Oh Suzanne, how heartbreaking. You have purrrfectly expressed how difficult it is to assess what is best for our beloved babies. My vet says “better too early than too late”, but it is often so hard for us to know exactky how they are doing. You are a very kind, caring mom to open your home and heart to so many, and take such good care of them. I’m glad you’re going to the vet with Kalina and will let them guide you in the best path for her, even though it is so painful for you. That is the most loving, selfless act of a pet parent. It takes a minute to fall in love for a lifetime, and it hurts in a way nothing else can to say goodbye. We are here for, and with you, Suzanne. When you are up to it, please let us know how you are all doing. I will be thinking of you with hope, and sympathy. {{HUGS}} Toni

            Good morning,
This is my dear sweet 13 year old toothless Kalina, whom I adopted May 4, of this year, in memory of my Oliver, who unexpectedly passed on March 29, 2025. I also rescued this sweet petite little senior as a companion, for Oliver’s 12 year old bonded brother Sebastian, so he wouldn’t be lonely and terrorized by his 3/4 year old brothers. Based on the brief history I received from The foster mom of Kalina, she had a rough life. She was found abandoned on a freezing cold February night of this past year weighing less than 5 lbs and her sister who was found with her passed due to cancer. I knew adopting a senior cat was a risk but I chose to do so anyway. Since adopting her I’ve learned that she has irritable bowel disease, kidney disease and possibly cancer. Over the last couple of weeks, Kalina has been loosing interest in food but continued to drink like a fish, I would refill The water bowl regularly. Over this past weekend, she’s basically showing…

Wow Jen, what a lovely story. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It WAS meant to be – bringing you all together at just the right moment. Aren’t you kind to open your heart and home to Wally❤️And how fortunate to share ten wonderful years. I hope you can bring forth happy memories in your darkest moments, and find a smile before tears in recalling those times. Your pain is real. Your grief is a part of your ongoing love for Wally. With time, I hope your love, and the many joys you shared, outweigh the pain of parting. Jen, please join us on Zoom Thursday July 17th at 7PM EST. We are a kind, understanding group who are here to support you. You are welcome to share more stories and memories of Wally here anytime for as long as you like. Here is a {{BIG HUG}} for you. Toni

When Wally walked I to my life, I have NO DOUBT it was divine intervention, and he was literally SENT to me.

I was in my bank one day opening a new account, when Wally and his previous owner came walking in the door. He instantly caught my eye, because, not only was he adorable, but I had three others, of the same breed who had all passed on.

Wally, being the people loving dog he was, saw me looking at him and smiling, and he instantly wanted to come meet me to say hello. When he and his owner were seated close by, also waiting to open an account, his owner took his leash off and he ran to me as though we knew each other. I picked him up, and he excitedly gave me kisses and I gave him lots of pets and cuddles. Noticing our instant bond, his owner told me that things weren’t working out for her in the U.S., and she was likely going to need to move back to Europe where she was from. She asked me if I would consider adopting him. He was 3 1/2 at the time and lived to be 13 years and 3 months. I almost had 10 years with him, and it was literally the best impulsive decision I ever made, and the best gift I have ever received from anyone, much less his a total stranger.

The grief I feel over losing him is literally with me 24/7. 💔

Get ready for fireworks 😨If your babies are sensitive to the sounds and smells of fireworks – and they can hear and smell from displays far away – here are some tips to help ease the trauma:
Find a quiet place to hang out. An inside basement room, perhaps. Play soothing music a little more loudly to offset the “bangs”. Speak in a soft, soothing manner. Have favorite toys and treats at hand. Stay calm yourself – our pets pick up our moods and emotions.
If you have tips to make pets more comfortable, please share them here👍
