We just lost our Beloved Smokey on Monday March 1st 2021. I’m so lost without him. Just seeing his happy face every day is killing me

I know your pain but I like to look at my pups picture and remember all the good and focus on no more pain. I’m truly sorry mine was march 4th.

It hasn’t been at all long since your partings, and I don’t think there is a timeline for finding smiles before tears, but as much as it hurts to say goodbye, I do think it matters how old or ill they were. There is always sadness, but often there is a sense of relief and release for them if they were suffering or failing. Jamie, what happened with your Smokey?

It happened so suddenly losing Smokey. He was outside at 10am playing football with my grandsons and 30 minutes later he was in my bedroom for unable to move. The emergency vet said he had a very aggressive stage of cancer and either a tumor burst or his spleen burst. I still can’t hardly go in my bedroom. We have his ashes and paw prints but seeing those just crushes me. My 2 year old keeps looking for him and the 4 year old thinks every time I leave I’m gonna bring his ‘Moke Moke’ home

Oh Jamie, that is shocking. I understand how hard walking into that room is. Maybe you can avoid it for awhile? If Smokey had cancer and was playing that morning, it sounds as if he wasn’t in much pain, which he no doubt would have been as the cancer progressed, do you think? So for his sake, maybe it was a kindness that he was happy and then passed so quickly. And maybe it was a kindness to you too, not having to watch him suffer. What do you think?
