I just have some sad news that I found out earlier in the week, my cat, Cassie had a lump on the outside of her left leg. She has to have surgery to do a biopsy to see what it is. She is only 3 1/2 years old, it’s not fair.

    • Chin up, Ann. Cassie is fortunate to hzve you caring for and about her, and taking her in for an examination so promptly. Let’s hope it is a benign tumor. If not, at her young age she would probably do beautifully with a surgery or treatments. Let us know when you get the biopsy results and we’ll go from there. When is her biopsy scheduled? Come to our group meeting Thursday – you will find supportive people who may have some insights about Cassie’s lump. We’re here for you, Ann. {{BIG HUGS }} to you both❤️Toni

Today I’d the 2nd anniversary of Kairi’s passing. I still miss her so much. They say time heals the broken heart, it hasn’t yet.
        • Ann, I am so sorry. Anniversaries are hard. The memories of fun, loving times, coupled with the deep pain of loss. She was so beautiful and looks like my girl who died February 24th. I am so sorry for your pain.
          • Thank you

I just got this in the mail the other day. It makes me cry but I remember how much Kairi meant to me. I still miss her. Sorry if you can’t read it. It’s a tribute to her.
            • Oh Ann, I got choked up reading this and am so very sorry. I know what you mean – if you see a spot where she slept or sunned, glance down the pet food aisle, think of calling out to her….just so many things bring tears along, with sweet memories. If you would like to post a lasting tribute to Kairi, we just launched our “Memorials” tab. Please keep us updated on how you are doing, Ann. We’re thinking of you.

I was thinking about Kairi, I think about her all the time. This time I remembered that when she used to get annoyed with something, she would put her ears back and a d just stair at you. Her green eyes would be bright, she looked like Toothless from “How to Train Hour Dragon”, it was so funny. I cried a little and remembered how much I miss her.

              • Bless your heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
                • Ann, even though it still hurts, aren’t you glad you and Kairi shared something your roommate and Teaser apparently didn’t? I think it’s lovely that you are smiling before the tears ,and the joys of your time with Kairi will live with you forever. “Just a cat” is something you won’t hear in our community – we know our pets are love in little bodies, be they furry, finny, feathered or scaled. I am glad to hear your update and look forward to more of them. We’re all thinking of you, Ann.

It has been a week since the 1 year anniversary since I lost Kairi. Some friends expressed how sorry they were, others she was just a cat. Even my roommate doesn’t understand what Kairi meant to me. Five years ago when her cat, Teaser had cancer and was not doing well, we took her to the Vet. She told her Teaser was not going to get better and my roommate didn’t want to deal with the mess that Teaser was leaving on the floor, between throwing up and pooping. She told the Vet it was time then, we left because she didn’t want to be there. I kissed Teaser on the head. She died alone except for the Vet. Teaser was 13. It broke my heart to leave her there alone. This is a picture of Teaser.

Kairi had Mass cell tumors. One tumor was removed in Dec 2019 and everything was fine till the beginning of February when the tumors started coming up through her skin on her back. The vet gave her meds to shrink them, she didn’t like it. By the beggining of March I knew she wasn’t going to get better, I stopped giving her the pain med because it was such an ordeal to give it to her, because she fought it. I called the vet and told her that Kairi knew it was time. I held her through the whole ordeal. I kissed her and told her that later she would not be in pain anymore and she would have the sun in her face, which she loved to do. I could feel my heart breaking, she meant the world to me, I loved her.
                    • Ann, how are you feeling today? We all have to honor the quality of life our babies have and make the hard decision to medicate or not, depending on the side affects and how well it’s helping. My 19 year old, Squirt, was ready to say goodbye, I took her to a hospital, and the doctor said she just needed antibiotics. I did the same thing you did with Kairi – tried giving it to her but she got to the point she didn’t want me near her because she didn’t want the medicine and was really ready to call it a day. One week later, she was bleeding from every orifice and I took her to her own vet, and like you, held her. I still resent that the hospital doctor made Squirt endure that final week. I shouldn’t have listened to them. Letting them go peacefully is the kindest, most loving gesture we can make. I still miss her long fur on my clothes. But I sure wouldn’t trade in the many years we shared. You keep us posted on how you are doing.

Cassie never knew Kairi. I got her on May 28th of last year, she was born on the 23rd of March. Somehow I thought it might be an omen. When I took Cassie in for her first checkup I told the vet that if I had to wait till the pain of losing Kairi went away, I would never get another cat. Sometimes the hurt is hard to bare, but I decided to get Cassie and give her a forever home and all the love I have. Kairi will always be with me. I still miss her. 😔
                                • When Carmel passed o ended up getting a kitten for Sweetness because Sweetness was lonely and looking for Carmel. It Sweetness a lot. Sweetness was sick for 3 days in December and I thought I was going to lose her too but with my quick thinking and nursed her back to health and she was better by her 6 birthday it she was healthy it was all the stress from moving and getting her a kitten. I don’t know if it’s true or not hat cats can see spirits and ghost and she has been pawing at the ceiling but nothing is there . Sweetness wouldn’t eat for a few days after Carmel’s passing. I ate but not much and it’s I’m having a hard time still. She well always be in your heart

Today is the 1 year anniversary that I had to say goodbye to my precious Kairi. The pain of losing her is still with me. She was my best friend and companion and I loved Herbert much. I miss her terribly.
Sometimes I will call Cassie, Kairi, because they are both black. There is an Egyptian saying that if you say my name I will be immortal. Kairi will be with me always in my heart. 😔💔
                                  • I’m sorry to hear about your passing of your cat. I know it’s hard to lose a pet . I recently lost a cat named Carmel to cancer. It’s been almost a year she’s been gone . My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know it’s heart breaking losing a pet .
                                      • Ack…I am crying reading these because my old, black cat is failing and I anticipate her passing (maybe she can hang in) and I am so sorry for all of our goodbyes…But intellectually, aren’t we so enriched to have so much love in our lives? There are not many sources of total, committed, sweet, kind accepting love out there, and we are so fortunate to have had it in ours. And we gave the same to them – total love and care. We are walking through this together and I am grateful for our friends in this community. We are creating a separate Memorials area in our community and will be sharing more about that in the near future. I think it will be a special place and way to keep our beloved faithful friends with us. Hugs, Toni

It brings up so many memories, thoughts, and most of all, feelings. Is Cassie also missing Kairi? I hope you girls lent each other strength today, as you always do, I suspect. And please know that I, and many others, are thinking of you with heartfelt, sincere sympathy, and hope for happy memories. As you know, my old girl is black and looks like Kairi, and I deeply share your pain. I hope this little HUG gives you and Cassie a tiny bit of comfort. Toni

She is 11months old. When she was a baby, she was a cuddled, but now not so much. We have 2other cats that belong to my roommate. One is a Ginger tabby and the other is a Maine Coon, they were both adopted from a shelter. Cassie chased them around all day. Cassie will sleep on my bed for all of 10 min and jumps down. Kairi would sleep on my bed all the time.
                                                      • Cassie sounds like she has a lot of energy! And she should, being a youngster :-). It’s great the three of them can play and chase together. I had three cats once and I figure that’s a good combination so they have one another. It was tough driving with them though because one would be around the back of my neck, one in the lap, and one roaming around the car :-)…… Keep us posted and share more fun photos, please.

When the time was right I adopted another black kitten to give her a furever home. Her name is Cassandra, I call her Cassie. I named her after the Good Witch in the series. She is bigger than Kairi and totally different personality.
                                                        • Oh my goodness, Ann, she is a black beauty – like mine :-)…Yep, we all have our personalities, don’t we? What’s Cassie like? How old is she now? I love this picture!
