Ah yes, birthdays and holidays are extremely hard, but also give us a reminder of the good times, do you think? I have pictures of my beloved babies on holidays that bring me great joy, too. I’ll share with you that, last night, I was thinking of good times with my girl Squirt, who was 19 when she died, over twenty years ago, and I cried. That totally surprised me, and made me feel good and bad at once – bad that she was gone (gee, for such a long time), and good and grateful for the times we shared. Treasure the tears and smiles, Crystal. It’s what loving is all about💔

Crystal, I am so very sorry. We know, in our heads, that our pets are only “on loan” to us, and that one day we will have to part, but our hearts simply shatter when that happens. It is painful in a way that nothing else is and it takes time and support to find smiles before tears with our memories. I hope you bring forth memories of happy and fun times with Cody, and that helps you move through your loss. We’d love to hear more about Cody, and know how you are coming along. {{HUGS}} Toni
      • @angelakosborne Oh Angela, I am so sorry for your loss of Missy. Are you doing okay? Not so good? We’re here for you, Angela. What kind of pet was Missy? How did you meet? How long were you together? May we see some photos and hear about your life with Missy? Again, I am so sorry and hope our caring community is a place you can find comfort.💔💔Toni

Kim, this is the hard and sad part of sharing our lives with pets who are so sweet and loving – saying goodbye. May I ask you, would you have given up all those moments with Jasper and Gizzy? I suspect not. Can you be kind to yourself in knowing that you loved them and gave them their best lives? Isn’t that the commitment we make going into a loving relationship with our darlings? Yes, it hurts like nothing else to say goodbye. That’s why we are here for, and with you – because we understand and care. So, if you can, when you are ready, please bring forth the fun and funny memories of Jasper and Gizzy. Maybe write them each a note telling them how much grateful you are to have had them in your life. And, imagine what they each would want you to know about the wonderful life they shared with you. Please let us know how you are doing, Kim. {{HUGS}} Toni
        • @paulag Simba, please tell us about Taz and your lives together. What kind of pet was Taz? May we see some photos and hear more about Taz? And how are you doing, Simba? Toni

I am so sorry, Dee-Ann. Were Cody and Jake brothers? How long were you together? Are some of your tears from joy? I hope so. They will always be “with” you and I hope you find more happiness than sorrow in your memories. Toni

What a touching tribute you have written to Odie, Janet. I am really sorry for the reason Odie passed. Did he have an underlying condition for which the doc was treating? I found sleeping with a stuffed toy helped me through the nights. In addition to singing to Odie, can you write notes to him telling him your feelings? Please let us know how you are coming along, and continue to share with us. {{HUGS}} Toni

You will always love Peanut – that doesn’t go away when they do. Over time, with time, I hope you find smiles before tears with her memories, until you are only filled with joy and gratitude for the time you shared. ❤️Toni

I am so sorry, Vicki. Last night, in our group meeting, we talked about the final act of kindness – granting our beloved pets a comfortable, peaceful passing. It is the most loving, selfless gift we can give them – relief and release from current and future suffering. Now, the painful process of moving forward without Peanuts. There is no getting around the pain and the tears, just let them flow. Little by little, think of happy memories. You can even write notes to Peanut recalling your happy times, and write FROM Peanut to you. Her sister is mourning alongside you, Vicki, and I hope you find comfort in each other. Let us know how you are both coming along. {{HUGS}} Toni

Kim, I am so sorry. It hasn’t been very long since you said goodbye to Bubbies and it is certainly undertsandable that you are still deeply grieving. I was relieved when I said goodbye to my darling, knowing it was best for her to have a peaceful passing, but the emptiness of my home and bed and everything was very hard for me, too. I made a mistake giving away her things too quickly, and found sleeping with a stuffed animal helped me a lot. (Others have found even holding a pillow helps). Brony is right – opening your home and heart to another does heal – it reminds us that while one life and love has departed, another is around for us to care for and about. But, YOU have to be ready for that and there is no set limit on when. For me, a friend’s mother had to go into a facility for awhile and I brought in her young kitty, Boots. He was full of life and energy (my goodness, the energy!) and truly healed my broken heart. I’ve since had to return Boots but will always be grateful for having him enter my sad world just ten days after I said goodbye to my Beauty Girl (You can read her memorial on our Memorials tab). So Kim, remember the many fun, funny, loving years you and Bubbies shared, and know Bubbies would want you to be happy for them. We’re here for you, and want to hear from you. {{HUGS}} Toni

Maureen, our group meets tonight at 7 Eastern if you can join us. I was thinking that you could wear a mask to visit your shelter and that might help with your allergies. What do you think? Toni
                      • @kitrin22 Cathy, I am so sorry for your loss of Snoopy. Will you tell us about Snoopy and your lives together? May we see some pictures? Our group meeting is tonight at 7 Eastern if you would like to join us. We’re here for you.Toni

                      • @spitter80 Hi Kim, welcome to our caring community. Please tell us about Bubbies (is that correct?), and let us know how you are doing. Toni

                        • Bubbies was an amazing cat. He was 18 when we had to send him to the rainbow bridge. To be honest I’m not handling his death all too well. It’s been 3 1/2 weeks and my heart aches for him. I can’t stop crying. There’s a big hole that only he could fill. My house feels empty.
                          • When I lost my Lulu I was a crying mess for months. I adopted Lucy cause I was so lonely. She helped to mend my heart. Take your time. Something shall come along to help heal your heart.
