Elaina posted an update 5 years, 2 months ago
Hello, I am new to this group. Thank you for letting me join. I lost my sweet Holly last year. I had to put her down, kidney failure. I had her for 13 years.

Elaina, we welcome you to our caring community of pets lovers, most of whom have experienced the deep pain of parting from our beloved pet. It is so kind of our members to extend their own sympathy and understanding – it helps us to know we’re not alone, someone really understands, and cares. Thank you Shannon, for reaching out. Elaina, was Holly a cat by any chance? My 17 year old has compromised kidneys (among other problems) and I think it is a common ailment in cats. Perhaps dogs too? Would you like to share some of your photographic memories with us? Mourning takes as much time as it takes- there is no time frame, but hopefully your smiles will come before tears and your sweet, fun memories will bring you comfort, and much joy for the life you shared. Stay with us, Elaina, and let us know how your are dong.-
Yep. Holly was a cat. She had the most beautiful eyes. I remember the day after I put her down, it was such a painful day for me. I couldn’t believe she was just gone, just like that. I couldn’t walk around my apartment. I just couldn’t. I just laid in bed all day crying for her. Weeks to follow. It was such an emptiness, a silence. The silence was venue loud because it was a reminder she was no longer here with me. I have tons of pics of her. She was my heart.

How are you coming along, Elaina? Are you feeling any better? Are Sassy and Shyla helping cheer you?

Thank you Shannon. Yeah this was a tough one for me. It’s always so tough no matter what. I ‘inherited’ her 13 years ago from my cousin. She was such a cuddle bug. For 13 years she slept on my pillow at night. She was a sweetheart. Prior to her, I had Cutie. She was with me for 16 years. She passed on the way to putting her down. Then I had my Holly. These are all cats. I miss Holly very much. I have her ashes on my mantle. But now I have two sisters. Over a year old. I got them from a hoarding situation. Sassy and Shyla are their names.

Elaina, Ouch. I hurt with you. Mine sleeps with her backside under my chin (not great for breathing – she’s trying to ‘snufficat’ me) and is 17 and not in peak health. You are touching me because I know one night she won’t be tucked under my chin…. Thinking about it hurts terribly, and when it happens you all can help lift me out of my puddle on the floor. So I am sad and a bit teary when one of our fellow community is hurting, too. But boy, the great joy and fun and love we got to share is precious. It wouldn’t hurt so much if we didn’t love so much. You wrote a lovely phrase – “the silence was venue loud” – that is so descriptive and conveys such a message. Thank you for that. Sassy and Shyla are lucky to be with you and I know they will bring you love, too. I’m thinking of you, Elaina. Oh, when you are up to it, may we see photos, please?
