, my best friend. without her i’d be so vey lonely. My fiancé is battling lung cancer and has a spinal disease that leaves him bedbound much of the time, leaving me alone much of the time, except for my Grunt-Grunt. Aug 26th was the 5yr anniversary of my Bears passing and itnwas awesome, for 3 nights before I would be having a nightmare and suddenly I would turn around to see that great big black ball of fur standing there barking and wagging his tail at me. The sight of him changed my nightmare into a much more pleasant dream. The first night seeing him was so real that I woke up and actually looked for him for a minute, until I woke up completely and realized that it was just him visiting me to say hello and that he loved me still. Then when Jim got his cancer diagnosis he was sleeping on the couch having a nightmare, (you could tell, he was moaning and crying out) I saw our Ladiebug standing next to the couch, her nose almost touching his, and I swear I heard her do her quiet little burff and he seemed to calm down, then she was gone. I truly believe that our pets come back to see us from time to time, especially during times of great duress. Ladiebug and Bear protected us while here, and they continue to do so now. God I miss them.

Dana, it is so good to hear from you. Don’t be a stranger. I’ve read and reread your message and am very touched and encouraged by it. When my mother died, my sister and I both saw the beautiful bright light of her energy leave her body. It is beyond comforting to think her energy is still circulating. We can learn a lot from non-human animals: they stoically carry on against what some people would whine about. Little Grunt-Grunt is an inspiration. Would you share some pictures, please? We like to support non-profits that do good works for animals, and I am glad you shared High Rollers Club with us. We’re all thinking of you, Jim and Grunt-Grunt, and know Ladiebug and Bear are too :-). HUGS all around! And best wishes for this holiday season, Dana.

I am getting better, slowly over my Mama cat’s death.I will always feel guilty that she somehow got out of the house without anyone knowing, but,in my heart, I believe it was her way of getting “out”.When I walk at night around the neighborhood with my granddaughter I swear I still see Mama cat’s spirit sitting at the end of my driveway. And it isn’t just one time, but all of the time.I just “hope” she holds no grudges against me when she got hit and killed by a car. Will the guilt ever go away??

I’ve been thinking about you a lot today, Dianne. You had scheduled, and cancelled, giving George the gift of a peaceful passing, and I am in that place now with my Beauty Girl. We were at the doctor again yesterday, and the doc and I spoke at length today. It’s clear she is failing – deaf, blind and dumb now – but not clear she is actually unhappy or uncomfortable. She gets around fine, and unlike George, is eating. BUT… with all of her other health issues, and being almost 18, I do think it’s close to time to share the gift of relief and release. I’ll keep everyone posted about that. I am, like almost everyone here, finding tears from deep within at the slightest thing. Having you all here to understand and go through it with us is so very meaningful, and I thank you all.
