Oh Mary, that is a lot to lose almost exactly a year apart for three years. I understand how you must be walking through a fog of grief. I will share a story I haven’t thought of in years, and maybe we can make some sense of Gizmo’s passing: I had 3 cats and one was just a kitten who would not go outside. I had to pick her up and take her out. One night, one of the other cats walked in through the sliding door I held open for her and the kitten jumped over that cat – something she never, ever did. Ever. She did not go outside. When the kitten didn’t come in after a few minutes, I sent the other cat to find her and she came back to the door and I knew …. the kitten had been hit and killed. I have always wondered if the kitten was somehow compelled to not only go out that night, but to actually jump over the back of the other cat to do so. We’ll never know about my kitten, or your Gizmo, but maybe there are reasons why these tragedies happen to our little innocents….I don’t know, but I am very sad and sorry for your losses. And Thank You for being so kind and generous by opening your home and heart to more new loves. Please, let us know how you are coming along.

Awwww….what a darling girl. And tolerant (the tutu and crown!) :-). My toothless black cat is soon to be 17 1/2 and I know that’s a nice, long, (spoiled) life, but when she goes I am going to feel the bite of loss mixed with the joy of love. But, like you, I wouldn’t trade our time together. Please share your own support, sympathies and encouragement with anyone in our Community who touches you. It means a lot to hear from other bereaved pet lovers. I look forward to hearing how you are doing. Toni

Oh Tara, I don’t think four or five months is very long to mourn, and hope you will be kind to yourself. We have resources to help you if you like: our grief counselor (click the box on the upper right side to contact him directly), and two books: “Griffin’s Heart” – part supportive book, part journaling for your feelings, and a digital book – “101 Ways to Help Your Heart Heal after Pet Loss” you can download. They are in our Shop. Of course, we are here for you to share with, too, and understand. Sending you a HUG.

She sure was a tough little cookie! Cockapoos are so cute. We’re excited to see her pictures. Simply click the camera icon in the lower left of the ‘comment’ box. Oh gosh, her passing is so recent, you must still be grieving. In our minds, intellectually, we know 15 years is a full life, but in our hearts, emotionally, it’s a terrible blow that takes moving through in our own time. We’re here for you. I’m sending you a HUG.

What a nice long time you had together. Yes, it’s a relief and release when they are suffering and get to rest. It’s really hard on us to say goodbye, but we, and they, know our pets are only “on loan” to us and we find joy in having shared our lives with them. To add photos just click the camera icon on the bottom left of this ‘comment’ area. And please feel welcome to share your stories about your poodles, too. It sounds as if you are doing okay, and I hope that’s true. Do you have pets now?

Oh Sherylle, I am sorry for your losses. It’s nice to remember them each with a candle. Simply click our logo on the top of the page and add them. If you’d like to share some photos of them, click the camera icon in the ‘comment’ box on this page. We’d love to hear about them, and if you would like to share your support with others in our community, that’s nice, too.
                • @mommaw Zoe Rose is such a pretty name. Will you tell us about her, please? May we see some pictures?

                  • Thank you, Toni. Yes, her name suited her perfectly. She was a little 11 pound Cockapoo that was in our lives for 15 wonderful years. We had to say goodbye to her on August 6, so it’s still very painful. Over the years, she suffered with IVDD, glaucoma, and pulmonary hypertension. She was a tough little cookie, though, and always had love to give. Where do I post a picture or 2?

                    • @tara Hi Tara. I am sorry to hear of your parting from Grim. What type of pet was Grim? How long were you together? How are you doing?

                      • Grim was an 11 year old border collie mix. We had him since he was about 9 weeks old. He passed in April. He was always so excited to see us when we came home. He had so much personality and always made us smile. His death consumes my thoughts. It’s been 4 months and I can’t get past it.

                        • @tammac60 Hello Tamara, and welcome to our caring community. I am sorry for your loss of Gracie and hope you will share some stories about your lives together, and some photos, too. Are you doing okay?

                          • Thank you for your kind words. Gracie had been with me since she was 8 wks. She battled CHF for 2 1/2 yrs & at age 15 yr 2 mths she was ready to go. She was so funny, spunky, a big talker & such a joy. Where do I go to add photos of her & my 2 other poodles who gained their wings? Thanks

That is a lot of loss and grief Bobby. Would you find it helpful to speak with our grief counselor who serves our community to help navigate your pain? You can find out about him by clicking the box at the top right of this page. The kind, caring people in our community understand the depth of pain and are here for you. Please share your feelings if you like – it helps to express yourself in a safe place. I will be thinking of you and hoping you find some joy each day.

Jan, just click the little camera icon on the lower left of the “comment” box to upload photos. We’d love to see your Sabaka. Oh boy, the guilty feelings are so hard to deal with. I think almost everyone who has made the decision to provide a peaceful exit for their beloved pet has wrestled with guilt in some way. Perhaps it’s because we don’t want to say goodbye and continuing treatments and medicines can extend our time together, but for whose benefit – ours or theirs? As a Vet tech, you know, intellectually, the most generous and loving act of kindness is to allow our beloved furry friends to pass comfortably and not have to endure pain or extreme discomfort. Emotionally, it’s a whole different story – the depth of our love and feelings, the emptiness and finality of parting, are tremendously strong and can override the ‘thinking’ part of us. You acted in her best interest and I must believe she appreciates your selflessness in helping her along. You get to grieve as long as it takes, and I hope you recognize the graciousness of your act of love for Sabaka. We are here for you. Please let us know how you are coming along. I’ll be looking for your pictures. Sending you heartfelt HUGS.

Valerie, of course you are still grieving. It was a tragic, terrible thing that happened, and just shocking. It’s no wonder you are reeling. One of our community members is finding the book “Griffin’s Heart” a help. It’s part book, part journal. Perhaps you would also find it helpful. It’s in our Shop. We are here to support you in any way – keep sharing your feelings. I think joy shared is joy doubled, grief shared is grief halved. I hope knowing we care helps a bit. HUGS, Toni

Kathy, do I understand that Prince just passed last week, or is he still with you? He looks so sweet in this photo. Sending you hugs.

My goodness, Laura! What a fun bunch of furry friends you have. Your black kitty looks like mine :-). Thank you for sharing. Are they all still with you? Will you tell us about them?

That’s a great picture, Kathy. Prince looks like a happy fellow, and a little sassy 🙂

I’m so sorry, Stephen. It’s only been about six months since Ariel passed, hasn’t it? That’s not overly long to feel deep grief. How is little Leo doing? Leo can’t replace the love and missing you have for Ariel, but I’m sure he helps bring you joy. Let us know how you are coming along, Stephen, and update us on Leo. Hugs

                                            • Hi Marianne. I am sorry for your parting from Rara and hope you will tell us about your lives together, share some stories and photos, and let us know how you are.

                                            • @mylesmom1 Hello and welcome to our caring community, Jan. I am sorry for your loss of Sabaka. How are you doing? What type of pet was Sabaka? How long were you together? Would you like to share some pictures with us? Please let us know how you are.

                                              • Thank you for asking. Sabaka was an Alaskan Husky and 15yrs old. I rescued her at 8 weeks old. It’s been 3 months now that I put her down and I keep questioning myself if I made the right decision. Being a Vet tech for 20yrs, I feel maybe there was more I could have done for her. It’s the guilt I live with every day that hurts so much. We had a special bond and I hope she knows I put her down so she wont be in pain anymore. Because I loved her so much.. Not sure how to post her picture.
