It’s been a while since I have been here, but I always read the newsletter you send. Yesterday my beloved Bubbles passed away. After 17 years of being together, I am lost. She never acted sick or like she was in pain. She was always running from one end of the house to another, jumping up the air and turning around. I always said she acted more like a kitten than a17 year cat. She loved to eat…pickles, onions, tomatoes plus her regular cat food. My cats have never tried to steal food from me but if something fell in the floor Bubbles would have it eaten before it hit. It will take a while before I get used to her not being here. She was always waiting for me when I opened the door and would look at me lovingly when I kissed her bye on the way out. I am deeply heartbroken.

  Glenda, it’s so hard to read this because I said goodbye to my girl in February (she was almost 18) and there is such an emptiness after so many wonderful times together. It’s a shame our pets are only “on loan” to us but in your head you know she lived a full life – in you heart there is never enough time together. Do you have other cats with you now? If so, I hope they are helping you, and you are helping them through their grief, too. Bubbles was fortunate to be healthy and not suffering. And you are fortunate to have such a special love. It hurts from a place deep within, and it takes time for the happy memories to supersede the pain of parting, but you will find smiles before tears. It’s cute that she liked vegetables – my dad always said “we like vegetables, why wouldn’t they?”. It’s heartbreaking to come home and not have her there to greet you. – my girl was always there and gave me loving when I came in. That’s a hard blow and I am just so sorry you are going through this. But, we are here for you and want to hear from you soon and often to let us know how you are coming along. (I had a minor surgery this week and couldn’t respond to you sooner, but will now when you next write). Know I am thinking of you. Toni

  Yes, I have 3 more cats, Kissinger, Thomas and Tubby. Kissinger is 14, Thomas 11 and Tubby is 9. Kissinger and Bubbles were very close, and he still acts like he is looking for her, they have been a major comfort to me. Thomas has taken up door duty, he is always waiting when I open the door now and we are trying to adjust, it is extremely hard to do after so many years. I have said that after they are gone, I don’t want any more but can’t imagine life without a cat, it would be very lonely with a fur baby. Just after losing so many, I just don’t know if I can or want to go through this loss anymore. It is a shame that we only have so long with them, but at the same time I worry what would happen to them should something happen to me. I have always loved all animals but especially cats, I have always had a cat in my life and the oldest one was a solid white cat named Lucky she lived to be 21 years old and at one time I had as many as 15 so I have gone through a lot of hurt, but it is something you never get used too. So sorry for your loss and I hope your surgery was a success. and you have recovered. Please take care of yourself and stay safe.   Glenda, are you feeling a bit better? How is Kissinger doing now? You don’t have to anticipate the future of your “cat life” right now. I certainly understand not wanting to go through the terrible pain of loss, and at some point as we age, we have to decide if it’s fair to a pet for us to bring them into our homes. You’ll see how you feel when the time comes, which I hope is a long time from now. Let us know how you all are doing. Here’s a {{HUG}} for you all. Toni

  Thanks so much for your kind words and the Hug, sure can use both. Sorry it’s been so long since I responded. I am adjusting to Bubbles not being here as is Kissinger. He never leaves my side and if Thomas should lay down next to me Kissinger crawls on top of him, so he can be touching me. Tubby isn’t close to anyone, she is very independent and prefers to stay to herself, though she loves to be snuggled, it’s when she wants to. I have been feeding a neighbor’s cat since they quit feeding it, it will not let me touch it and it runs until I have gotten back inside. Well, the other day I went out for the morning feeding and to my surprise, there was 3 kittens. I was excited and upset at the same time. I picked up one of them and it bit me, they have razor sharp little teeth so now I know I have 3 more mouths to feed, until I can find them a good home. They are adorable and I can remember a time when I would have said they had found their furever home but not now. I live in a small town, and we have one rescue, and they are full and not accepting anymore cats so that is not an option. Hopefully I will be able to post this without using any words deemed inappropriate this time. Wish me luck in finding the new babies a home and I will keep you posted.   2. Shelters everywhere are overly full now and it’s just a desperate situation, so if you can keep the kittens and mother for awhile, you are an angel. To find more shelters, go the link below and enter your area, use the drop-down menu and click Animal Rescues & Shelters, or other pertinent areas. Maybe you can find a place to help. And some pet stores will let you present the kittens for adoption. Here’s the link:

  3. I understand how you feel about Bubbles, having said goodbye to my beloved on Feb. 24th. But, thank goodness you have the others, and they you -what a difference it makes to have them in your world. I was taking care of Boots, a 1 1/2 year old (scroll through the posts and you can see some of his fun photos), and he went back to his lady this week. I cried for five nights and my home is empty. But, I am hoping he is happy and healthy, and am grateful for the healing he brought me. So Glenda, let yourself feel your grief for Bubbles, and treasure the time you have with your other faithful friends. And thank you for your update. Our community is here for us to share our happy, and sad times, and it means everything to hear from you. By the way, would you be interested in a video group visit once a month or so, to share stories and support? Let us know. I’m thinking of you all, with warm wishes. Toni
