Hi all. I lost my 14 yr 7 mo old Border Collie Pippin on 1/18/24. My heart is broken. I cry at least once everyday I miss him so much. I had him since he was 11 weeks old, I trained him and did obedience training with him, he was my child, as I am unable to have children. How will I ever get over losing my boy? When he crossed, and the vet let me know he had passed, it felt like someone pulled my insides out, it nearly dropped me to my knees. The pain was so incredibly raw, I literally ached from the loss.
I’ve been told that in time, getting a new dog will help heal my heart, but I’ve seen the cost of Border Collie puppies now, and I’ll never be able to afford one, which breaks my heart all over again.-
Johannah, your pain comes through in your writing and I am so very sorry💔I think the deeper the love, the stronger the pain of parting, and you loved Pippin so very much. I am not sure we “get over” loss but we can help offset the pain by actively recalling fun, funny, loving memories of the life you and Pippin shared. Getting THROUGH the pain of parting takes not only time, but recognizing that healing does not mean forgetting. Healing is a way to honor Pippin. Opening your home and heart to another is also a way to honor Pippin by knowing he showed you how much love you have to give. You may not be able to afford a dog, but there are many lovley dogs in shelters just aching for a good life with a loving person like you. Perhaps you can volunteer at your local shelter to get a feel for it and to see if you are ready. Johannah, please join our group meeting this Thursday Feb. 15th at 7PM Eastern. I think you will find comfort talking about your feelings, and may get some other ideas about moving forward. The link is under the “Events” tab on the right side of this page. Please let us know how you are doing, if you decide to adopt or volunteer, and what we can do to support you. {{HUGS}} Toni
