@kdcampbell57 Hi Kimberly. I am sorry for your loss of Cha. Will you tell us about Cha? What type of pet was Cha? (That means tea in Chinese – how did Cha get that name?) Are you doing okay, Kimberly?

Cathy, dear, kind, thoughtful Cathy….I cannot thank you enough for your expansive, informative and heartfelt comments. Whether it’s been 2 1/2 years or 20 years, we think of, and miss our dear friends and loves. Having new friends and loves does not replace nor diminish the lives we shared. I/we really appreciate the specific, helpful information you are sharing about idiopathic epilepsy in dogs. One of the meaningful features of our caring community is to share what we learn, and you have done a wonderful job putting us all on notice for this terrible affliction.
I am truly sorry for Barron and his siblings. What a shame to deliberately inbreed. Sissy and Oscar, like Barron, are fortunate to have you.
I am going to take this opportunity to remind our community members about Waggle.org – a non-profit that helps with vet bills. Listen to our Paw’d Cast with their founder to learn more (click the microphone icon on the upper right of this page). Please Cathy, keep us updated about Sissy and Oscar, and how you are doing. We have a grief counselor available if you think he can help with your PTSD (click the link on this page). At least you know you gave and did everything you could for Barron’s benefit. You are a wonderful pet parent, Cathy, and I am very happy to meet you. Yes, please share pictures with us. Hugs, Toni -

Barron was my 3 year old pit bull, he was such a clown. If I had company over, he would sit in front of me and bark when we were trying to talk because he was jealous. He didn’t want anyone to have attention but him. He was such a beautiful boy. A friend of mine owned his sister, and my friend called me and told me to keep an eye on Barron because his dog developed epilepsy and was have cluster seizures. I made an appointment at the vet to have Barron checked out because I needed to know that he was ok. The night before his check up he had his first seizure. It was horrible and so violent. When he came out of it he was blind, so confused and mad! I got him calmed down and walked him around the yard and his sight came back and he was doing ok. The vet diagnosed him with idiopathic epilepsy the next morning, he was put on phenobarbital and he did well for about 3 weeks, then he started having cluster seizures and I couldn’t get them under control. He went into a coma while rus…

I meant to say I wasn’t really wanting another dog.

Oh Deb, I am so, so sorry. When you feel up to it, will you share some insights about symptoms of kidney disease (if there are any)? My 17 year old has compromised kidney functions we are treating with special food, saline infusions and acupuncture. Her numbers have improved over the past three months but are not normal. She is walking a bit unsteadily and I wonder if that is symptomatic? And Deb, please know we are here to share your pain, and help support you in any ways we can. Do let us know how you are, and if you have stories and pictures of Ben we can share, that would be lovely. I am sending you a big HUG. Toni -

“Catupuncture” today went very well. She didn’t mind it and the doctor is encouraging about its efficacy. We’ll go again next week, then two weeks later and hope to see improved movement, and kidney function. I’ll keep you posted. I would appreciate hearing from more people who have been through it with their pets. Elizabeth is very supportive of it (Thank you, Elizabeth!), and any other experiences others of you have had will be helpful. Thanks everyone, Toni

Oh Tony, of course you miss Muffin, probably always will after 14 years together. My Squirt was with me for 19 years (at the time about half my life) and we did a lot of living together. I still think of our times and memories we made. With time, the joys overcome and replace the sadness and pains. There is no way to speed through grief, and no need to. I am glad we get to share your journey, and see pictures of treasured moments. Thank you for letting us remember and cherish Muffin with you. -

Valerie, How wonderful for you to open your home and heart to another in need. On this page, click the “Find Services” tab, enter your zip code and in the drop-down menu look for Shelters or Rescues.
If you want to share your location with our community, maybe someone here can match you up in your area. I am excited to hear what happens, who you meet and to hear all about it. -

We do know, Lisa. New loves are not replacements – they are brand new loves to share, unique on their own. I can’t wait to meet your new baby. My 17 year old cat is all black (well, a few grey hairs are popping up) with beautiful green eyes. She is so pretty, and even sweeter and smarter than she is beautiful. We had her first acupuncture today. Anyway, didn’t mean to ramble…. Please share pictures with us, and let us know how you are coming along. I recommend you listen to my interview with Reagan who wrote the healing book “Griffin’s Heart”. We discuss the places pets have in our hearts and how some are closer to us than others. Just click the microphone icon on the upper right side of this page. Let me know what you think. Hugs and Purrs…. -

Cody, didn’t you tell us Benny had a cancerous spot removed from a paw a few months ago? Maybe that’s why he doesn’t like to be touched there. Are his legs thin, like a greyhound’s? Greyhounds are aware of the fragility of their legs and stiffen them when picked up, so maybe Benny is sensitive to having his legs touched. You can use our “Find Services” tab to locate a groomer in your area. I would tell them about your experience and his legs. Let us know what happens, please. Also, any new pictures to share with us? -

Only $27.99. Free shipping if you order from our website. Please know, and I think you do, I’m not trying to promote it, but I do think it provides a useful process to help heal. It is a very private place to be very honest about your feelings, including anger or guilt, and is heartfully written. Let me know if you get one and how it helps you. My cat is 17 and still with us, but I have found going through the book in anticipation of her passing (she has a number of health challenges) is helping me prepare for our eventual goodbye. Here is another HUG for you. -

Jill, we JUST published my Paw’d Cast with Reagan – “Griffin’s Heart” – if you want to listen to that. I think her book may be a helpful tool for you. Toni-
How much is it?
