Christina, yes, please do share your stories, especially about your ferret rescues. That is so wonderful of you and I can’t wait to hear how our community may be able to help with that. Perhaps we can do a Paw’d Cast? Lilbear, being your first rescue, surely holds a special place with you and I am so sorry for your parting. And Christina, thank you for asking how I am doing – I don’t think anyone has asked me before. I am okay. I adopted a 13 year old black cat who needed to recover from a full mouth tooth extraction. I was supposed to foster her back to health (she was really sick, close to dying), and we fell in love and adopted each other. She’ll be 17 1/2 this month, has high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, failing kidneys and a progressive inflammatory disease. But she is ‘feline’ fine, not in pain or suffering, and I spend every moment she’s awake loving her. BUT … every day I fear I will find her dead, or worse – in pain. I live with the extreme joy having her in my life, and a sometimes tear-inspiring anticipation of her dying or suffering. That’s one of the reasons I started this community – to share with others the understanding and support when we are anticipating, preparing for or experiencing the death of our beloved pets. So thank you, Christina, for asking. And thank you for being a part of our furry family. Can’t wait to meet yours. Hugs. Toni -

Karin, how nice of you to share your kind words and caring with Melitta. You know how hard it is after Dodger passed. Don’t you love Smokey’s eyes and the way his ears flop forward – sort of like Dodger’s in your picture. Toni -

Oh Melitta, you must be grieving and hurting and I am so sorry. How long were you and Smokey together? How did you meet? Please tell us about your lives together. I love the picture in the hat! What breed/s was Smokey? We’re here to understand and support you. Sending a HUG….. -

Thomas sure was cute – those big eyes! How long has it been since you parted? Lori, I know you miss him – that’s part of loving so much. As a friends says, ‘they’re only on loan to us’. Do you have other pets, or think you will ever welcome another into your home and heart? I know what you mean about not being ‘mean’ – every vet and vet tech says my cat is the nicest they’ve ever met, you can do anything to her, etc. She is really kind, like your Thomas. I hope you are finding smiles before your tears. Hugs, Toni-
Thank you..oh my I have had so many cats in my life and unfortunately we had to find homes for my 5 cats cause we have had some bad luck and lost our home and could only bring 2 of them where we are at right now that was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do is pick and choose which 2 to bring with us. So Its been 3 months since then and I miss them so so much. Love my cats and everyone elses..😻
-
Oh Lori, that is a heartbreaking choice to make. The others are in good homes, I’m sure, and will be happy once they settle in. Do you ever hear from the adopters about them, or would that be to hard for you? You are a very kind person to be so loving and I am glad you are a part of our community of caring people. You must keep us updated and know we’re thinking of you.
-
No I don’t hear from them its really to hard. Thank you for your kind words.
-
Yes, I’m sure it is. But you know who is loving them now, don’t you? I sometimes wonder how difficult it is for pet parents who have to surrender to a shelter – they don’t know what happened to their furbabies (like mine) and that must be very hard.

Dodger was an enigmatic, very interesting guy, wasn’t he? So many expressions in his pictures… It hasn’t been very long since he crossed the rainbow bridge and I certainly understand how much you feel. Karyn, give yourself all the time you need to mourn and grieve, knowing that you shared such a full, long life together, and that he would want to thank you, and have you remember your times with smiles, joy and love. Do let us know how you are. HUGS -

Sue, Martha lost her Missy on August 5th, too. It hasn’t been very long for you to grieve. It’s good you have your other furry friends to keep you busy. Life on the road – how fun! Virginia is driving with her pets and asked for tips – perhaps you can suggest some. Scroll through the posts to find hers if you like. I hope you feel better each day. Please let us know how you are doing and share some photos of your pets on the road. Hugs…… -

Martha, it’s only been a few weeks since you and Missy parted. Of course you are feeling sad – you are mourning, and it takes as long as it takes to find smiles before tears. We’re thinking of you. Stay with us and let us know how you are. -

Mary, this is a beautiful image of you and Moana. She had blue eyes? Wow. How old would she be today? Special dates bring on strong memories and emotions so allow yourself to move through them. Let us know how you are doing. -

That’s a nice story, Lori. Thank you for sharing it. Our pets do know when we are unwell and I think are very healing. It’s easy to post photos – click the camera icon in the lower left of the ‘comment’ box on this page. Let me know if I can help. -

@ladpeaches Lori, Thomas is such a majestic, strong name – I love it. What kind of pet was Thomas? May we hear about him and see photos? How are you doing, Lori?

He was so loving and was my daughter was sick he always knew and laid with her every time. I have to figure out how to put his pic on here.

@cassiecat Hi Sue, and welcome to our caring community. We’d love to hear about your pets, and see pictures if you like. I hope you are doing okay – are you?

Hi Toni, I currently have 2 Aussie shepherds and 4 cats. We lost our orange kitty on Aug 5th due to cancer. It’s been hard we rescued him in 2007 and he has been our RVing buddy for 13 years. We travel with our camper and take our furbabies with us.

Oh dear Martha, I am sorry for both losses – your SIL and Missy. Now that you tell us she was a Maltese, I see it. How darling. I hope you allow yourself to grieve at your own pace, and please feel comfortable sharing your feelings with us. There are no timelines on healing. We’re thinking of you…….-
Thank you. Some days I think I am doing fairly well but other days I am a wreck.

I’m glad to hear Maxwell is adapting. I think animals understand and accept the naturalness of the end of life better than we do – but how can we know? Our pets are our babies, dependent on us for support in many ways, and we upon them for their love and friendship and overall cuteness, so when we part, it really leaves a hole not only in our hearts, but our everyday lives – do you think? Maria, are you finding smiles more often now when you think of Moulin? May I ask how he got his name? It’s very cool. And Thank You for being a caring part of our community. If you read some posts that move you to share your support, I hope you will – it’s why we are here š -

I am so sorry, Martha. What a sweet and pretty girl. I am sure you are hurting and hope you smile with her memories. How long were you and Missy together? What breed/s was she?-
Missy had been with me from 10 weeks until 10 1/2 years. She was a Maltese. She and het brother were born at my brother and SIL’s. My late SIL was her breeder. They were the lady litter to be born before my SIL passed.
