Hi Toni.I cherished George very much.It is hard to have senior pets and not knowing when there will be a time when they don’t wake up.Because George was fading, rapidly, I intended on having her put to sleep, but she went her way,on her terms.I do believe that kiss on my cheek, the Sunday before she had her accident, washer way of telling me goodbye, and she loved me.She has never kissed me on my face where I actually felt her tongue.I believe too,it was her way of thanking me for all of the years we had together, and I am forever honored to be George’s mom. -

I am slowly accepting my mama cat being gone.
My heart breaks for Oscar because him and mama cat were a bonded pair.
He walks around lost, looking for her.Mama cat was his world. But I told my 10 year old granddaughter to give Oscar lots of love.
She was talking to Oscar and told him Mama George was not suffering anymore, and he was listening to her.
But everyday is getting better, because my mama cat isn’t suffering anymore.I miss her.-
Dianne, I think of you every day. I truly do, My old girl wasn’t eating today, and I thought of you and George because she went through times like that, too. But, my girl ate tonight :-)…. You and your stories about George, Oscar and the paths you are walking are very meaningful, in case you don’t already know that. That’s why we are here, and here for you, and everyone who loves, and has loved, and will love, our most cherished pets. Each day I anticipate the moment when I’ll find my beloved girl gone – it’s grueling. But, she wakes up and lets me love her, and I remind myself to cherish these times with her and not get ahead of things….. oops, sorry, didn’t mean to make it about ‘my pet’…Dianne, you are doing well, and you did well for her. Take comfort in that. As we’ve discussed – she had her design, as do we all, don’t you think?

Hi Toni.
I have accepted George’s accident,in baby steps.Every day is a new day that I have accepted as she is gone.I now believe, mama cat was looking for a way of going on her own terms, and maybe her getting struck by a vehicle was her way of going “home”.Does that make sense?I miss her.
As for Oscar,he is so lost without her. They had six kittens together many years ago.And even when she was not her best,he would groom her every day.He walks the house looking for her.He waits by my front door waiting for me to carry her in,and when I am not carrying her,he looks like he lost his best friend.
He now chortles, which I believe he calls for her,but she doesn’t answer. My heart breaks for him.But I give Oscar a lot of love, and the last thing I want is him passing away from a broken heart. But now he has his younger brother Irish to keep him from total loneliness.
I am doing better.I have to. -

I’m not sure if my dog is just getting old, but Greenies (the dental treats) no longer sit well with his stomach. Chewy offered a refund which was nice. They are a good company to order from. Anyone else notice similar issues?

I have two cats. The reason I believe Irish is staying inside is to comfort Oscar. He loved George too.
I am beginning to accept the fact that George wanted to go out, because she was ready to go on her terms. And maybe she did.I am trying my best to cope.-
You should still be very emotional – it’s only been a week. You are wrestling with so many thoughts and feelings, and the only way to go is straight through, which you are doing . That’s why we’re here for and with you – to let you share and get it all out. Hang in there, Dianne.

It has been eight days since mama has been gone.
I really hope no pet parent has to undergo what I have been through.Getting a knock at my door, and someone holding Mama’s collar saying she got hit and killed…AND…having to go pick up her lifeless body and the bury her.I feel guilty about it.She would be 15 next April, and had dementia and was visually impaired.I hope she felt no pain.
I am trying so hard to get over her accident, but I can’t.I wake up looking for her.I have been telling her good night, and that I am so sorry she got hit.
I am having a hard time dealing with it.
When I had to put my senior Sheltie to sleep due to cancer,it was extremely hard on me because I adopted her when she was over a year and a half old.But with George,I raised her from a seven week old kitten. It was very hard on me when I had to put Bessie my Sheltie to sleep. She was my travelling companion,my sleeping companion, but most of all my best friend.
So see,I have a lot to deal with.-
Dianne, of course you are still reeling. It’s only been a very short time since George is gone. And in such a shocking way. I still think it was her destiny – that she was compelled to go out. Guilt comes naturally after an experience like yours, but I think you are the only one seeing it that way. She was ailing and is now at peace. I shared the story of my dear little kitten, Nicki, who never went out and one night threw herself out the door and got hit and killed. I know how guilty I felt, but truly think they have a design of their own. It’s good to have you share your feelings with us. Please let us know, as often as you like, how you are doing. Share some more pictures, and tell us about Oscar, Princess and Irish. How many cats do you have? It’s wonderful of you to share with them and I hope they are bringing you some comfort. HUGS…Toni

Hi everyone, I am sorry for all of your losses. I know how everyone feels. 11 years ago, I lost my mom and nine months after her death, I had to put my Maltese to sleep. My mom had four adult cats when she passed away, and I had two adult cats. I took her 4 cats in Plus my two. One of the cats, I found a good family for, because after my mom passed away she refused to use the cat litter. I did not want to put her to sleep because she was still in good health. The vet believes she was feeling the loss of my mom. But I was working two jobs, and when I come home and found the house a mess because she refused to use the litter, it was just too much on me. I took care of the other cats for quite a few years then in 2016, the first of the oldest, had several strokes so I had him put to sleep. He was not live in a very good quality life. He could hardly walk or eat. My mom had a Russian blue cat, she was beautiful. She had four kittens, but they were only part Russian blue. She ended up with the renal failure so I had to put her to sleep the following year 2017. Then in 2018, I lost one of my cats. I had two cats left, and we were leading a pretty good life. I also retired in 2017, but kept on working for another year. I decided to take a year off from work, and in December 2019, I lost one of my mothers cats. Then in January 20 20, I lost my cat. I ended up adopting a black Labrador retriever named Syrus, before either one of them passed away, and they all got along. Then I adopted another cat, And his name is Hex. Syrus and Hex have become great friends. I went back to work this year, because of inflation. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving, and I will forward pictures from Thanksgiving next week.-
Geri, when you love a lot, you lose a lot, too. Sometimes it seems to come in bunches. In a three year period I lost my father, husband, 19 year old cat, and my mother. It was like living in a cycle of grief. Now I am on edge about my 18 year old cat, but remind myself to enjoy our time together because no amount of my worrying will keep time from moving and life progressing. Just as we need to allow ourselves to enjoy, we need to grieve so we can heal, everyone in their own way and their own time. Thank you for sharing your stories, and sharing your sympathy and understanding with others. Toni

Where do I begin? I am having a tough time dealing with my mama cat’s death.I have a range of mixed emotions going on.
But,if I had mama put to sleep,it may have been easier for me to deal with.. I don’t know.
I feel lost without her.Last year my mom died on April 4th.Then 12 days later my 14& 1/2 year old Sheltie passed away from cancer.
So everything I love, seems to be taken from me.
I don’t know -

Today is just a blah day.I woke up looking for mama.Oscar and Princess really miss her.He walks around meowing for her, looking in places she would hide.Princess notices her best friend is not here. They are mourning with me.I cannot get the image of mama out of my mind from having to pick up her body, kissing her face and telling her I am sorry that I didn’t look for her.I feel horrible because nobody knew how or when she got out.
-
Yes, this is so hard, Dianne. Even if you had looked for her, she was probably already gone. Oscar and Princess, like you, will be missing her. Seeing places she used to go will bring her to mind, and your sadness and pain will take time to heal. One day, you will find yourself smiling with her memory, but not just now. Share lots of love and sympathy with Oscar and Princess, and let them love you back. I am so sorry.

Thinking of you and yours, Dianne

I feel so lost without her.I have had George since she was a kitten.I am so used to her making biscuits on me at night, and her sharing my pillow with me.Even though she was not at her best,Sunday she came up and kissed my cheek while I was laying in bed.She has never done that before.
A piece of my heart went with her.
She was buried under my window by living room.I place three prickly pear cactuses on top with a solar light.I placed the solar light there so her spirit can find her way back to visit me.
My house isn’t the same anymore.
I do believe she wanted out of the house,so she could go home on her terms.
Even though she was coming down with memory issues and whatever,I still loved her to the moon and back. And she gave me unconditional love in return.I couldn’t have asked for such a wonderful cat.
I just hope she doesn’t hate me for not looking for her sooner. -
