Good news! Thank you for sharing with us Suzanne. It sounds as if Kaylanee is on the mend with your loving care. -

My apologies for not updating everyone sooner regarding Kaylanee. I’ve had a lot going on with work, the cats I’m fostering, my car and trying to find a back up sitter for my other two cats as I’m leaving August 21 for NH for 9 days. So Kaylanee’s vet appointment went reasonably well. She saw one of the newer recently graduated vet school vets, so I was glad about that because sometimes they are more open minded and aware of the latest options, not that all the vets at my vet aren’t but while I like her regular vet a lot Dr. Stack is a little old school sometimes. Kaylanee is now on 3 different meds, a 2x daily nausea med, prednisone and 50 mg of gabapentin, the later is supposed to be given 2x per day but she doesn’t seem to be in pain so I’m giving her that 1x per day. Dr. Stefan thought maybe due to the nausea she might be experiencing pain too. Evidently cerenia is more of an anti vomit med vs., nausea, which it helps with also but not as well as the new med she’s on. Since the vet visit and being on the meds for about 6 days now, she seems to be doing much better. I keep offering her the prescription wet and dry biome. Sometimes she’ll eat it sometimes she won’t, so I’m giving her whatever she’ll eat, so she won’t loose anymore weight. It’s interesting that she’s been turning her nose up at the biome wet food a lot but will usually eat a table spoon – 1/8 of a cup of the dry biome. She gobbles down the Purina pro plan hairball wet and seems content to eat the Purina sensitive skin and stomach dry. I went with the later vs., royal Canon ID digestive care, which she has eaten too because insurance won’t cover it because they’ll say it’s pre-existing, related to her IBS and I’m still working to pay down my care credit card from
Vet bills it’s looking better but there is still a way to go. It is was rather comical the first day I gave her all the meds. It was obvious the prednisone pre existing side effect of increased hunger, was affecting her, as she was “whining” and looking to me for food, that evening. While she’s been known to start going in circles when she knows I’m getting her food she’s not a vocal cat at all for the most part. The challenge is getting her to take the daily meds. I’ve tried putting them in a pill pocket with treats, not happening .. she eats treats and leaves the pill pocket with pills behind. So I’ve been burritoing her in a towel and shoving them down her throat , which is causing me to have some broken skin on my finger but the important thing is she’s getting the meds in her and she’s back to eating regularly again. I’ve started giving her treats before and after the medication so she’ll associate it with something positive. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I look forward to seeing everyone at the September meetings. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. The first photo is of her playing with a catnip pillow someone made for the cats. That’s the first time I’ve seen her play in the 6 months I’ve had her. She found the toy on her own on the floor. The second photo is one of her favorite places to hang out at the vet, behind the computer or on the keyboard. She also likes sitting on the scale there.

What did you find out at the vet today, Suzanne? How is Kaylanee doing?

I understand about the food – the calories and nutrients are most important and the prescription & “targeted” foods are often not as appealing. If she’ll eat anything, let her!
We will be waiting to hear from you tomorrow. Good wishes coming your way💕 -

Thank you for your prayers Toni and Berni,
I have an appointment for tomorrow 8/12, ironically her 6 month gotcha day, she ate some kibble last night but refused to eat both the prescription wet and dry food this morning. Instead of giving her more nausea meds, as she hasn’t thrown up since Sunday, I decided to try non prescription canned food. She ate a whole can of the Purina pro plan chicken, so maybe she’s just sick of eating the biome. I did leave her dry biome food out hoping she’d eat that while I’m at work. We’ll see when I get home late to night. It’s not like she has to have the prescription food, it just makes life easier for both of us because of her IBS. However for me the important thing is getting her to eat at this point. She’s barely 6 lbs and can’t afford to loose weight. I’ll keep everyone updated and let you know how vet appointment goes tomorrow, it’s at 3:30 ET. -

Hi Friends 😻🐶
I hope you and your pets are “weathering” this summer in good health and fine spirits.
I see people walking their dogs on hot pavement and want to ask them to walk on their bare feet to show them how uncomfortable it must be for their doggies. Instead I ask if the dog would like to walk on the grass. I suppose it’s not my business but I feel that animal welfare is everyone’s concern.
I was in Canada recently and not replying to your posts, which I will do. Please join our online group meeting Thursday Auguat 20th at 7PM Eastern. We need to catch up👍
Be well, look after your faithful friends, and stay cool – Autumn is just around the corner. With wags and purrs, Toni -

Hi everyone,
I hope all is well with each of you. Belated Birthday wishes to you Toni. I hope and pray it was a blessed day and my apologies for missing your actual birthday.
Please pray for my sweet little Kaylanee. She’s been vomiting and eating limited if any food of late. She’s eating treats that’s about it. I have a tentative appointment for her this Wednesday at 3:30 pm. But I’m thinking I’ll have to call tomorrow to get an emergency appointment. I was hoping to get an emergency appointment today but I had a newer receptionist. I think if I’d gotten one that had been there longer I probably could have gotten in today. I could take her to the ER but the expense and the wait will be endless as she’d be triage as a potential lesser emergency. It always seems when I’m leaving for vacation that one of them has to get sick. Just praying it’s nothing serious. I’m
It sure i can handle loosing another fur baby so soon. -

All 3 of my girls that I lost with in 7 1/2 months of each other came up in my FB memories today. Spirit 5/23/22, Black cat sitting behind me, Autumn Ranger, 7/18/22, and Saraya 1/ 9/23, who died of a broken heart after loosing her 2 bonded sisters. July 25, is also the 1 year heavenly birthday of my dear sweet toothless senior Kalina. I only had her for less than 3 months but she left an indelible mark on my heart and befriended and helped Sebastian to become less timid and more interactive with his human, by her sweet gentle loving manner. The last two pictures are of Kalina and of Sebastian saying good bye to Kalina. How I miss my girls and Sebastian and the many other fur babies I’ve lost over the years. Sometimes I wish I could turn back the hands of time so I could have more tike to spend with them but at the save time I don’t think I’d want to repeat the pain of saying goodbye to them again. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you grieving the loss of a beloved pet. -

I feel your pain Maureen. I find sometimes I’m grieving more now than when I had to say good bye to my many fur babies. Sending you hugs and praying that you may feel God’s loving healing embrace. -

Yes, Romeo will always be a part of your heart and memories, and sometimes, when we allow ourselves to think back to the times that we shared, good and bad, the sadness and pain come back. I hope you also have smiles when you think of the many fun, funny and loving times you and Romeo enjoyed. Please keep sharing your feelings with us Maureen. I am sending you more {{BIG HUGS}}. Toni -

Hi Toni, I am doing okay. Of course, some days are still hard, but because of therapy, support groups and wonderful advice from so many people, I am moving along. I still miss my Romeo terribly and he certainly left a scar on my heart that I will always feel. He was my everything!
Thank you so much for reaching out. -

The July Group Meeting will not be held this month but we will be here for you to share your stories, feelings, concerns and joys. We are ALWAYS here in our Community to listen and support you.
Please be weather wary for your pets. Extra hydration and ample shade are required in the heat, and quiet, safe places should be provided during storms. Enjoy your July and we will meet you August 20th for our group meeting. Toni - Load More
