I recently had to help a dear friend put her dog to sleep. It brought back all those awful memories of when I had to do the same for my Jack. It was and is the most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make. We both cried.

Layla was a Shetland Sheepdog. Never left my side. She died when she was 12. Jack was a Yorkshire Terrier, Silky Terrier mix. He looked mostly yorkie. He died a hair over a year ago this month. I swear I still hear him and feel him on my bed. I still haven’t been able to get another dog yet. Someday. Jack will let me know.
      • Hi again, Kate. It’s good to hear from you, and thank you for telling us more about Layla and Jack. I think it’s nice that Jack’s presence is still with you. Hopefully it comforts you. We all know another love doesn’t “replace” Jack or Layla, it’s an addition to, and expansion of the loves in your life, and only when the doors to your home and heart are ready to open will you welcome that. When it does happen, we hope you’ll share your joy with us, too. Keep us updated, let us know how you are doing, and stay in touch. Toni

I was lucky enough that when I had to put Jack down, the vet gave me a ceramic image of his footprint. I’ll treasure it always.
