Well it\’s been quite some time since I posted last. Last time I had an adorable Pug Grunt-Grunt, so named for the little grunts she made when she was happy. Well, when I got Grunt-Grunt her left eye was damaged. In March of 2022 her injured eye ruptured and had to be removed. That was $1200 I didn\’t have, but I couldn\’t let her go either. She healed well from the surgery. But for about a year before that she\’d been suffering from Pug myopathy and could wobble at best without assistance. So I found this great charity called High Rollers Club, and they supply dogs with wheelchairs, and you return the chair when you are no longer using it. Well, that dreadful day came for me on 12/30/22 at 4:10pm. Grunt-Grunt had quit eating on Christmas Day, but had shown no signs of being sick until then. When we got to the vet I was told that there was nothing they could do for my baby girl. She had a horrible infection and even if I put her in the ER she wouldn\’t make it. Why?!?!?! She was such a happy little dog who\’s life started out with abuse and neglect. She was my world, got me through so many dark days. I would\’ve done anything to save her, even traded my life for hers, but then I wouldn\’t have been here to care for her. I feel so much guilt over her death, if I just would have known that she was sick, I could have saved her. She deserved to live and love for many more years. She would have turned 12 this May. I miss her so much.-
Dana, I remember Grunt-Grunt. She was such a little trooper and I am so sorry she was unwell. You are understandably heartbroken. What kindness and caring you shared with her. It’s hard for us to second-guess our actions and it’s easy to find ways to feel guilty, but you had vet care and nursed her and she knew how much you loved her. I hope you will be as kind to yourself as she would want you to be. We wish we could have our pets with us forever but they are only on loan to us, never for long enough. Please join our group meeting this Thursday – it helps to talk about it. You’ll get an email with the log-in. I am glad you shared with us here, Dana, and hope you will continue to do so. We’re here for you. {{HUGS}} Toni -
I’m still grieving hard for her. Adopted another dog, poor thing was so traumatized it was awful. She’s coming out of it a little at a time. Will write more about her later. -
How kind of you to adopt, Dana. Can you inagine being stuck in a cage in a strange place and not knowing why or what happened? Poor little thing. What is her name? Can you join us this Thursday and talk about Grunt-Grunt with us? Toni -
I’m sorry I missed the group. If you have one again, please send me the information. Thank you. The new dog’s name is Lexie-Loo-Who. I’ll write more about her later. She is sweet. -
Laxie-Woo-Who. I’ll bite. What’s the story behind the name? I am sorry we didn’t get to hear from you, Dana, and hope to see you in August. The links and login are under “Events” for each month, and the day of the meeting we send an email with the same. Don’t wait until then to tell us about Lexie-Woo-Who. Tell us the story and share photos, please. You are an angel to open your home and heart to traumatized and maligned babies. It takes a lot of time, patience, kindness and love to help them feel safe and comfortable with you. I applaud you🤗❤️Toni -
The name Lexie Loo Who just came to me when we got her. I have a habit of putting the first letter of the name with oo behind it on a lot of dogs. The Who came from the little girl in the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who. She has blossomed so much since we brought her home. When we got her she hadn’t been groomed in months, was filthy, matted stinky and had a horrible ear infection in both ears. She spent the first month sitting on the arm of the couch and shook. She was so traumatized. It just broke my heart. She’s an 8 yr old apricot cockapoo, with little dark patches. Now that she’s been groomed she’s so cute. There were a couple of coincidences that told me that I was doing the right thing by adopting her. First when I got Grunt-Grunt it was 2 wks after I lost Ladiebug. I picked Lexie Loo up 2 wks after I lost Grunt-Grunt. Second they were both 7yrs when I got them, Third both turned 8 in May after getting them. Four we left the house at 1:15 when going to let Grunt-Grunt go, and on the way to pick up Lexie Loo. She has come so far in 9 months. She plays rub-a-dub on the couch if we’re outside or sometimes the kitchen. If she’s outside and one of us comes home she goes to the gate, jumping on it, and whines as her tail is in full wag mode. Once we get in she does a couple of bounces then runs around the yard full speed. It is such a great thing to see her able to and wanting to show her love for us . Knowing that I was part of her transformation filled my heart with joy. She is so courageous to move beyond her trauma to showing joy. Instead of curling up in a ball she now sprawls out completely covering the entire arm of the couch and part of the couch too, just snoozing away. Not a care in the world. When she’s awake she’s still timid and easily spooked and provoked into fits of barking. We’re working on that though. She’s showing improvement. She stays on her perch while we’re up. Except for the times we take her out, which is about every 1 1/2 to 2 hrs for about 20-30 mins. We don’t leave her alone for more than a few mins at a time. We’re starting to work on leaving her a little longer at a time. But if we’re gone more than 15-20 mins we get a doggy-sitter. I’m blessed and have 2. One of them is her Grandma, my mom. She sits up and whines for her when she walks in the door. Of course Grandma is also the treat lady. Doesn’t hurt that my mom is the “Pied Piper of Children and animals”. They just love her. Back to Lexie Loo. We got her on Jan 13th and in Feb we got 9″ of snow. It was so funny to watch her hop through the snow. My fiance built a dog house for Grunt-Grunt, which she sniffed a few times but never used it. Lexie Loo sniffed it a lot so we made it taller so she’d fit in and she started checking it out actually laying in front of it. We cut two strips off her artificial grass patch and laid them inside the house. She now lays inside it now! SO COOL! I’m hopeful she’ll heal further, but even if she doesn’t she’s living the best life I can give her. -
Dana, what a great story. I’ve read it twice already! You are very kind people to care so well and so much for these babies.🤗 It’s easy to post some photos of Lexie Loo Who. Just click the camera icon on the lower left of the comment box and upload from your device. We’d love to see her, and Grunt-Grunt’s house . That’s quite a story behind the name. I’m going to post about my foster kitten and will share the backstory of what I’m naming him. Thank you Dana, for sharing with us. Please continue to do so, and we want to see pictures ๐ {{BIG HUGS}} Toni
