@shadowcat I am sorry for your losses of Midnite and Zeke, Helen. Please, tell us about them and feel welcome to share pictures. How are you doing?
-
@toni thank you! They have been gone quite a while but I still cry when I see pictures of them. Zeke I got from a rescue and he was a gift for my daughter. He developed a crystallized blockage in his bladder and wasnt able to relieve himself, I didnt have the money to get him the operation he needed so I had to put him down. Midnite,he was my baby he was a stray kitten that lived in our complex I took that really hard, I buried him in my garden on Halloween nite in pouring down rain crying my eyes out. My daughter actually made me a necklace with his picture on it. I wear it everyday. They are together over the rainbow Bridge so that brings me happiness.

Annette, I am sorry you and Smokey had to part. You can see he had a big personality and I understand how empty your home and heart feel. It hasn’t been very long for you and I hope, with time, you find smiles before tears. Was Smokey your only pet, or do you have others for company now?-
My autistic son has a chiweenie and he is a sweetheart but he is my sons support animal. I have been looking for another furbaby for myself but the adoption fees are way too much for me. I miss smokey so bad!! I have been told that getting another furbaby will help heal my heart so im hoping. Smokey was the first animal ever that stole my heart and showed me the love i would have never known if not for smokey. He was amazing

Annette, here are some ideas I hope help you. Go to the “Find Services” tab at the top of our page and there is a drop-down menu which lists animal resources, including rescues and shelters. Enter your zip code to find those in your area. They may have ways to help you adopt. Almost every breed has a “Rescue” organization and may also be able to help you. Spring brings puppies and kittens and shelters may give you a break for adopting a more mature pet. Can you post a notice in your area that you are looking to adopt? Let’s see if others in our community have ideas to help you. Keep us posted on your progress. Good luck, Annette, I think a perfect pal will turn up. Toni

@laylaface Hi Kate, and welcome to our caring community. Please tell us about Layla and Jack. What kind of pets were they? How long were you together? How are you doing?
-
Layla was a Shetland Sheepdog. Never left my side. She died when she was 12. Jack was a Yorkshire Terrier, Silky Terrier mix. He looked mostly yorkie. He died a hair over a year ago this month. I swear I still hear him and feel him on my bed. I still haven’t been able to get another dog yet. Someday. Jack will let me know.
-
Hi again, Kate. It’s good to hear from you, and thank you for telling us more about Layla and Jack. I think it’s nice that Jack’s presence is still with you. Hopefully it comforts you. We all know another love doesn’t “replace” Jack or Layla, it’s an addition to, and expansion of the loves in your life, and only when the doors to your home and heart are ready to open will you welcome that. When it does happen, we hope you’ll share your joy with us, too. Keep us updated, let us know how you are doing, and stay in touch. Toni

Oh no. That is just awful. Keep crying, Elaine – it’s okay, and very understandable. It’s exhausting, isn’t it? Is there something you can do to take your attention for a bit each day? -

I know, Cathy. There is more room in the pantry where their food is no longer, their favorite blankets aren’t on the furniture …. there is an emptiness without and within. I hope, with time, your heart fills with sweet memories and you find comfort. Let us know how you are coming along. If it would make you feel better, perhaps you could share your kindness and understanding with others in out community. Hugs, Toni -

Wow, Lisa, what a great story. You really express each of their personalities. I can just see Shadow swiping Lucy’s nose – cats definitely know how to explain the hierarchy of the house to a dog! You have certainly had your share of loss, but you keep your home and heart open to more loves. That is so kind of you. Do you now have 4 cats? -

Glenda, I am right there with you…They do seem to find us, and we, them. I like being a “Cat Lady”, and any kind of animal person :-)..
The pain of loss is deep, and I know some people who won’t have another pet because they don’t want to suffer that pain again, yet many others of us welcome the chance to love, and be loved by, another (and another) furry friend. We created Faithful Friends to be a safe place to seek or lend support, and if you like, please extend your kind words to others in our community who need some support during such a tough time. I look forward to hearing more of your stories. Thank you for being a part of us. Toni -

Julie, Any words of condolence may seem not enough, but I hope you feel the incredible sadness I share with you tonight. Your decision was undoubtedly made from a depth of love, and is the most unselfish, kind act we share with our beloved pets. When you are up to it, please tell us about Minnie, your lives together, and what we can do to help you heal. I will have you on my mind and in my heart….Hugs, Toni -
