    Oh Becki, saying goodbye is so very hard, but at such a young age it can be even more difficult to accept and understand. I am just so sorry. None of us know how long we have but we expect to enjoy a longer time together. Is cancer common in his breed? When you are ready, and if you’d like, may we see some pictures of Bob and hear more about your lives together? Becki, this is one of the most difficult and painful times for you and we are here for you with sympathy, actual empathy, and understanding to support you and help you. Please stay in touch here, and join our group support September 21st if you can. 💔Toni

    • @momee How are you doing, Maureen? You are so kind to share your support with others and I hope that brings you some comfort. So, how are you doing now? {{HUG}} Toni

      • Hi Toni, thank you for reaching out to me. I am still having a rough time for the most part, but there are times where I am better. I guess there really is no choice but to go on. I don’t think I will ever get over losing Romeo. The days just drone on and now it is almost 8 months since he left. It is so hard to believe he has been gone that long and that in itself makes me so, so sad. It is finally hitting me little by little that he is never coming home and I will never see him again. That is still so hard to face right now. I know time is supposed to soften and help with grief so there’s that.
        I have compassion for others who are going through a loss and I think it does bring me some comfort to say something kind to them. Losing a fur baby can be worse than losing a human in some cases and I have to say that is the case for me. I am lost and broken right now and I feel for others who are experiencing the same and I want to help ease their sorrow in some small way if I can.
        Thank you, again, for you kindness and for all you do for everyone here.
        • Oh, it DOES help to know our pain is understood and that others care. Your kind words mean very much. There is absolutely no proscribed time for healing from grief. As we’ve discussed, we crawl through it together. Have you tried writing a letter to Romeo, telling him your memories and feelings? You can also write what you think Romeo would want you to know in a letter from him to you. You might find some comfort doing either, or both, of those. Let us know if you do. We’re here for you, Maureen, always with open arms. {{Toni}}
          • Hi Toni, I have been writing messages to Romeo. I have a memorial page and I post my feelings and talk to him. Right now that’s very comforting for me.
            I am definitely crawling along like everyone here.
            Thank you, Toni…. hugs to you too.
            • Maureen, you will see Romeo again. Hugs to you.
              • Hi Brony, I hope you’re right about that. That would be something I could look forward to. Hugs back to you too.
                • Maureen, our group meets tonight at 7 Eastern if you can join us. I was thinking that you could wear a mask to visit your shelter and that might help with your allergies. What do you think? Toni
                • @tanyascott55 Hello Tanya, welcome to our caring community. I am sorry for your loss of Neko. May we hear about Neko and your lives together, see some photos? @gregorylauren1gmail-com Hi Lauren, welcome to our caring community. I am so sorry for your loss of Katie and understand it’s been a couple of years since you said goodbye, and yet the memories are still vivid and can hurt, but also bring wonderful joy with the memories of the good times you shared. May we see pictures of Katie? And tell us about your “chonk”! I had the pleasure of caring for Boots before he went back to his human and can tell you I miss him every day. Are many tuxedos 15 pounds? Thank you, Lauren, for sharing your sympathy and understanding with others in our community. That’s what we’re here for. Sending you a {BIG HUG} Toni

                    Catherine, I am so very sorry for your losses, and your deep pain. A few months – many months – moving through grief has no timeline. There are some things you can do, when you’re ready, to help ease the pain. One of them is to write a letter to Taj telling him everything you are feeling and treasure about your times together. Then, write the letter Taj would send to you. You may find Taj has nothing but love and gratitude for his life with you, and he would want you to be happy for the gifts you shared. Our pets are only “on loan” to us, never for long enough. Forever wouldn’t be long enough. But everything and everyone will move on, just as every leaf will fall from a tree (even a rock will erode with time). I think our pets know this better than we do. When you are ready, you might think of your time with Taj as a ruler with each inch being a year. As you recall each inch (year) and the fun and funny times you shared, allow yourself to relive the joy you felt. You will see that just the very last part of the ruler was an unhappy time for you and Taj. I hope some of this helps you, and I hope you will join our group meeting September 21st to talk about Taj and your other babies. Meanwhile, keep sharing with us. We’re here for you with sympathy and understanding.💔Toni

                        Hi Christina. I am glad to hear from you and am sorry you have been going through whatever it has been. Does that add to your migraines? Stress and grief do that. It’s understandable that you are missing June – it hasn’t been very long since you said goodbye, especially after twenty years of love together. Heck, I still think of my Squirt who died in the ’90’s and get choked up. Our love never goes away. What we CAN do to help heal is let our minds take charge rather than our hearts, to remind us that our pets are only ‘on loan’ to us, and that while we are graced with their company we have shared the gift of lives well lived in love. Take all the time you need, continue to share with us here, and know we undertsand and care. Here is a {{BIG HUG} for you. Toni

                          Cindy, I am sorry. Picking up what was your most beloved friend is a terribly difficult thing to do. It is another harsh and hard reminder that JJ is really gone and is one of the most difficult and heartbreaking moments in your life. I am crying writing this, thinking of your pain. So let’s do it, and go through this together. Please cry and rant or whatever you need to do, then please take some deep breaths and think of a moment with JJ in which you were both so happy, content and loving. Whew – doesn’t that feel better? Try to stay in your head for a bit, remembering that everyone, everything, will pass one day, and that you gave JJ the best life for JJ’s allotted time here. It’s an exercise you can practice each day, as many times a day as you need. I hope that helps as you navigate through the grief of loss towards the profound joy of treasured memories. Stay with us here, Cindy. We’re with you and have more tools to help you through this terrible time of loss . 💔Toni
