They have gotten to be quite the pair. My son told me he is glad I have Alfie now because he started barking during the night a couple of weeks ago and my son (as I said earlier, he lives across the alley) just happened to be up and looked out his window. There was a guy trying to break in my house and Alfie scared him off as my son called the police. He sounds bigger than he is when he barks. Both my dogs only weigh 11 pounds each. -

So sorry for your loss. I still miss and think about all the furbabies I have lost in my life. -

I\’m finishing a new baby blanket and my furbabies are helping me. They love when I work on blankets so they can sleep underneath while I work.-
How cute, and fun! Bet they get paid in hugs and kisses! -

This is a great example that a bark is not size dependent – it’s the fact that Alfie alerted the household! Good job, Alfie 👍

I have always had more than 2 pets. When my husband had cancer, we adopted a little girl, Lily Belle. She was being trained as a service dog for my adult grandson, but because her training wasn’t complete, his landlord would not let him keep her. My dogs were all very senior so my grandson asked if we would take her. In addition to the cancer, my husband had copd and couldn’t lay in bed so slept in his lift chair. If he got up during the night, Lily would come get me (she would either sleep on his lap or on a pet bed next to his chair).
After he passed, I kept working part-time even though I am almost 75. In the 3 years since my husband’s death, Lily was developing separation anxiety so I started looking for a companion for both of us. That is how Alfie was added to our small family. He is a rescue dog approximately 2 years old, (Lily is 5) and was dumped on the streets and badly abused (he is terrified of men and tries to bite most of them). He is now glued to me and is protective of both me and Lily. He has now accepted my son and my granddaughter’s fiancee so is getting better.

So much sadness, Karen. I am very sorry. Isn’t it wonderful for you to have Lily Belle and Alfie now? And how knid of you to adopt, especially hearing Alfie’s story. It’s good to hear that Alfie is starting to feel safe and is slowly warming up to men. Please keep sharing your stories with us. We’d love to see pictures of them, too 💕Toni

Karen, you’ve been through a lot! I am so glad you find the strength to care for Alfie and Lily Belle, but maybe you all prop each other up. Sometime in the past the quote by Ram Dass “We are here to walk each other home” really landed on me. Best wishes to you!
