Yesterday was Takoda’s three year gotcha day. He also turned five on his unofficial birthday in late May. My sweet boy was rescued off the streets of Syracuse by one of the many fosters who volunteer with the CNY Cat Coalition. (C. C. ). I’d just gotten back from a 6 Hour drive from New Hampshire where I gone for a four-day weekend to visit my family and started scrolling on Facebook instead of preparing for bed as I was exhausted and had work in the morning. As I scrolled on Facebook, a poster of cats posted by the CNY CC shut up on my feed I have never seen a poster of cats from them since and this was the first one I’ve ever seen also, normally they only post pictures of individual cats that are available for adoption. As I looked at the pictures of each cat, a black cat named Curtis caught my eye I knew nothing about him not even his age. I just knew I had to have him because he reminded me of my Saraya, that I had to say goodbye to on January 9, 2023 who despite being in good health had given up and died of a broken heart after she lost her two bonded sisters within less than two months of each other. Despite being tired I immediately filled out the online adoption application. I was informed his foster would contact me shortly with more information. That was on June 4 of 2023, on 6/8/23, I went to meet Takoda and welcome him to his new forever home. I adopted him in memory of my Saraya, as I tell each cat, as I say goodbye to them that I’ll adopt another cat in their memory that needs a loving forever home as they once did. He’s a sweet, loving boy who likes to sleep next to my head in bed, enjoys sitting and cuddling with me and looking out the window out of my three cats that I presently have he’s my talker and quite loud and boisterous when he has something to say. Takoda was a birthday gift to myself and one of the best presence ever.
Regarding Takoda’s health and need for an ultrasound, I requested the ultrasound referral as his white and red blood cell count was off, and I am aware that irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), often will lead to cancer and after losing four cats in 10 months, I’m not ready to lose another one especially once so young for hopefully many years. I’ve also started him on B12 injections with the vets approval and my request. He’s had three of six weekly injections before it’s just once a month and I’ve already noticed soft reasonably formed poop 💩 which hopefully is due to the biome prescription food and the B12 injections. He will be going for his second attempt at an ultrasound June 16. He wasn’t sedated enough the first onr and the “specialty” hospital didn’t have a sedation doctor there to administer more sedative. My vet also told me to give two gabapentin versus one which hopefully will sedate him enough so that we don’t need additional sedation because the sedation exam is $180 plus additional cost of sedation injection on top of the 500+ for the ultrasound. In theory the Takoda’s insurance should cover this since he had no official IBS diagnosis in his medical records but even so it’s still a lot of money to have to spend. Overall Takoda is acting like his usual lovable self going about his normal everyday routine. I just wanted the ultrasound as a precautionary measure so if they discover cancer, if it’s caught early he can receive treatment for it and live a good quality life for many more years.
