@mylesmom1 Hello and welcome to our caring community, Jan. I am sorry for your loss of Sabaka. How are you doing? What type of pet was Sabaka? How long were you together? Would you like to share some pictures with us? Please let us know how you are.

    • Thank you for asking. Sabaka was an Alaskan Husky and 15yrs old. I rescued her at 8 weeks old. It’s been 3 months now that I put her down and I keep questioning myself if I made the right decision. Being a Vet tech for 20yrs, I feel maybe there was more I could have done for her. It’s the guilt I live with every day that hurts so much. We had a special bond and I hope she knows I put her down so she wont be in pain anymore. Because I loved her so much.. Not sure how to post her picture.
        • Jan, just click the little camera icon on the lower left of the “comment” box to upload photos. We’d love to see your Sabaka. Oh boy, the guilty feelings are so hard to deal with. I think almost everyone who has made the decision to provide a peaceful exit for their beloved pet has wrestled with guilt in some way. Perhaps it’s because we don’t want to say goodbye and continuing treatments and medicines can extend our time together, but for whose benefit – ours or theirs? As a Vet tech, you know, intellectually, the most generous and loving act of kindness is to allow our beloved furry friends to pass comfortably and not have to endure pain or extreme discomfort. Emotionally, it’s a whole different story – the depth of our love and feelings, the emptiness and finality of parting, are tremendously strong and can override the ‘thinking’ part of us. You acted in her best interest and I must believe she appreciates your selflessness in helping her along. You get to grieve as long as it takes, and I hope you recognize the graciousness of your act of love for Sabaka. We are here for you. Please let us know how you are coming along. I’ll be looking for your pictures. Sending you heartfelt HUGS.
