    Lori, you ask how you ‘handle’ the pain. You ARE handling the pain, but not really …IT handles you in that the pain is not a feeling, but a state of being. I think it’s a cellular part of us, just as Max was such a deep part of you. But, the love is also a part of you, as are the memories of how you gave comfort to poor little scared Max, and he gave you such important lessons. What a powerful give and take you shared together. How fortunate was Max, and all of you for sharing the time you did. Every living thing will die – leaves that decorate and feed trees are like our beloved pets – they feed us love, happiness and make us better, but they have to “jump off” at some point, leaving behind the tree of support and strength we shared with them. As a friend says “they are only on loan to us”. It is more than painful to part, in a way that is not comparable, but Lori, what a wonderful gift you and Max shared, don’t you think? I think you and your family are magnificent – you have loved and lost so much, and yet you give more, love more, and of course when you open yourselves up, you can ‘lose’ more. But Lori, would you have it any other way? I am so, so very sorry for your parting from Max. And I am so happy for the love you gave, and got. You have my deepest, most sincere sympathy and appreciation. Please, stay with us and share your feelings, and know we are here with understanding and nothing but kind support. It’s not much, but please accept my {HUG}. Toni

      @cara69 Hi Cara. I am sorry for your loss of Leah. Please tell us about her, and share some pictures if you like. How are you doing? Okay, I hope?

      “Accept” you? We are just like you – we have all felt the deep pain of parting, and understand how little things (for me, seeing the pet food aisle) can trigger big emotions. And, while time does help, there is no set timetable for grieving. So yes, Terri we sincerely welcome you and hope you will be an active contributor with updates about how you are doing, and if you read posts that touch you, please extend your own sympathies to others. we love to see photos and hear stories about all of your pets so feel free to share with us. I’ll be thinking of you.

            Oh Lori, I have tears for you all. Yes, the pain is deep within, at a cellular level unlike any others. What a terrible time of year, too – these darn holidays make everything so much more intense. I am, we all are, so very sad and sorry. When you are up to it, please tell us abut Max and your lives together: how you met, what you enjoyed together, things Max did….any and all that you would like to share. It may not be much, but I am sending you my heartfelt {HUGS}. Toni

                    Yes, I see the Beagle now that you tell us. Oh dear….that damned cancer. Of course you wouldn’t let her suffer, Mykel. That’s the absolutely kindest, most loving and generous gift you can share with her – the gift of relief and release. Always at the expense of your own feelings and desires. You are a very kind friend to Patches. Of course you are lost – it’s not been long and it takes time to find smiles before tears with your memories. We are truly here to help you share your thoughts and feelings in a supportive and understanding way. Please reach out to us as often as you like, and share more pictures, too. Perhaps this {HUG} helps a little bit…

                      Mykel, is this Patches? My dawg, what a gorgeous doggy. Such sweet pictures – please tell us about Patches. A certain breed or mix? Are you doing okay, Mykel? How long has it been?
                        • I had her for 14 and a half years. She ended up with Lymphoma cancer. The lymph nodes in her neck was cutting off her airway. I couldn’t stand seeing her suffer. This happened last month. I am just lost without her. She was a Beagle mix

                            • She was a stray when I first got her. She was emaciated. You could count her ribs and her hip bones stuck out. When I had her at the vet for the last time, she weighed 50.8 pounds. Treats kept her happy

                              I am so sorry, Kava. What a special look Pepie had – and a reader, too! I bet every time you tried to sit with a book, she got on it – right? I have to bring two books…the one I want to read, and one for my girl to lay on. Thank you for the sweet picture that says so much about Pepie. Please tell us more about your lives together: how you met, things Pepie did, etc. And Kava, we’re here for you to share how you are feeling. Sending you {HUGS}

                                  Oh Randy, how terribly sad and painful that must have been – both of them this summer. Was there and accident, or were they unwell? How long did they live with you – together the whole time? They don’t look like siblings, but you can never tell. What were their names? We’d really like to know them better, and I extend my deepest sympathies to you and your wife. I think the holidays stir up strong and deep emotions, and I hope you find comfort in the memories of the love and joys you shared. Please tell us more and let us know how you are doing. Toni
                                    • Hi Toni. Doing OK here. Getting back to you about the loss of our 2 shepherds. We found out our silver & black shepherd “Ranger” was riddled w/cancer & suffering only 1 week b4 going on a trip so our vet recommended putting him to sleep. We were very sad, but still had our white shepherd “Axel”. 6 days later we took Axel to a local boarding kennel before we went away & 2 days later the lady who runs the kennel said he became ill & lethargic. A few hours later she called back to tell us Axel had passed away. We cut our trip short & came home late that night. We picked Axel up in the morning & brought him home to bury him in our yard next to Ranger. We don’t know if he died of a natural cause like heart failure (he was over 10 yrs old) or if it was the trauma of losing his buddy. We’ll never know for sure why it happened but we hope that they both enjoyed a loving home here w/us.
                                        • Thank you for sharing your touching story with us, Randy. My sister’s dog had cancer and she made the loving, generous choice to let him go peacefully, as you did with Ranger. You were thinking only of what was best for him, at the expense of your own feelings. We’ll never know what happened to Axel. It sounds as if something was wrong with him, and yes, maybe whatever it was, was compounded by his grief….we don’t know. But I am sure they DID enjoy a wonderful life full of love and joy with you. Please always feel welcome to share with us, and if you open your hearts and home to more loves, we’d love to hear about them, and see photos. And Randy, if you read posts that move you, please share your sympathies and comfort with others – it means so much. I am glad you are in our caring community. Toni

                                        Hi Linda. By “help getting him fixed & shots”, are you looking for a facility in your area? Do you need financial assistance? To locate facilities: Go to our Find Services tab, enter your zip code or city/state, and use the drop-down menu to find a clinic or shelter. For financial assistance: go to http://www.waggle.org and submit your request. If neither of these address your situation, please tell us how else we might help. And good for you and the new kitty! We want to hear all about him and see pictures ๐Ÿ™‚
