I’m glad you are visiting with a friend. My friends’ cat was sitting in his lap. My friend stepped to the refrigerator and came right back. His beloved kitty had died on the chair in the minute my friend was away. The cat was 12. In our heads we know our pets are only ‘on loan’ to us, but our hearts want them forever. And they do stay with us forever, in our hearts. I slept on the couch with a stuffed kitty under my chin when my BG died. Not being in that big bed may help you for awhile, too. Oh my, how shocking that is. I found sleeping with a stuffed animal helped me. Can you get out of the house for awhile each day? Keep yourself busy, maybe try napping during the day? Talk to us here, and please join our group Auguat 17th. {{HUGS}} Toni -

Oh Brenda, I am so very sorry. The pain is deep. And real. What was his name? Fifteen years is a good life but a million years with them wouldn’t be long enough. Were you together for all of the fifteen years? I hope you can think of the many years of love you shared and the joys you brought each other. The emptiness of the house and the deafening quiet are so hard to bear. Can you get out of the house for awhile, talk to family and friends? Oh, Patricia, you will always miss Puddles, but hopefully your memories of the many years of fun and love bring you joy. My Squirt was with me 19 years, she died 20 years ago, and I still think of her. I feel so grateful for our time together. Puddles was my beloved cat I rescued her when she was just a tiny ball of black fluff 4 weeks old She was with me for 18 years I miss her so much

Peggy, when did you say goodbye to LacyLu? It hurts in a way nothing else does and it can feel like it will never end. It takes time and support to crawl through the pain. Do you have people around you to share with? We’re here to listen and support you. I found holding and sleeping with a stuffed animal helped me. How did you meet LacyLu? LacyLu was my 15 year old jack russel beagle mix. I miss her so much. I’ll never get over losing her

Ten days after BG died, a friend needed a home for one year old Boots. I was absolutely not ready to bring in a new pet. But if I can keep an animal out of a shelter, I will. So I did welcome Boots and he was such an active, engaging, curious and sweet boy, he helped me heal from my loss. He made me realize that BG lived her life, and I was lucky to share some of it with her, but new life needs love, too. We can never “replace” a pet, but we can open our homes and hearts to new life and love. Boots is back with his person and I miss (and worry about) him, but I credit him with helping me heal. Do NOT let anyone pressure you into adopting if you’re not ready, but in my case, having a new joy was just what I needed. -

Losing a mother is unlike any loss. Especially if you are close. I lost my mum to ALS 15 years ago. That was tough. I am so sorry you couldn’t be with your mom but it’s ture – your mother is always with you, literally in your DNA. Photographic and artistic images of our beloveds DO help us feel close to them. The urns you make with images are an excellent example. I have a sweatshirt with my BG on it, and a canvas of her beautiful face. Plus, sleeping with a stuffed cat helped me get through the tremendous pain of saying goodbye. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and support, Sigrid. {{HUGS}} Toni -

Awwww, how sweet. I am sure Rocky missed Chance. You are welcome to light as many candles as you like. And you can create a lasting memorial, too. You can see my beloved BG and Walter there. I miss them both. There’s a picture of Beauty Girl (aka Deanna) getting ‘catupuncture. -
