I have a sister with health issues that I’ve needed to spend time with and have had a few myself (nothing too serious). Eddie (the furry buddy I got from the gentleman in assisted living in August) and I are still working on adjustments, but we are doing very well together and I am so glad to have him. Hello Everybody: Meet my newest addition to my family, Eddie. Eddie is about 5 years old, a Jack-A-Bee (Jack Russell/Beagle Mix, it is thought), and about 25 pounds, who came to me via my niece, who is a realtor and was having lunch with a co-worker who told her she was getting ready to list a house for a gentleman who was in assisted living and while he was allowed to and did have Eddie with him, he didn\’t feel it was a good situation for him or for Eddie. My niece knew I had been \”looking\” for a new furbaby and here we are.

I am so sorry to hear this, Toni! I missed the June meeting, so didn’t know of Walter’s passing. It takes so long to get over losing a pet! I am still hurting from the loss of my darling Jasper on April 25, 2022 — and still can’t bring myself to open my heart to another one yet!

    One month ago I said goodbye to darling little Walter. I just walked in my house fully expecting him to greet me. It\'s hard to get used to, and it takes time to adjust. But I am very happy for the time we shared, and that he is not in pain or danger of his mass rupturing. It takes awhile to find balance and ultimately, more joy than sadness. Hang in there everyone. We\'re always here for you, not matter how long it\'s been. {{HUGS}} Toni

        Unhappy news about Walter. He has a mass where his small and large intestines meet, pancreas is enlarged, some lymph node changes, etc. Things are going to hell inside poor little Walter. I have decided to treat him until he exhibits discomfort, then give him a peaceful passing. At 15 years of age, surgery is not in his best interest, in my pet parenting opinion based on experiences. So here we are again - in my head, intellectually I can come to terms. In my heart I am devastated. The promise we make when we share our homes and hearts is to always do what we deem best for them, and that time is once again upon me. I can\'t tell you all how much it means to know you understand and will be thinking of darling Walter.

              I’m not going to be able to join the Zoom meeting on February 16. I’m going to the Dayton Art Institute for a special showing of “An American Story of Romantics and Modernists in the West,” to which I have been invited by a friend.                 You can always call him as “Wonderful Walter” each time you address him. And Yes, what a surprise for you to learn he is 5 years older than you thought. He is a lucky fella to have found you.

                  Knock me over with a feather! Walter is going to be 15 in June! We thought he was about ten years old. The vet gave me the chip number and I called the company (more about chips later) and found Walter was born June 2008. That helps me understand him better, and admittedly has changed my approach to interacting with him. I\'ve decided, in deference to his mature age, to keep calling him Walter. It is his name, after all. He is still sweet and slowly getting comfortable in his new home.But what a surprise to find out he is soon to be fifteen. I always encourage the adoption of older animals, especially in the spring when so many babies are in shelters and older animals are often overlooked. Thanks to the many of you who shared greetings about Walter in response to last week\'s email. That is so nice of you all and I hope you will share your thoughts and feelings with us here in our caring Community. I\'ll update about Walter and look forward to hearing from YOU with your updates. {{Toni & Walter}}

                  Thank you, Toni, for your words of love. Yes, I am grateful that Jasper didn’t suffer long, but it gave me little time to prepare for the loss of him. My 49 year old son died of COVID on December 19, 2021, and Jasper was so much comfort to me at that time, and before I had even begun to recover from the loss of my son, I lost my loving comfort fella. I am working on healing from both losses and am having a very hard time of it. I am trying to remember the good times, happy times, with my son and Jasper. My best friend gave me a plaque after my son’s death that says: “When I Needed A Hand, I Found Your Paw,” which was so fitting for the situation I was in at the time! Jasper’s paw was very much needed comfort and he seemed to know exactly when I needed it! Thank you again, for your loving sentiments.
