Hi Toni, thank you for your kindness. I am still having difficulty dealing with losing my Romeo. It will be 5 months on the 6th. I am still just so very heartbroken and I’m just having a slow go of it. I am better some days, but, then I have days where I cry a great deal. I know there is nothing I can do to rush through this process. But, that’s okay, because I don’t want to ever forget Romeo and grieving keeps him alive somehow.

Showing compassion to others comes naturally to me. I’ve always been that way, even though in the beginning of this sad journey of mine I didn’t have the capacity to feel for anyone but myself. So, the fact that I am able to show compassion to others once again must mean I’ve made some progress in dealing with my own grief. It is so heartbreaking to read every day just how many people are losing their fur babies. 💔
Thank you for being here for all of us.

I was the nanny to the litter of Frenchton puppies that a friend’s dog had. There were 10 puppies, 5 boys and 5 girls. All of them including momma Tulip were healthy and active. As they started walking it became clear that there was something wrong with Nutmeg’s left hind leg as it seemed to not stay in the hip joint. At 6 weeks we learned that Nutmeg was born with out a left hip socket. I decided that I was taking her and she was going to have the best life she could have. At 9 months old she had an FHO surgery and was spayed. The doctor who did the procedure said that he felt that she just didn’t have enough room to grow due to the size of the litter. It never even slowed her down. She ran and wrestled with her siblings and always climbed to the top of the puppy pile. She was 2 1/2 years old when she fell while playing on the bed. Within hours she couldn’t move her rear legs, refused food and water and was clearly suffering from severe pain. I took her to the Emergency and Specilty Hospital where they got her comfortable. She had critically damaged her spinal cord. The doctor said that she would never recover and would be in constant pain.
I only had her for a short time but I know that I gave her more love and the best possible life she could have had. I sure do miss my little Angel monster.

LaRonda, grief has no timetable and it can be years, or never, until you open your home and heart to another. It may be sooner though. We are not “replacing” our beloved, we’re sharing a loving lfe with another who needs and deserves a good life. Perhaps one day you will be ready for that. Do you think Harry would be happy for you both? You might start a “Joy” list of all the wonderful times you and Harry shared for 14 years – it’s a way to remember how much you added to each others lives. Please come to our group June 15th and you will hear from others who understand and will support you. The link is under “Events” on the right side of this page. {{BIG HUGS}}. Toni

Thank you all for your kind words, I will never recover from his loss, each day gets harder without him, he was my strength on my weak days and my sunshine on my dark days, I have MS and he kept me going everyday, I knew he would never make it without me as I have found out, I’m barely making it without him, it’s been a little over 7 months since he passed,

Yuvonne, behind every little memorial candle that gets lit is a story with a sad end. I am sorry you find yourself here but also glad that you reached out for help: there are people here willing to listen and help you mourn Milo. Talking about him is hard and sad but it also shows your love and appreciation and over time it will unburden your heavy heart. Tell us about Milo and make him known to us if you can. Best wishes to you!

Lovetta, what a beautiful cat Mojo is! Did she have green eyes? How are you doing? I hope you have people around you who understand your grief and are able to listen. And there is a whole community of people here who can relate and are willing to help you through this. What did you like most about Mojo? What is your favorite memory of her? If you cannot talk about that yet I understand. But some day you will be able to remember her with love and without tears. I am sending good wishes!

Elisabeth, I am sorry you lost Nicka! It is never long enough, is it? I would like to hear more about her and about your life with her. No matter how they leave us, because of illness or old age or an accident, it is heartbreak every time. Please tell us about her and keep her alive this way. It is hard to make the transition from grieving their death to feeling them inside of us and being able to talk about them without tears, remembering their whimsies and habits. I wish you the best!

I hope you are finding some comfort with the memorial items. If you’d like to create a lasting memorial, you are welcome to post one in our Memorial area. And please join us June 15th at our group support meeting – it’s a kind group of sympathetic, understanding pet lovers. How long were you and Bella together? Mara, how fortunate you and Sallt were to spend such a loving, long time together. In our heads we know our pets are only on loan to us, but in our hearts we ache when we say goodbye. It’s good you are honoring Sally with best memories of her. It helps take the sting away, a bit, and I hope helps you find joy with her memories. I am glad to have you in our community, although sad for the reason, and if you would find comfort in sharing your own sympathy and understanding with others here, that would be very kind of you. Perhaps you will come to our online group meeting June 15th and talk about Sally with us. Please keep us posted about how you are doing. {HUGS} Toni

I know that she is in a better place without pain and without suffering, but my heart misses her too much and I know that she will always be in my best memories of her.
