He also turned five on his unofficial birthday in late May. My sweet boy was rescued off the streets of Syracuse by one of the many fosters who volunteer with the CNY Cat Coalition. (C. C. ). I’d just gotten back from a 6 Hour drive from New Hampshire where I gone for a four-day weekend to visit my family and started scrolling on Facebook instead of preparing for bed as I was exhausted and had work in the morning. As I scrolled on Facebook, a poster of cats posted by the CNY CC shut up on my feed I have never seen a poster of cats from them since and this was the first one I’ve ever seen also, normally they only post pictures of individual cats that are available for adoption. As I looked at the pictures of each cat, a black cat named Curtis caught my eye I knew nothing about him not even his age. I just knew I had to have him because he reminded me of my Saraya, that I had to say goodbye to on January 9, 2023 who despite being in good health had given up and died of a broken heart after she lost her two bonded sisters within less than two months of each other. Despite being tired I immediately filled out the online adoption application. I was informed his foster would contact me shortly with more information. That was on June 4 of 2023, on 6/8/23, I went to meet Takoda and welcome him to his new forever home. I adopted him in memory of my Saraya, as I tell each cat, as I say goodbye to them that I’ll adopt another cat in their memory that needs a loving forever home as they once did. He’s a sweet, loving boy who likes to sleep next to my head in bed, enjoys sitting and cuddling with me and looking out the window out of my three cats that I presently have he’s my talker and quite loud and boisterous when he has something to say. Takoda was a birthday gift to myself and one of the best presence ever.

    In reply to - Berni posted an update Annie update: my sweet gentle soul is gone. I took her for the endoscopy on Tuesday thinking we may finally get to the bottom of her diarrhea problem. Two hours after I dropped her off at the vet, my phone rang. “There’s been a complication.” They had just started the procedure and hadn’t reached the area to get tissue samples when the probe punctured her bowel. The tissue was thin and more deteriorated than expected. Prognosis for repair was very poor. Only one other option. I requested they take the samples they hadn’t gotten to so I could know what caused the issue. They opened her and found multiple other tears and deterioration along the organs which might have ruptured and gone septic at some point. I brought her home so that Andy could see and sniff her before I took her for cremation. On Monday night she made multiple trips to the litter box which had become normal behavior for her and on the last trip she left a large puddle of very foul smelling diarrhea on the bathroom floor, it unmistakably smelled of blood. I can only imagine that her bowel must have been so badly damaged for this to have gone so wrong.     💔Suzanne, your heartfelt, honest sharing is why we are here – to listen with compassion and hopefully help you as you move through these painful times.
    Regarding your recurring images of the needle: What did you do in the moments afterwards? Did you pet, embrace, kiss your babies as you whispered goodbye? Clip fur? Were you relieved for them being out of pain and at peace? Can you take your memory of the needle to the next step and go past the immediate moment to the time that followed? It may help to think of it as a brief moment in the total of your times together. I hope othesr in our community will offer you some helpful ideas.
    Your commitment to adopt seniors is wonderful🙌, especially as we enter Spring and “kitten season” when older animals are often bypassed. I enjoyed five fabulous years with the 13 year old I adopted, and only five months with my 15 year old. Two of the five week olds I fostered died. There really is no telling how long we have, but we do know you are giving these deserving babies, of any age, a loving home for as long as you are together. That is magnificent of you.

      My heart is shattered into a million pieces. I unexpectedly had to say good bye to my Sebastian today. . This is the 4th cat I’ve lost in less than a year, all of them sudden and 3 unexpected. Sebastian appeared “normal” at his semi annual wellness exam, on Thursday, then Thursday night Friday, he just stopped eating and drinking and by Sunday was vomiting white foamy liquid to often to count. Got an emergency appointment with my vet at 9:00 this morning and blood work showed Kidney failure, suspected pancreatic cancer and urinalysis showed UTI, very unusual in male cats , among other issues. Doing further tests I was told really wasn’t t going to improve his chances, so I made the heart wrenching but compassionate and right choice to let him go, so he wouldn’t suffer anymore. I’m very thankful, that I had all day Saturday with him, I usually have to dog sit, as we were able to have lots of lap time and cuddle time together. By Sunday he wasn’t interested in being with me very much. Since Sebastian had lost his bonded brother Oliver, last March, he started to become a less timid more self confident cat, who when his younger fur siblings were not around, loved to sit in my lap. I will miss him coming to look for me when I was home when I was home. It was his way of saying why aren’t you sitting? I want to sit on your lap. The photos of Sebastian were taken by me before I let him go. Sebastian, my little lap buddy, the house will be so quiet with out you. You will be dearly missed but now you are reunited with your bonded brother, Oliver, your sweet toothless, gentle, Kalina, who, while she was only with us a short time, I know the two of you developed a special bound. While you and Freyja, much to my chagrin, never really got along, she’ll be there to welcome you too, to Rainbow Bridge! Run free my sweet little Sebastian. Sebastian is the orange/ginger kitty , Kalina is the tiger cat and Freyja, “queen” of the castle is the tuxedo cat.

      G.M. everyone. Hope you & your pets are all staying warm & cozy. Sorry to those who have lost cherished pets lately. I still get sad thinking of the pets I\’ve lost over the years. Doing OK on my end. It\’s been bitter cold & snowy in N.E. Pa these past few weeks. 🥶 Spring!! Are you out there?!? My 2 boys are doing well, enjoying the snow, but only the Husky loves the cold. I\’m off today, home chilling w/my 2 boys. I got a pot of homemade soup simmering on the stove & my boys are napping as usual. Just getting ready for another work week.         Joanne, I have seen videos of cats that get on top of doors and it is always mind-boggling to me! My Mac and Roni sit outside my shower door, then go in when I exit leaving little wet paw marks everywhere😨
        My BG was 18 when she had two seizures, one in my lap, which was the day I took her in to give her release and relief. It hurts so deeply to come home and not have Mama Cat there, but it is so good for her that she is out of harms’ way and not sufferieng. I hope that you find peace knowing that she is okay now, and that you can smile with joy and gratitude with her memories. Sending you {{BIG HUGS}}. Toni

          Diane, I’m so sorry for your loss. I had a cat live to be 18. There is nothing more painful than losing a friend that you thought would be with you forever. I had another kitty. She was 16 when she passed. I was lonely. In time I got a little kitty that was thrown from a car. He is almost a year old. It was difficult to go through the baby stage….no became the only word I knew. . Well Frankie is a Siamese and very bullheaded.. he is getting older and learning his manners..I’ve always had girls…but a boy is a new experience…I think I’ve lost some hair. (Pulling it out) I have a cat that has the last word. Don’t feel bad, it takes time. ill always listen to you…take care.

            Christina, I want you to feel this hug..I am so sorry for you losing Rogue. There is nothing finer than the love of an animal, they never stay long enough.. I had a love affair with Mama Kitty, she was 18 when she passed. The next 6 months were ruff. My mom was 92 when she went to heaven…i had a stroke and Lulu was 16 when she passed. I was all alone. I did some looking on the internet and I found Lucy. The lady that rescued her loved her but locked her up in a little room. I rescued Lucy, she was two. I knew I would have many years with her. I didn’t have her a year. She passed away just when I started to know her..there I was again wanting to share my love with someone..months went by I refused to adopt another, it was tearing me apart…..well my friend called me to say, she just saw this kitty that was thrown from a car window and she was bringing him/her to me.. this was a Siamese with an attitude..but a kitten that needed to go to the vet…and needed love..today he has all his shots and is neutered. An indoor kitty. . His name is Frankie and he just turn 11 months…I found my companion…..life is funny at times..he makes me laugh and a good one to have a conversation with…he’s a little man now. Keep your chin up, you never know how life will turn out..leave your heart open…….. Brony

                      Pam, I am so sorry. I have said goodbye to three sweet babies in this past 1 1/2 years – two were mine and one was a friend’s whom I accompanied to the doctor. In each case, knowing it was in their best interest, I felt good letting them go comfortably. The minute I walked in my house, now that’s a different story. No one came to greet me, their things were harsh reminders that they were never going to use them again, and the house feels so empty and quiet. That is the hard part for me. The only thing I second guess is did we wait too long to say goodbye? That’s so difficult to know but I do know it was done out of love. Four weeks is not a long time, there is no timeline for grieving, but I hope you find some comfort sharing with us, and knowing you did what was best for Andy 💔.
